  1. I think GC is the better team and should win at home if they execute as they have been. Good thing its not in KY.

  3. It was Travis Wells grandfather. Travis Wells sure wasnt the quietest feller on the football field.
  4. I did not realize that. Thinking more about what they returned from a softball perspective.
  5. Cramping isnt always about a lack of conditioning. It generally has more to do with the kids hydration and some just arent disciplined enough to stay away from things like energy drinks that hurt their hydration.
  6. I think people didn’t realize how much Lebanon lost last year. They weren’t even a powerhouse in 1D either. I thought this could get ugly unless the rivalry side of things kept it close for a while.

  8. I agree as well. The "decision" was BS. Brandon dominated that bout.
  9. Yes he was in the film I have seen. His brother Brandon is more my age and played at ETSU and had a shot in minicamp with the Steelers I believe. He is on staff with Union again this year I think. Hes more nationally known for his MMA career and almost beating Jake Hager a couple of years ago.
  10. LW has a daughter who plays softball at TN Weslyan and his youngest is SR at Lee who is really good on the diamond as well.
  11. If you are referring to Hackney that kid has had a lot of unfortunate injuries in his HS career. Good family and hopefully he has a full healthy senior year.
  12. Rivalry game so it should be close for a while. I think Lebanon graduated a lot though and Honaker returns more, so I will go with Honaker to win by a couple of TDs.
  13. I think @chipinbogey HL is a rookie. Good learning opportunity and need more fresh blood.
  14. I didn’t think he was going to. He may have changed his mind though.
  15. If Holston can keep their QB healthy they will be tough offensively. Losing the Botts twins will hurt a lot physcially.
  16. Then came the two years Rye Cove was forced into D2 with an ADM of like 198 I think it was. I believe also in basketball one year in the old system Nelson County won 1A and was larger than both Gate City and GW who played in the D2 finals.
  17. I have a feeling Marion may surprise some people. Excellent coach, 1 D1 football player on the roster. They wont challenge for the district title but much better than previous seasons and not the team in the cellar.
  18. Tim is one of the best period. Allen Gregory does a good job also. I miss George Thwaites covering SWVA for the Kingsport Times News. He used to do a great job. I know he moved back up around Bluefield and maybe worked for the telegraph but I dont look for too many articles in that area. Kevin Mays led the charge at the Coalfield for years and then filled the gap at KTN until taking a job with WJHL I think last spring. Tanner Cook is pretty good young writer for the KTN who seems to cover SWVA now. It just seems like the owners are barely keeping that paper afloat, but Tanner is solid.
  19. I agree. Keep things in front of you in D forcing long drives and in HS hoping the offense's execution isnt as good in tight spaces, or the more plays they run the more likely they are to commit a turnover.
  20. Rye Cove and Hurley are also. Thomas Walker may be as well.
  21. Played our season opener at Hurley my sophomore year. We were leading 18-14 with 1:44 left in the 3rd. Hurley ran a 4-4 stack at the time. 3rd and inches and coached caller for a QB sneak. Just as I split the guards the 2 MLB hit me and everything went pitch black but 8 orange dots. Turned out the cotton candy machine or popcorn machine blew the the breaker to the entire light system. A spotlight started shining shortly after from a House way above the field behind the bleachers. Finished the game on Monday(Labor Day) at Honaker. Hurley went on to the Region D2 finals losing to PV. We missed the playoffs going 3-7 but had we won we would have went in D1 and Hurley would have missed the playoffs to Honaker I believe.
