  1. GW 7 Fort 7 Half Too call that a sloppy half for GW would be a gross understatement
  2. There's two schools of thought on this, and neither are wrong. First, there's yours....And I get it. Second....Why put yourself in a high-risk turnover situation? We virtually never go under center. I've seen many GW teams even line up in victory formation to take knees out of the pistol or gun. And what's the difference in doing that or going under center just to turn around and hand it to a running back who is lined up 7 yards deep? I mean, we aren't going to sneak it from the 3
  3. LMAO I know, man. It's all good. I just saw the name and couldn't help myself lol! I was dropping in to chit chat a little about the game anyway. It's just not often I get an introduction, ya know 🤣
  4. Hey now, there's only one GW Loyal here 😂 Seriously, I'm not upset with anything I saw tonight. We have some things to clean up, but I didn't expect to see the best version of this team in Week 1. We lost some 1v1 matchups, but Radford has kids that will win a lot of 1v1's. Defensively, we were in position pretty much all night to make plays, but didn't quite get it done. Credit to that goes to Radford. We didn't attack the perimeter as much as I would like, sure, but that's not a terrible thing against the Bobcats, who year in and out can match (and a lot of years, overmatch) our speed on the edge. All in all, both teams had drives start inside the others 30. Radford cashed....We got shut out on 4th and goal. Late TD aside, that was pretty much the swing. Very, very proud of the 99 yard TD drive we had in the 4th to cut it to 7 and the following 3 and out to give us a chance to tie or take the lead with all 3 timeouts left. It didn't work out, obviously, but the work it took to create that kind of opportunity against a team like the Bobcats is never a loss....it's a lesson. We'll be better if we find ourselves in that position again. In regards to the coaches, I never felt like they lost us a game last year, and I certainly don't feel like they did tonight. I don't always agree with things, but who does? I was in the stands in the 80's and I'll be in the stands until I just physically can't. A lot of those fans you are referring to will pop up for 2-4 years, only to never been seen again. I don't have to explain why lol! But I completely understand what you mean by that statement. I'm kinda wondering the same, my friend lol
  5. Appreciate your updates, my man. Late work day kept me from coming down. Good to hear it was a solid night for my guys. Iron sharpens iron. I'll be rooting for the Bears for the rest of the season, for certain. Good luck and have a great season!
  6. You'll get no argument from me here. What I saw tonight, I believe every word of this. He got a couple of releases against Galax that he could have ran back to Dickenson Co untouched A Mt. Airy fan sat next to me during the GW/MA segment, and we talked a great deal. He made his way back during the MA/RV session. When that TD connection was made, he muttered "Woah..." He later told me that when they heard about the RV passing game, they were very confident. They feel like their DB's are one of the strengths of their team. He raved about that throw and catch because "no one has done that to us in a long time....but that was REALLY awesome!"
  7. Thanks! I didn't catch that. Hopefully it's nothing major, and that's all we see from any of the 10 teams
  8. That hurdle was beautiful. One of the prettiest high school football plays I've seen in person in a while. I wasn't upset after our scrimmage against Mt. Airy. I knew we were well out-classed coming in, but Mt. Airy was even better than I had thought. Ridgeview's QB is that dude. I was very impressed with him. Beavers looks sharp too. The WR from Narrows looks like a special player as well. The best thing about the night is that there didn't appear to be any significant injuries and seeing those lights turn on later in the evening. Football is back!
  9. Well hell, let's hire PH's coach then lol! Seriously, I'm not out here calling for his head, and I'm not even one to even worry about who to replace him with until the day comes we part ways. Sure, there are coaches out there I'd love to see here over Harner, but they also currently have jobs, and it's silly to think people are lining up to come here. I was just commenting more in regards to the record being a bit of fool's gold, and that there is a little bit of validity (albeit, blown wildly out of proportion) to what some were saying. Harner does a fine job at winning the games he's supposed to win. But not even Nick Saban gets a pat on the back for beating Vanderbilt, either. (FYI I was completely unaware that PH's has put that kind of record up in that 2014. Would have never guessed! Impressive!)
  10. As I've said here before, it's not nearly as bad here as what posters on this forum and the other forum would want you to believe. That being said, there's also elements of truth in what they're saying. I understand critics will point to his record and ask "Why?" It's absolutely a valid question. But point me to one 1A West program not named Galax where he could compile that same record that he has here. You can't. Take what they say with a grain of salt, but keep in mind that it isn't all skittles and rainbows, either.
  11. I have no idea what went into all that. I’d be speculating otherwise. I’m merely speaking from myself and most GW’s fans perspectives. if we really did “duck” that game, I’d be thoroughly disappointed, but I have no way of knowing how that all went down. But that’s why I don’t get worked up over the running joke. Either people don’t really know or they’re right and we deserve it lol.
  12. There's no advantage to having two weeks for us to prepare for Galax when we basically play them twice a year lol! Outside of healing some bumps and bruises, that is, but as one GW poster mentioned, we need reps over rest. We needed them against Graham, we needed them against Bland, and we need them against Covington. Trust me....No one around here wanted any of those games cancelled.
  13. He's good people. Just let his emotions get to him and lost his mind.
  14. It was complete frustration that turned into a temper tantrum. I know in his heart he feels like he was defending the players, and I know a few folks over at The Fort that have been taking up for him last night into this morning on socials. I don't care what you believe is right or wrong, you absolutely cannot let those meltdowns happen, whether you're a coach, player, referee, or fan. Like I said, I laughed at the shit show...but not everyone did. And the situation was getting close to a tipping point. The police had to finally go to his truck (he was parked on the track) and tell him to get his ass outta there. I have to add that the kids from Fort were very classy, however, and there was a lot of hugs and pats on the back between players of both teams after the game. Regardless of record, they played hard to the end.
  15. Not him but I’ll answer. He went berserk after what he thought was a late ol hit out of bounds on the Fort sideline. Overheard the refs saying on the way out that he was obnoxiously screaming for calls after every play already. And you heard correctly. While walking across the field on his way out instead of around it, holding up game play. So mad at the refs, he flew the GW stands a double fisted fly over. I laughed lol! But I know the guy. However most don’t and it’s wasn’t a good look. Those folks at the Fort love him for it, tho.
  16. OMG 🤣🤣 That's sad, but hilarious lol! In thinking about this, though, there aren't a ton of us GW posters on here (I can't think of but three of us off the top of my head). I've never easily gotten the impression that anyone was a coach. I can't help but wonder if they didn't get themselves a patsy so you didn't feel singled out.
  17. Defensively, we actually held 3 different times on that 4th qtr series alone. Twice we put Giles in punting situations and our special teams jumped offsides, and the last time when we turned them over on downs. We missed opportunities offensively on three different occasions that could have prevented us from being in that situation in the first place, but that's neither here nor there lol I do agree that the passing game, particularly the short passing game has forced defenses away from stacking the box on us, and ultimately does open some things up
  18. I believe that's exactly what it was lol We still have a ways to go, but I'm looking forward to seeing this bunch develop over the next couple of seasons. You guys take it easy on us, okay? lol We don't have the horses to run with y'all, but definitely looking forward to seeing you guys in person.
  19. I agree. Still a lot to clean up, but finding a way to win these close games will pay off in a large way going forward Really thought the game changed when Fowler made the big hit in the hole early in the 2nd half. And side note....for all the talk not too long ago about us not making defensive adjustments...The last three weeks, we've given up 36 total points defensively (throwing out the Fort pick 6, of course). Of those 36, 27 have been scored in the first quarter. We've given up 9 points in quarters 2-4 plus a 2OT finish
  20. I dunno about that, but they did lose by 50+ to a Grayson County team that Galax easily handled in the regular season. Clintwood went on to beat Galax in the title game. Gavin Meade was the workhorse running back for Clintwood in both ‘11 and ‘12. I distinctly remember a Mullins kid or two also. Great teams!
  21. We had 6 turnovers that day. Some should absolutely be credited to Clintwood, but you cannot win when you do that. It’s a miracle the final was as close as it was. That 2011 team was much, much better than what we had in 2012. I’ll die on that hill lol it just didn’t work out for that team. And that’s not taking a thing away from our 2012 team.
  22. The sweetest thing about that 2011 Clintwood team and the 2012 GW team was the following week, they both went east with huge fan turnouts to semifinal games after a week of internet chatter about how we had zero chance and came away with wins. To sweeten the pot, 2011 Galax and 2012 Honaker also took care of business at home in the semis, and we had two years of nothing but west representatives in the 1A title game. Giles stole the show in 2013 with a 2A championship to boot. Absolutely my favorite stretch of time as a high school football fan.
  23. Gosnell went down in the 4th. Carroll was up 14-7 and GW was driving and deep in Carroll territory. Not sure how serious, but he never returned. They work that kid to death. On the flip side, the Webb kid for Carroll was all over the place on defense.
  24. This is correct. GW and Clintwood met in 2011 and 2012 in the quarterfinals as the west 2 and 3 seeds and split the series. The winner each of those years went on to win state titles.
