  1. halftime : Richlands leads Grundy 42-36. Wave gets a bucket at the buzzer, but a foul was waved off, so no shot attempted.
  2. The Lady Waves beat Richlands 61-35 to finish 17-3, 7-1 and will host the SWD tourney next week at Riverview E/M (4.6 miles below the traffic light, going towards Pikeville). Monday night : Grundy is the #1 seed, Carroll Co. #2. 3/4 still undecided between Tazewell & Graham. Finals on Thursday night.
  3. 1.) Ameriquest- "Mile-high club" 2.) FedEx - Caveman 3.) Bud - "streaker" 4.) Ameriquest - "bug zapper" 5.) Bud - "flip cards"
  4. Seems like I remember Garden competing in the LPD tourney when they tried wrestling a few years. The VHSL has "moved" the Hogo to Region D for Regionals, since so few D schools have teams. I've know lots of people over the years who thought A & AA were/are combined because Salem hosts the A/AA State Tournament every year. I have to tell them : it's A "AND" AA - they have a large floor there.
  5. What would their nickname be? Idon't think Bland would mind sharing "Rockets' with them. Just as long as they don't go with "Longhorns".
  6. Yeah, that's what you get for quoting someone and not mentioning it - makes YOU look bad when THEY made the mistake. Also, Hickam WASN'T fired - he's still a teacher. The School Board decided not to renew his coaching contract.
  7. George Mason HS in Fairfax switched to FieldTurf over the Summer - cost was around $700,000.
  8. actually, Richlands scrimmaged Pulaski in their first "contest" back in August - won 35-12
  9. is usually a local problem. I only had a couple of calls about probs. this season, and they were in the first month when we were still playing around with the feed hook-up.
  10. Our pre-game show on WGTH starts at 3:00.
  11. 5-3 defense. They have a "backfield by committee". Run a lot, but few 100 yard games, & none have 1000. Sr. QB Seth Little has about as many TD's running as passing (12 or so each), but 7 of 10 reg. season TD passes were 45+ yards. He avgs. about 50 rushing & 100 passing per game. Jr. TB Micah Zwanzig has as many TD's as the rest of the backfield guys (Shey Garst, Drew Loso & Andrew Armstrong) combined. K Cody Ochoa is about 43-47 on XP's & 7-9 on FG's (had a 43 yard miss vs. Harrisonburg that hit the upright). Handful of 2-way guys. Only 2 def. TD's (both INT returns) Coach Newman has been there about 20 years - last 3 as head coach. School is celebrating their 50th anniversary.
  12. I posted 3 sets of directions Sunday night. Just remember there's a game Sat. in Richlands, too. http://www.angelfire.com/va/vhsl/news.html
  13. Landstown had their forfeits overturned. Lynchburg (I mean Liberty) Chr. won their league title and are finished for the year. Salem-Va. Beach (AAA) lost 2 regular season games, so shouldn't have been on the list, anyway. AA Salem (or Salem-BR) won and is now at 19. Salem's h.s. was known as Andrew Lewis when Va. Beach opened their Salem. When Salem build a new building in 1977, it was re-named Salem, and the designations were added.
  14. H.B. Banjoman - Warren Co. (up I-81 to where I-66 takes off towards DC, just before Wincester). Had 351 yards tonight for 2,608 this season, which is a new regular-season record. Came close to making the top 10 overall (inc. playoff games), but the Wildcats didn't make the cut, so he's done. Also had 37 TD's this year, inc. a couple of 6 TD nights. Again, close to - but not - records.
  15. WGTH is 105.5 FM, if you're in the area. I had probs. with my connection in bound tonight. Did you listen on the 'net, and did we drop out?
  16. Landstown's forfeits may be overturned - William Fleming had the same thing happen a couple of years back, and kept the wins.
  17. Change Landstown 24*. They beat Bayside 35-21 Thur. night. Earlier in the day, they announced they had used an ineligible kid in 4 games - the first one was the season opener on 9/2 vs. Tallwood. They've appealed to the VHSL, which will make a ruling Monday afternoon. A similar thing happened to a playoff team in Roanoke a couple of years ago, and the VHSL basically said the school did nothing wrong, therefore, no forfeits.
  18. Their website is correct. You were looking at the pairings for Div. 3 in 2005, right? That page only lists the state semis & finals. This year, in Div. 3, the Region I champ plays at the Region II champ in the semis, and Reg. III plays at Reg. IV. Clue - Regions are Roman numerals, Divisions are regular numbers.
  19. No ties. No rules changes later on. Just keep playin'. Longest game so far was a 6 OT contest between Salem & Brookville in 2002. Last ties were in 1986.
  20. If Lee beats Va & Marion beats Abingdon, then we'd have 3 co-champs in the Highlands. Lee would finish behind M & V in points, so they're out. Marion would have a 2 point edge, and the only way VHS could pass them would be if, among other things, 0-9 Battle upsets 8-1 Wythe. If they DO finish tied, Marion wins the next tie-breaker, so Va. can't sleepwalk through Ben Hur Fri. night. If Marion & Va. both loss, Va. & Lee would be co-champs, with VHS getting the berth. Everything's been summarized on my preview page since Sunday morning. VHSL-helper
  21. Get a MAP. Richlands IS north of Wytheville.
  22. OK - I found them. They're in the VISAA (indep. league) Div. II, and they seem to have a new name. The state AP poll still has them listed as Lynchburg C.A. Their website says they're changing their name "this Fall" to Liberty C.A., but everything there still says Lynchburg. And, yes, as you'd expect, it's Falwell's school.
  23. And Landstown's a good 7-8 hour drive from here. I've never heard of L.C. -not even in a neighboring state.
  24. ya gotta get in, first. Geez. Check out the current points and previews. VHSL-helper
  25. "South" of Wytheville? Boy, we're an hour NORTH of Wytheville.
