  1. I for one enjoy watching Belmont play. This year's team is not as talented as their norm, but they play a game predicated on movement and crisp passing. When they are on, they can really light it up. I don't expect this one to be close, but I would love to see what Belmont's coach Rick Byrd could do with ACC caliber talent in his system.
  2. Revis is a Free Agency Hall of Famer. No one has used the system to make more and more $$$$. Oh and he even managed to get a ring along the way.
  3. Patrick Willis, Jake Locker and Jason Worilds call is it quits. 30, 26 and 27.
  4. Crony Capitalism - as old as the country itself.
  5. A billion won't touch the infrastructure issues in Central Appalachia. The remoteness makes it hard to impact those rural counties in E. KY where half of the most distressed in the region are. Big investments are needed, but they won't address the culture of poverty in the region, or any other high poverty region of the world. You can't build a lot of highways, water plants, fiber optic networks with a billion.
  6. I believe except for the Kam - Gronk collision, I had this on. Yeah, Katy Perry will not appeal to my demographich musically so that was easy. After watching "The Interview" on Friday, her song "Fireworks" takes on a whole new connotation for me.
  7. Looks like all I need is for Katy Perry to suck, and I am golden. BTW, her costumes will be sexy and she will look amazing; but her music will reek. I am looking forward to Kam inroducing himself to Gronk. That will be a collision.
  8. This smells like one of those "At the request of" bills. Those are bills that legislators introduce at the request of some interest group in their district; that they don't expect to pass. It generates a little heat but not much traction. If that is the case, it won't make it out of commitee. I hope I am right.
  9. Randy Johnson Pedro Martinez John Smoltz Craig Biggio My only surprise was Smoltz as first ballot. I thought he would be second ballot. Biggio was an absolute freak. Anyone who can start their career as a catcher, moves to second base and later to centerfield is a heck of an athlete, and his numbers never suffered. Also a consumate pro.
  10. Signing such in an altered state would make it null and void correct.
  11. The diference is that I saw the impact on both those plays in real time, my view was blocked on the Lambert hit. So I was unsure what happened. I never take pleasure in seeing a player injured, I just didn't see wha happened. BTW, don't make wagers based on my bold predictions,I obviously have no clue.
  12. Bowl game means the following: One month's extra practice time. Key for those freshmen and red-shirts. Continued discussion of your team in a quiet time helps recruiting. A chance to go to an exotic location. (Shreveport, Annapolis) Per diem money for the players. Swag from the bowl. The right to talk smack to your bretheren who did not. (This is fair game, while not always the tactful move.)
  13. Let's not forget that Graham is loaded this year. Everyone back from a team that was pretty good last year, and more talent in the pipeline.
  14. Bold predictions do not mean stupid ones. Mizzou has an inconsistent offense, BTW, I like the Lambert video. Since I actually watch the game on the field and not the big screen, I couldn't clearly see the impact of the hit.
  15. Bold prediction TCU & Baylor both get in when Georgia Tech beats FSU on Sat. Shoot just to double down Arizona gets Oregon on Sat. as well. That would blow things up real good.
  16. I am curious if the rise of Altavista and the fall of Gretna programs are connected. Those communities are so close together, I wonder if some of that talent migrated to Altavista from Gretna.
  17. Pat Forde on the subject: Virginia at Virginia Tech (11). Loser leaves town? With a moving van? Two embattled coaches with 5-6 records, both seeking to become bowl eligible. Cavaliers coach Mike London would appear to be less in control of his destiny than longtime Hokies boss Frank Beamer, but neither fan base is happy. When: 8 p.m. ET Friday. Hate meter: The enmity is alive and well, though neither side can be cocky in the grand scheme of things. Thomas Jefferson’s university has the classic, We Were Here First You Uncultured Heathen outlook on the old ag-and-mechanical cow college. The response from Blacksburg is to dislike the perceived arrogance of the entitled prepwads in Charlottesville. Some Virginia fans expressed there-goes-the-neighborhood dismay when Virginia Tech was allowed to join the ACC. Prestige meter: Virginia is tied for 23rd in the U.S. News rankings. Virginia Tech is tied for 71st. Upper hand lately: It’s been Hokie ownage. They’ve won 10 straight, a span of ownership now stretching more than 3,000 days – something plenty of Tech fans can tell you off the top of their head. Upper hand historically: Tech leads the all-time series 53-37-5. Trinket: the Commonwealth Cup is a handy bit of hardware. It’s a four-foot tall whopper, but the useful part is the silver cup that can be detached and used to drink the sweet nectar of victory postgame. Which is something Virginia Tech is quite accustomed to doing. Pick: Virginia 16, Virginia Tech 14. The nightmare losing streak ends at 10 for the ‘Hoos.
  18. I hope you got to see this. I missed it live because I was watching ESPN Goaline. Possibly the funniest thing I have seen in a while. http://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/2n53zf/announcers_lose_it_as_fan_sings_to_goose_at/ This is what happens when the game is not close and the announcers have to fill. A great catch by the cameraman.
  19. I hate to go with conventional opinions, except when they are based in fact. I expect that you will see some unusual things in the game Sat. Maybe even along the lines of what UVA did with Vic Hall. All streaks come to an end, and this one ends on Friday. BTW, I'll take a game like the one against Wake vs. the drubbing Miami put on the Hokies.
  20. Now history may prove me wrong, but the way the press is going on about Ebola, you would think we all were going to die tomorrow. I do wish people would chill and the crackpots who are saying that Obama is responsible and this is the first step in implementing martial law, or that Bill Gates and George Soros are behind it would just be quiet. Yes, Ebola is a horrible disease that kills 70% of those infected with it, but the odds of me getting it are low. That is unless I have direct contact with the bodily fluids of someone with Ebola. Living in SWVA, there is not a high probability of that happening, maybe 1 in a billion. There are greater health risks to me. I could get bitten by a shark, or have a stroke climbing Mt. Everest.
  21. My only concern with fracking is that adequate safeguards are put in place to avoid environmental damage. Extraction of many resources can have a long term detrimental affect, and we all know that most companies are going to minimze their cost in order to maximize ROE. Let's face it, these guys don't have a great track record of doing that on their own.
  22. I did miss on part of my prediction: One killer South Park parody. The Goodell-bot was priceless.
  23. Fielding percentage by itself is only half of the equation. A shortstop with limited range can have a great fielding percentage and still be a liability. Jeter and Ripkin weren't going to mishandle most of the balls they got to, there were just a lot of balls they could not get to. Smith and Omar Vizquel (sp) would get to balls that neither of the others could dream of fielding. They ate up a ton of balls that would have been hits against the Yankees or Os in Jeter and Ripkin's careers. Not a criticism of either, just a reality of the game.
