  1. That explains Jennings. But what about Clements & Edwards? 😉
  2. Hunter Norris is the new coach.
  3. The last line of that first paragraph certainly raises some questions.
  4. Congrats to our super 6 from SWVA who finished on the podium and earned All-State honors!! This tournament is different from the boys — there are no classes. In some brackets there were upwards of 50 ladies battling it out, and to stand on the podium is one helluva achievement. Grayson Co.: 145 - Isabella Hill - State Champion John Battle: 120 - Kari Streit - 5th place Lebanon: 114 - Portia Campbell - 3rd Radford: 152 - Margaret Paige - 3rd Richlands: 126 - Kendi Dye - 6th Union: 145 - Kyndal Satterfield - 4th
  5. She did. They have multiple criteria on how they do it. The order is: Winning percentage Number of wins 2023 VHSL Girls Championship finishing place Record vs. girls this season The 1 seed in that bracket is like 32-6 to Portia's 25-11. Those two have the most wins in that bracket -- but there are several girls who are 10-2 or 12-5 (for example) that got seeded higher by percentages. She'll be a threat to make the semi's from that 10 seed for sure. She's a helluva wrestler.
  6. Good luck to all of our girls from SWVA as they go for their state championships this weekend up at Gar-Field in Woodbridge. I’ll try to keep how the SWVA contingent does as it goes along. Here are the ladies and their seeds. Central: 100 - Kyle Sturgill 9 seed 114 - Sophie Carter 16 seed Ft. Chiswell: 107 - Olivia Scott 11 seed Grayson Co.: 132 - Danielle Burkhardt 19 seed 138 - Ashlynn Wilson 15 seed 145 - Isabella Hill 3 seed 152 - Lucy Kate Cherry 7 seed 185 - Lizbeth Lopez 12 seed John Battle: 120 - Kari Streit 6 seed Lebanon: 114 - Portia Campbell 10 seed 185 - Hazel Garrett 14 seed Pulaski Co.: 152 - Emily East 26 seed 165 - Patricia Eubanks 32 seed Radford: 100 - McKenzie Leighton 17 seed 120 - Kathryn Price 13 seed 132 - Kaitlyn McMurray 17 seed 145 - Lilly Brunner 16 seed 152 - Margaret Paige 8 seed 165 - Jackson Barnett 11 seed Richlands: 120 - Cami Spencer 7 seed 126 - Kendi Dye 2 seed 138 - Abby Hampton 43 seed Thomas Walker: 138 - Gabby Dixon 42 seed Union: 145 - Kyndal Satterfield 1 seed
  7. They usually do this at a neutral. Could it possibly be Richlands? It’s the mid-point between the two.
  8. 5 of the top 10 in class 2 are from region D. 💪🏻

  10. He's updating the original post at the top.
  11. Graham and Lebanon tied and Graham won a blind draw to get the 2 seed according to the Lebanon Facebook page.
  12. I think at the college & NFL level, you should be playing on grass. But for high schools, I'm all for turf just because it's easier to maintain for small schools.
  13. Green is such a dumb color. Why would ANYONE ever use it. 😉
  14. SWD in the past used the conference tournament for seeding. Not sure if that will remain this year or not.
  15. Richlands’ Kendi Dye won at 126 and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Lady Raider Rumble in Beckley tonight. She went 6-0 with 5 pins and a forfeit. That takes her to 24-3 on the season. All 3 losses are to boys, and she’s pinned every girl she’s wrestled this season. She’s entered 4 all-girls tournaments (two in Beckley, one in Radford, one in Pikeville) and has won her class in all 4. Excited to see how far she goes at girls state next month up in Woodbridge.
  16. I'm just saying I don't think Wicks is the pick because someone else mentioned his name. I think Shane is pretty happy in Honaker.
  17. Everything is a cycle. It’ll all come back around. There’s a group of young kids that are successful that in the next decade will be in high school and the pendulum hopefully swings back the other way.
  18. Finally starting to see the fruits of the youth wrestling club. They just started it 5 years ago, so you’re staring to see those kids who were young when it started move up to middle school and early high school. They’ve had over 60 kids go to tournaments multiple times this season. I’m excited to see the growth another 5 years from now.
  19. Richlands ended up placing 9th. Went 3-1 on the weekend. First team from Tazewell County to ever place in the VA Duels. Huge honor. Wish we could have gotten a different draw than Poquoson in that first round to see what would have happened.
  20. Grundy is in the semifinals of the Townebank bracket.
  21. Richlands lost to Poquoson (one of the best teams in the state) but has now won two in the consolidation bracket and will wrestle Tabb for 9th place. If they win they’ll have gone 3-1 in the Duels and that is one helluva accomplishment.
  22. He may or may not come back. No one really knows yet. But the allure of coming back to help an 0-10 program is to come back home to coach with your brother and help your brother turn an 0-10 program around. I know if I was in his shoes and had the chance to work with my brother, I'd be leaving, personally.
