  1. Which schools in SWVA are not able to field a boys or girls Varsity or JV team?
  2. I'd say very few people outside of Grayson County are hoping they win. Grayson with 364 students should definitely be playing in 2A. However they are playing a school with 109 students. That is really sad and in my opinion Grayson lost all respect from a large number of people by not playing where the numbers put them. On a side note, If Grayson and Rye Cove both win it will still be almost as bad with Grayson 364 students playing Rye Cove 160 students. Interesting to say the least.
  3. Who would be the favorite in the 1C game? I know Bath is the number one seed but not sure of their schedule strenth.
  4. I said back in August that Rye Cove was my pick to win the region and that I would not be surprised to see them in Salem come December. I'm sticking with the Cove. They know when to rise to the occasion. Heck, if they get by Eastside which I believe they will then I definitely hope they beat the region C winner and then go to Salam and bring that trophy back home 😂 . Go Cove!
  5. John thank you for being so honest.
  6. I noticed when compiling this list that Washington County is the only local county with four high schools.
  7. My bad Unchained. Sorry I left them off the list.
  8. I'm going with PH to upset Holston in round one.
  9. I think Honaker has improved a lot as the season has progressed. Grundy is very physical and can impose their will on most teams. This should be a good game but I'm going with Honaker to win on the turf. If the game was at Grundy I'd be going with the Wave.
  10. A break down of the ten counties most talked about on this board. Take it for what its worth as some teams play challenging schedules while others look for creampuffs to schedule. It should give you a good indication of how football is in your county. Teams can find wins if they want to travel a couple hours for nondistrict games but the downside of that is your gate money suffers and come district time the team has not improved and gets beat by 30-40 to most teams in their district. Politics is and has destroyed several programs as coaches get hired through the "good old boys club". It should be the "whats best for the kids club" but thats not how it works anymore. Scott County Schools 20-10 67% (Great year for Scott County football) 👍 Wise County Schools 18-12 60% (Another overall solid year for Wise County) Lee County Schools 12-8 60% (Both Schools are heading to the playoffs) Washington County Schools 23-17 58% (Not bad considering John Battle went 0-10) Tazewell County Schools 17-13 57% (Graham going 10-0 definitely helps) Russell County Schools 16-14 53% (Solid year for 2 of the 3 teams) Wythe County Schools 14-16 47% (Not bad considering the strength of schedules) Giles County Schools 9-11 45% (A county that eats and sleeps football) Buchanan County Schools 9-21 30% (This could be a sign that combing these schools in Fall 2026 is good for the kids) Smyth County Schools 6-24 20% (Something is off here but will it ever get fixed)
  11. I think Coach Norris is a very special coach. Guys like him are hard to find. Just think what the Norris-Salyer combo could do at say maybe Honaker? Probably never happen but that would be a special place to go play.
  12. Thanks. Great job as usual. 👍
  13. Honaker has some really good kids coming up and this job should attract some really good coaching candidates. I saw the middle school team play twice and they went undefeated with some great talent. They were fun to watch with a quarterback who is above average for a middle school kid and some big kids upfront. I don't see Honaker falling off any over the next four years. Honaker could get some transfers with the right coach the way kids move around in Russell County.
  14. Twin Springs, Castlewood, Holston, Northwood. Holston and Twin Springs have had great runs but an 8 man football team might suit them better. Look at the impact that injuries have had on Twin Springs this year. Holston is going to drop off a lot after this year. Northwood doesn't want to play anyone that is very competitive.
  15. Marion has gone down drastically over the past decade and I'm not sure there is any light at the end of the tunnel as their feeder program is also struggling. Its hard to figure out why Northwood refuses to play Marion because they say they can't compete with the big red machine. However, Northwood's 8th grade team has been hammering Marion for awhile now and the two schools play each other in every other sport. Have you seen the attendance at NW games? The 8th grade team has bigger gates. I don't see how they pay the officials and line off the field unless the county is giving them money. There is absolutely no reason these two schools shouldn't be playing each other being in the same county.

  18. I agree. Coach Carroll is both a good coach and a good person. You couldn't ask for a better person for the times I was around him when he was at Marion. The man has a good heart.
  19. Holston has been solid after being picked to finish 5th in the 6 team Hogoheegee district. They are one of the smallest schools in the state of Virginia however they have been fairly consistant over the past 20 years. I also respect that they don't go hunting a creampuff schedule as they play some good teams outside of their district.

    Injuries

Noah Tweed the quarterback at Holston left the game late in the 3rd quater against PH friday night. Looked like a possible concussion as he looked woozy. That was a physical football game. Holston is not very big but they will hit you. Does anyone know his status for this week or any other injuries which could impact this week's games?
  21. These are probably off a few places but I do believe they are fairly accurate. Points Average Record 1. Ryc Cove 150 21.43 7-0 2. Eastside 109 18.17 5-1 3. Holston 103 17.17 5-1 4. 22. Thanks to Jeffro and Liam for participating in Week 7 picks against the spread. If my calculations are correct Liam is this week's winner. Liam if I ever win the lottery I will send you a check for 25K. 👍 Liam 9-6 Jeffro 7-8
