  1. At $250,000 a year thats one hell of a plummer.
  2. Like I said, I respect people who stand for what they believe. Im 34, and have a lot of experience in my life so far. I grew up in Giles, lived in Florida 6 years, worked 2 jobs, lived in a trailor, in near poverty. Moved back home, worked 2 jobs, and climbed my way out of poverty, (no hand outs). Worked bad jobs here, and worked at Volvo as well. Like you said life isnt fair. Well that is what a Union is for. It makes it fair. We dont get rich working union jobs. We just get a fair share. Im not much on a computer, so someone else would have to cut and paste union material. All I know is they created holidays, 5-day work weeks, and 8 hour days. and everything people take for granted while working today, they can thank the unions for laying the foundation. Sure they were stronger in the past, but they are still needed today. Unions dont hurt corporations. Its only right for employers to pay a fair wage, and have a safe environment. If a non union company does all of this, then my hats off to them. But its rare. As for those numbers, it looks like anti-union propaganda, which is no different than the liberal media. Unions negotiate contracts, wages and benefits. But companies are still in charge. We still do what Volvo says, and most people earn their money. Jobs there are much tougher than they used to be. Its that 14-17% that is holding its ground. If that were to dissapear, the 80+% would drop to even lower standards. As for taxing the rich, and them moving or passing the tax to the consumer. That is Greed, You closed the loop holes leting them move, and make them do right. We shouldnt be held hostage by our own corporations. Have you seen what a CEO makes? About the voting, maybe it wouldnt have made a difference, but some shady things happened, and if I can find details about these I'll post them. No hard feelings.
  3. You never proved me wrong. You just dont agree, and you are good at research. Plus your opinion and mine differs greatly on Unions, and average working Americans. You are out of touch with most of the folks Im around. I understand more where you are coming from now. You are completely opposite from me and you seem to stand on a stoop and talk down to ones who dissagree. You are getting personal by calling me ignorant, so thats where I'll end this discussion on here. I dont want to lose my membership here. If you want to continue the personal attacks, look me up at http://www.gilesmountainstringband.com and find me or call me out. Im not hard to find. Chris Via
  4. How do the rich pay their fair share when their percentage is lower? You folks kill me. Im sick of you Republicans trying to shout everyone down just because you dissagree. All I said about those counties, was that intimidation happened, which it did. As for Unions, they still set the standard and non union shops still have to be close to compete. No Unions, No standards, then eveyone loses. You odviously have no real blue collar working experience, so your opinion there is baseless. The only reason I keep answering back is because Ya'll seem to be calling me a liar, and ingnorant. Thats typical of your type. Talking big behind the keyboard.
  5. Its not necessarily punishing the rich. Its making them carry their share of the load. There is something wrong when middle america pays higher percentages than the rich americans who can afford it. There are a lot of laws, and loopholes that help the rich, and corporations even more than just the tax brackets. Its only fair. Its not socialism. I dont agree with everything in the democratic party, but they do try to help with wages, labor, and safety in the workplace. Most Republicans are anti-union, and if their agenda prevails, there will be no more decent paying jobs, or regulations. We would be pretty much a 3rd world nation . The unions set the bar years ago, and continue to hold on today. These discussions could last for years. We all have strong reasons for party affiliation. I respect everyones reasons, even if I dont agree. As far as Acorn, I hope they catch the corrupt people who are commiting fraud. It wont make any difference on election day, as you have to have an ID anyway. But thats what this disscussion was about anyway. I dont like everything Acorn does but going into these commnities, and getting people regestered, where they havent felt a part in this before is a good thing. Some people just havent bothered with voting in the past. Im glad to see more getting involved. If McCain wins the liberals will cry. If Obama wins The far right will cry. Thats just the way it is.
  6. You are nieve if you think these groups are "all but dead". Ive spent quite a bit of time in these places. Just because you dont agree with me doesnt mean Im wrong. Voter supression happened in Florida, and mainly in the areas I mentioned. The small towns I mentioned are still greatly segegated, and openly racial(both sides). You must live in a different world, or just never made it out of Tallahassee. I was born and raised in Giles county, moved to Florida to work, and married a Black woman, who has family there, so I know 1st hand of these accounts. Plus there are severals towns there where we were not welcome. So how are you going to say my image of this area is Wrong. Its my image, not yours. Im not a liberal, but a union proud democrat. The liberal media has its problems, but if it werent for that same liberal media exposing some wrong doing, people would still be living under Jim Crow. Thats whats wrong with the republican party now, and people like you. They think things are fine, (like in your world) while other folks might have a different story. People can laugh if they want, Im just reporting somethin that did happen. If you dont agree, then just quit posting back. Stick to Richlands football.
  7. Sure have been there. I lived in Florida 6 years. The towns that were reported were Perry Fl, Monticello,Madison,Starke, Marianna, and Live Oak. These areas of Florida are amoung the most racial in the country. Go to the southern Poverty web site and find out yourself. I dont spew ignorance. Ive always kept up with things like this. Klan, and skinhead populations in Florida are enormous. Dont call me a liar ole boy, I aint got no reason to make something like that up. IT HAPPENED!
  8. I dont agree with frau, and I hope they get it straightened out, however there are good people trying to get new people registered as well. The last 2 elections were won through fraud by the republicans. Florida was handed to Bush twice. Blacks were intimidated in the northern Panhandle towns, and this is a fact. I dont agree with any fraud, and I hope they straighten it out, but America's poor has never really had a fair shake at voting, and now they will turn out in record numbers, and we will never hear the end of the complaints from the far right.
  9. Obama believes in the 2nd amendment, so his and McCains stance are the same. The NRA would beg to differ, but they lobby to the Republican ticket, so their job is to smear the Democrat in races. Obama has had issue with assault weapons, which NRA and the radicals connected to the NRA opposed, but as far as hand guns, and hunting weapons, there are no differences in the 2 candidates.
  10. No way that Palin came even close to winning. In this great country of ours, knowledge of subjects should be 1st and foremost. Style, winks, folksy sayings, and continuosly deverting the questions to rehearsed speeches about McCain turned me even further away. Plus, I hate to hear them folksy sayings mixed in with her yankee-like accent. That made it seem even more fake. Wait until all of her corruption unfolds. Read up on it, tax evasion, false perdium claims. It will all be coming out.
  11. 05 Giles 35-34 victory over Manassas Park in the title game.
  12. Im just saying with the hard nosed reputation Richlands has, the single wing would have been perfect. Everyone runs the spread now. The wing is hard to prepare for in 1 week. When you get deep in the playoffs, you start meeting team that are bigger, or faster, and run the spread too, The single wing would give you that difference to counter that speed.
  13. Coach Mance would have ran single wing at Richlands, but I heard that the ones who hired him asked him if he would run the SW, and made it clear they didnt want that. That offense would have really fit Richlands' personel.
  14. Thanks for the kind words. Lebanon has a fine team, and played tough. I talked to several folks last night from other schools. Where are you from? I sat by someone from Abington, and Tazwell. Coach Williams is doing a heck of a job, because anyone who watches Giles football will tell you we dont have near the depth, or overall talent as usual, but we still have the heart, and we keep improving. I think he is made this team more than expected. Now we have to get ready for brutal district games.
  15. I would think so, since ours averages 271 at times. The question is can we handle their speed. I have no doubt that they wont stop our power game, but their speed could hurt us.
  16. GW and Giles both play very tough single A schedules. I dont know if we will win the TRD, because I dont see us beating Floyd at Floyd, but I admit, we have come along way for a team with 2 returning starters, and a new coach. We are weak against the pass, or GW has an awsome passing attack. We have a punishing running game. We play with heart. We should be okay if we stay healthy. GW should be okay too. Chilhowie will be a tough test. Good luck GW. I heard that Pruitt showed some class after the loss. Thats good if its true. He didnt last year, and I like to see a coach show class.
  17. Probably was built to withstand Category 5 winds, but no much can withstand that much water pusing over that island.
  18. Several reasons, He said he will close loopholes that rewards tax breaks to companies moving work oversees. He said he will re-negotiate NAFTA. He supports unions, and unions set the standards for EVERYONE. Health care is a big issue causing a lot of companies to move. They cant burden the costs. While Im not sure if Obamas plan would work or not, I know McCains wont. I'll just be glad when this is all over.
  19. Maybe evil was a strong word in my post, but greedy was not. By the way, I watch all the news channels, not just 1. As far as the war goes, I respect all soldiers, and support the troops. Still, the war is wrong. I thought we fought for OUR freedom, not some 3rd word country in the middle east. Since when do we care about their freedom? You know its more than that. We have countries all around us with no freedom, What makes Iraq any different. Plus, I know a lot of Republicans who vote for the popularity contest as well, Does that make them less informed? Some vote republican for social status. It a complex issue. I stand by my post. Im going back to the football board!
  20. Clodhopper, We have disagreed in the past about the speed of Giles' runningbacks, but I agree 100% with you on your politics. Im a Christian, Im against Gay Marriage, and abortion, but I wont let the smoke clog the issues. You wont vote rightousness into the Whitehouse no matter what. I wont fall for these games anymore. Some of the most evil, greediest folk in the USA hide behind the republican platform. Corruption is already shining through the McCain-Palin ticket and its not even started yet. Anyone who totes a lunchbox to work needs to vote for Obama. This country will never be socialist. We have always had some socialist ideas in place. Communism is made up of only rich and poor as well, and if the republicans shrink our middle class any more, thats where we are headed. Nobody is going to change anyones mind here, and that is clear. I respect people who feel they are voting for their morals. I just feel people are getting duped.
  21. This is a pretty big game. Giles is 1-2 after opening losses to B-Burg and C-Burg. GW is 0-3 after starting with a brutal schedule as well. We get to find out just where we stand as far as common opponents will go. This has become a rivalry lately. The atmosphere will be crazy in Pearisburg Friday. Lets hope for a good clean game. Whats folks think of this matchup?
  22. You werent firing all cylinders against magnolia. Taylor was hurt, Ticher was TB. Plus, I thought Magnolia was the best team in WV last year.(just my opinion) They didnt make it to finals, but sometimes that happens.
  23. actually, I think JM opened it up a little more than Giles. Giles is just straight up run, and buck lateral. Spin series doesnt go well with buck series for some reason. I watched quite a few JM games while they ran the wing. It was fun to watch if you are a smash mouth fan like myself.
  24. Giles is a little down this year, I agree, but we would be just plum awfull if we scrapped the wing and went to the spread. Ive said it many times on here, The single wing is perfect for Giles, JM, and other schools that are not flooded with D-1 talent. Its a team-work system, and if 11 men do there assignment, it works. Its proven. The spread relys too much on sheer athletisism. Id rather run 6 plays and run them perfect than to (half-way) know 3 or 4 different sets and 50 plays. I really dont have a dog in this fight, Im just defending the offense that brought you the most success in JM history.
