I remember reading this earlier in the week thinking that you were talking out of your rear end but you were about spot on with this. Nice one.

I can honestly say that the fastest, most elusive player I have ever seen at Ernie Hicks Stadium was Thomas Jones.
Without question. Unequivocally.
-
I'm curious to see how many agree with that here.
I agree though on the outlook for next year. Forecast calls for F5 on the Fujita Scale. Lose few and the returning players have great experience. I don't think you'll see early tentativeness like we saw at Gate City this year. Would like to see more muscle, toe-to-toe lineman, three-point stance, and a center-snap inside the 5-yard line when necessary.
-
Is anyone stopping at K-Marts or Wal-Marts in Claypool Hill before heading to Cave Springs?
-
I wonder if Bruce knew then what sand castles on the beach and Auburn football have in common.
-
I remember seeing him practice long snapping, running, and lifting for hours early in his pro career while I was lifting one summer at the high school. Kids would finish, we'd leave, and many times I'd drive by later in the afternoon and he'd be running sprints outside or something. Looked to me like he was, yes, gifted with size but also had ability and was willing to bust his rear end too.
Seems like we see all the time players gifted with ability (and/or size) and no real willingness to put in the long hours of extra work even if they're only going to contribute as a long snapper. Luckily, things worked out better for Compton.

Best football atmosphere has been at Liberty University before a Richlands state championship game.
I've always appreciated Tazewell losing to Richlands at Tazewell though. That's my kind of atmosphere being completely honest.

When Richlands beat Tazewell it was a real upset...

The fields/stadiums I've been to as a fan of the Big Blue: Ernie Hicks, Grundy, Graham/Bluefield, Tazewell, Lebanon, Gate City, Abingdon, VA. High, Carroll County, Martinsville, Honaker, Marion, Giles, Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Powell Valley.
I thought Grundy was about the worst from that list. But I'll be the first to admit that Ernie Hicks was never anything to write home about ... haven't been there since the new turf though.
EDIT: Sometimes you have to take the 'time of year' and such into consideration. Ernie Hicks was muddy as hell in 1992 during the state run and terrible, for instance. But as for overall worst field/football experience, I say Grundy from the ones I've seen personally though.

Their website says they've been open since 1978. Could be a situation like ol' Cuz's Uptown - need that insurance money for some reason or another so they strike a match every few years or so.
-
Word is that Virginia High has decided to only negotiate in Tennessee currency -- free lap-dance tickets redeemable at The Mouse's Ear.
/ sales tax not included in estimate
-
Did Va. High hire someone?
Edit: Found the thread on this.
