  1. Sheets should easily be the QB. He was undefeated as a freshman and won the only game for the varsity last year. Ask Tazewell who should have been the QB last year. A 4 touchdown game. He is short but should have started as a QB/RB last year if not for a coaching "agenda" and his daddy not having a hand in things. A new coach should have a open view and perhaps everyone will have a clean slate. Sheets is short, but no one is going to play D1 football off of that team. I would love to see a hard working, great kid get a chance at Graham once again. If memory serves the only game SS has lost he started out at QB was against Grundy. Last years QB had a cannon. That didnt work out well at all. Baker has a cannon? Thats odd you feel that way. Have you seen a baseball game. At the games I attended the throws from shortstop bounced at least once. One more thing in response to the size thing. The Sheets kid played every snap against RHS after the first few possessions. He kept getting up when a bigger kid exited the game multiple times throughout the year. If we are talking "size" SS or GB have none of it. GB is "taller" but no muscle. SS is very muscular but short. He mowed my grass last summer and he isn't small from a physical stand point. I will take small and muscular over tall and boney anyday when it comes to durability. SS once again went undefeated in JV. Single handidly won some games, per coaches. Was the difference in the Taz. game. Look at what Taz did to Marion and what Marion did to Taz. Only difference was QB. The thing is SS is not a cocky, mouthy, self obsorbed kid. You aren't going to hear about how great he is because hes not that kind of kid and neither are his parents. I WILL SAY HE IS A EXCEPTIONAL ATHELETE. First and foremost he is a good student, polite young man and does everything the "right" way. Not saying other kids don't, but he has been "deficated" on by coaches and comes out every day and works hard. You can get behind a kid like that. He is a good example of what every kid should be. His father has tried many, many times to get him to transfer elsewhere. If he is not playing somewhere, in a meaningful position then I hope he listens to his father.
  2. I heard tonight at the Graham Bluefield slaughter that the kid from Princeton still lives in Princeton. How can you play sports in Tazewell County and live in Princeton? I thought the kid from tazewell just got busted for the same thing and declaired ineligable. I was told a coach at Graham got him an address for possibly a month so he could play sports and he never physically moved. Is this true? If so how is it legal?
  3. Don't know all coaches specifically, nor duties. Only two actually coach and make decisions. Per players and community. Duties? You tell me? My best guess is. 1. Talking to each other about how great they were back in the "day". 2. Taking their shirts off and throwing passes to kids out of school who have already graduated during practice. 3. Hanging out with high school kids on the weekend. 4. Doing laundry and picking up equipment. 5. Not tucking their shirts in on gameday (sidelines). 6. Letting players talk to girls and people in the community at the fence during the game. 7. Laughing and acting as if nothing was disappointing after a fifty point beating. 8. Playing the blame game 9. Being coooooooooooooooooool. They have some coaches with integrity, but it sure isn't helping the others. I don't honestly know just my best guess from things I hear. No specific names, just hearsay. I don't know but it sure isn't coaching. It's not their fault (assistants other than one), heck let them have some control and see if they can coach. I will say this. With all the things possible current players post on here, it can't be a good situation. I hope they start taking things seriously and let assistants coach specific positions to get better. They need to get better as a team. Players and coaches have to take responsibility for the current state of affairs. Some coaches need to go for lack of professionalism and lack of ability as a whole. Doug Marrs is said to have resigned. I doubt it because he would not do that to a team in the middleof a season. Change some things up and perhaps it will get better.
  4. Asbolutely not. He was Assistant Coach of the Year! Biggist joke going with local coaches. Don't know how it happened but it sure as he** did. lol. Did you see in the paper about BSC going on probation in basketball? The man won a total of around 5 games, while cheating, and could not win. lol Heard he was going to be an assistant coach at GHS in basketball. No joke. Why would anyone allow this? On a seperate note is the Doug Marrs resignation true? We need more info please. BTW will the whole staff leave, because that would be a grand idea also? Doug Marrs was the only "real" coach they have. I may get flamed but its true. He knows what he is doing, he just surrounded himself with inexperience and fools with other agendas. One assistant coach walked around all practice during two-a-days with his shirt off passing the football to former players. Made alot of high school girls and parents feel uncomfortable from what I hear. Another is in the paper for being one of the worst coaches in college and left a team with probation. It is his fault for hiring these bafoons so he might be taking his "long overdue" medicine. GHS football is a disaster and he was the creater. Now give us some more information on this "resignation thing" please. Is their any basis to what you have heard?
  5. I have to disagree, personel is a huge problem. It does start with coaching. The CB and Saftie(s) covered no one. I think possibly three defended passes ON THE YEAR. The corner is not BIG ENOUGH to cover a second grader (its size) and does not tackle well at all. I would put a 220 lb kid out there, he can do no worse (honestly). The Safety(s) were in a cover 2 at times and ran directly to the line of scrimmage on any play, play fake or not. The Safety 43 possibly? Did nothing at all a safety should be doing to this point in the year. POOR ANGLES, RUNNING STRAIGHT UP ON EVERY SNAP, NOT COVERING THE ONLY DEEP MAN ON THE FIELD, ECT. THERE HAS TO BE SOMEONE WHO IS BETTER PERIOD! Put Daylight or Davidson at Safety just like David Marrs did in years past. You have to know football to be a safety, period. And as far as the 43 kid having all the supposed speed it just doesn't show. Undersized and underachieving. Give someone else a chance for god sake. They put in number 7 (Hargrove sp?) and he played a hell of a game. First year player, first game started. Someone is waiting, somewhere. It can be literally be no worse. Have you seen the passing statistics and right side run stats? That's your problem right there. 5 is a good WR, one of the best, not tearing him down but he has to feel so out of position. 43 (?)Worst play I have seen from a GHS Safety. Just when I stated YC played well last week, he also literally ran away from the QB who was bearing down on him, waited for him to pass him, then dove at his ankles. Parents say these kids play because their parents hang out with (parents) or are related to Coach Jones. Just passing it on, its from starters parents not just kids on the bench. Multiple coaches from other area schools agree. Run right or pass right and you move the ball all night. I just don't see why they film the games if adjustments aren't going to be made. Once again the Gearheart (sp) kid was pulled for ONE MISTAKE. I saw many others get lit up for 21pts on rediculous mistakes. We are talking not within thirty yards of the only wide out on the field mistakes. Bias is running rampant and we all know why. Coach Marrs needs to end this stuff.
  6. Parents of Tazewell are the NUMBER ONE detterant to success on the football field. Either by putting negative thoughts about their own program to their children or "running off" decent coaches. We just collect poor coaching at Graham and no one does a thing. I had a kid come through during the CC era at Graham and it is beyond me what I see now. I thing the assistant coaches outside of DJ collectivly may have 3 yrs between them. That doesn't count the laundry and equipment assistants. Sad! DING! We have a winner. Tazewell gets rid of good coaches and we keep poor ones. LOL
  7. No sir! Don "Wee Cee you can't coach" Jones owns that honor.
  8. Once again the secondary is terrible. One CB cannot tackle nor defend a pass. Run right, throw right and you win against GHS. I have no IDEA why the SAFETY or CB are still playing in ball games on D. Coach Jones must still be BBQing with them on the weekends. He pulled a young man on D for giving up one big play. I think it was the Gearhart (sp) kid. What about the thirty runs and passes that have successfully gone to the right side all night. Not trying to sound like a broken record but MY GOD. Watch the film! Correct the glaring mistakes! FIND OTHER CBs. Everyone was talking pure trash about the secondary for the third game in a row, two players especially. No one will tackle (in the secondary). Hats off to D.J. (Daylight) another good night of hustle and stopping potential plays from the backside. The D end from PHS, Diaz (sp), looked good for about a half then conditioning issues took over. Good to see a decent sized MLB as well. I honestly think this is the only game GHS can win outside of THS. The secondary blew it! 2-8 is the best case senario for GHS. Maybe things will change. I agree 100% with the lesser opponent statement made earlier. Some good runs (for a change), good blocking and decent QB play. Missed alot of open recievers on reads, but once again hit wideouts in the hands for the most part. Good work AD and DJ. The line still has a ton of work both O and D.
  9. Wee Cee "you can't coach" Jones was assistant coach of the year. He don't need yo help. He has his cousins , neices, nephews and best friends kids playing. Dung Marrs will not allow anyone else to talk to his ASSistant about it. Besides that video doesnt have a 5 ft tall 90 lb kid waiting for someone to run past him and jumping on his back or a six foot ninety pounder running up from a safety spot into the O line letting fifty yard passes and runs for the oppositions O. Maybe they will beat VHigh. They moved one corner and the Castillo (I think not sure on sp.) played well. Now maybe Daylight to safety and LE to the other corner and we will be onto somthing. Heard LE was hurt however so who knows???
  10. The GHS prediction is dead wrong. They have made one change on D and it was the corner on the right that no one noticed as a problem. The wrong corner was benched. No changes on O other than going from the spread. Graham will not score and will be embarrassed once again. 0-2 countdown to a new coach each week unless something drastic happens. Move the OLB to corner. The other to safety. Just not big enough, but aggressive enough to make a difference in the right spots. Put some larger kids in the middle. Find a sufficient safety. Line needs help, maybe new faces there this week also. Nope. I guess last eek showed everyone that all the talent is out there. Put some beef in at fullback and move the current FB to a wing back. I defended Marrs but no longer. Keep it in the family boys. It is evident to everyone in the public just what is going on out there. I'm done. Will no longer attend games to support this coaching garbage, I will do my part to make sure things change by no longer giving money to this nonesense. Boys you can have a good year, you just have to dominate practice to get an opportunity, because after last week and no changes I think no matter what certain individuals do or not do nothing is going to change. Good luck boys, maybe changes will be made soon. Just poor coaching and personel moves.
  11. I have become a fan of Grundy. They are doing everything possible to get better. I picked them as a sleeper to finish second in the SWD this year in a office bet. I like what they are doing and see marked improvement in recent years. They just have to keep working hard and good things will happen this year. They will drop next year but "mark my words" have "potential" to suprise some folks. Keep pluggin fellas. I like the G-Men but will cheer for the Wave this year and catch some games. They opitimize what hard work will do this year. I just have a gut feeling. Don't know why, just feel that way. BTW Bull is a fine fellow, first class guy.
  12. Not to be difficult but when did the before mentioned safety do anything positive. He was out of position all night and should be the deepest man on the field. I dont recall him hitting or tackling except one play and that was against the second team O. He doesn't seem to grasp the duties of a safety at all, you have to be very savvy to play safety and stay in your position. It was either bad coaching or pitiful play, my guess is poor coaching. He has no buisness being there. They should put him as a blood end so he doesn't have to think, use his so called "speed" to rush all night. He is just not a safety. I'm sorry but that comment about his potential/play is rediculous. Put Daylight in at safety. At least he reads plays and tackles. He played well. The only positive on D in my opinion. The secondary did not defend or break up a pass all night and you say the safty played well. Bluefields recievers made a number of good catches, but come on. I honestly dont think we defended one pass all night. Throw on Graham or run to the flats and you will win. They should give some other players a chance on D and O so perhaps their backs can rest. It can literally be no worse and they can build for the future. The secondary as a whole was attrocious. That is the number one reason for a rediculously inflated scoreboard outside of the two offensive plays. I would have ran to the flats all night. You can't let them run by you then tackle from behind. The D in the middle against the run seemed sufficient. We stopped them one time all night, until the subs for Bluefield came in. They were just as dominant. This is not a GHS D. They CANNOT TACKLE. Why hit a player head up when he outweight you by fifty pounds. POOR DEFENSIVE COACHING. I saw more more kids get trucked due to poor form than in the 30 plus years I have attended the game combined. The defensive coach should be demoted in lew of someone else. The people sitting around me were screaming for the saftie(s) and corners to be pulled all night. And when the second, possibly third, string offense for bluefield was passing and running all over them, there were still no subs. PATHETIC. If I was a young man on that team, that didn't play, I would assume I had no role whatsoever in football at Graham. No wonder they are in the shape they are in. Any positive comments about the offense or defense are futile. The QB is a tough kid and had proboably the best run of the night from the spread. He threw to one kid on offense every time he had time to pass. The one reciever could not catch. The QB put the ball in his hands over and over again. The kid, number 40 something, cant catch either. When he finally threw to one of the other open recievers, there were plenty (no disrespect for Bluefield, I think they knew the ball was only going to one player). I think it was 5, that had a decent pick up on the only throw away from the other kid. In truth though he only had time to look at one person before he was hit in the mouth by a number of defenders. The kid he threw to on fifteen out of seventeen attempts (sarcasm) dropped every ball thrown his way. The back up QB pitched the ball on the option for a fumble but if it had been a good pitch it would have been a good gain. The starting QB seemed afraid to pitch the ball, but after watching the hands of the running back I can see why. I think the triple option will work from the spread if the defense is read efficiently. Spread the love. Let other backs carry the ball for goodness sake. The main back for Graham was ineffective last year and this year. Find someone to help him out. I knew who was getting the ball all night. The assistant coach of the year truely showed how effective he was as a D coach. Perhaps he needs to go to some coaching clinics. Someone please ask him to shave the mullet he has growing from his chin, it is very unprofessional and not becomming of a professional. For God sake let Palmer or Bradshaw take over. Heck call Litz or Rick Marrs and see what they are doing. Graham was obviously outmatched but the D could not stop a pass all night and it was sad. The offense needs to go from the spread to help the line. They also need to incorperate more than one player to help him out. He had Bluefield kids following him all night. The playbook needs to go away from dives and stretches. Throw the playbook away. The D and O needs to add some new faces (can't hurt, sub them in and out) and get better coaching. PLEASE work on TACKLING. Graham needs a 0 or 1 win season for the community/athletic department to open their eyes. That will never happen because the schedules allow for some easy wins near the bottom. I don't think anything will be easy this year however so maybe it will happen. We beat a few teams near the bottom of the schedule and everyone thinks we "are getting better". We need to get better before the season starts. That starts with coaching. Marrs is a good coach that has allowed some people to take over areas of the game they no nothing about. Like it or not he is a winner from a good past coaching staff, he knows his stuff. He just lets an assistant have to much power and play to many family members. He will learn. Hopefully. The kids have a ton of fight and seem to work hard, just poorly coached. Some kids are out of position or have no reason playing all together. Some kids are O players, some are D players. I know of a few on D and O that need to play one way only. You got to hit to play football. When they break down film I'm sure the defense will be moved around and new faces starting, no one is dumb enough not to adjust the secondary after Friday night. GOD HELP US! Perhaps the assistant coach of the year thing was a ploy so he would leave for a college job. It worked in basketball and we are better for it. The Graham/Beaver game should not be continued until many things change.
  13. Thank you for the input. I always look forward to hearing from players and think highly of their opinions. Good luck next year TB and keep up the good work. Any input with the TE or RB/FB positions?
  14. I think this will mark the biggest noticable improvement when Graham and Grundy drop to single A. I went to a Graham baseball game last year and watched four pop ups in the infield (I mean little leauge caliber) drop for singles. GHS definitely has the worst baseball program in the SWD. The sad thing is that the previous coach actually improved them last year. Who will the new coach be? I pray that they turn it around because I love to watch solid HS ball.
  15. Sorry, I wasn't just talking height. I was told he had actually gotten a little taller. AD and SS both need to get "bigger" in the weight room. I was told SS has gained weight and doesn't carry any fat with just a month or so of lifting. Not sure about AD, dunno if he is lifting, possibly due to back injury? TG is the most physically ready to play as it stands just due to physical frame, dunno much about his or others QB skills though. Why doesn't someone give us a little insight who has played or coached these young men? Height isn't really that big of a deal in double A ball. Look at Vic Hall from Gretna. He was the best all around QB in the state that I have ever seen in person. He was short but had a rocket. It did effect his college position. CB if I am not mistaken, but the kid was unbelievable in HS as a fresh, soph, jr. He did hit a growth spurt his jr. year. Who is in the hunt in the backfield this year?
  16. Congrats Torren on the scolarship. I trust your opinion. Spencer already has a good arm. They say he can throw about 40yds with his small frame and is a excellent runner, just short. Has he grown any? On a side not, I enjoyed watching you and your brother play bball this year. You guys had a excellent season.
  17. I heard Taylor Gearhart was switching positions. AD also does not look physically ready to play in the SWD. Undersized, looks more like a reciever. Just speculation. Why did he sit out a year? I also heard they were switching to a option based attack. AD is not the fleetest of foot so perhaps a back will be the new man under center. DM seemed to always be rolling out and using his feet more than arm. Very proud of him. I think he had the most heart of any kid I had the pleasure of watching this year. Impossible to replace his "want" and "fire". You hear alot of things this time of year. I have heard that one of the JV players from the undefeated team last year is transferring to Bluefield. Who knows? One kid to watch is CM from Tazewell. Has a good arm and mechanics. He will just be a soph. and heard he has the QB slot all but won.
  18. Its not will it happen but rather when. Already been decided from the sources I have. Supposed to happen in 2011.
  19. Good work G Men. I was one who voted on the old 0-10 season. Way to make me eat crow. It is good to see something positive coming out of this season.
  20. Uh, no! Why would we want a coach that Tazwell does not? How about a new proven coach from outside the immediate area. Possibly one with a winning record.
  21. Grundy has a very good back, number 10 possibly? I think they take this one by at least 2 touchdowns. I never thought I would be saying Grundy by 14 in any Graham game. Its sad and makes me very angry to know Grundy is currently better than us. Not saying anything negative about Grundy, more so a negative toward the ol Gmen
  22. You are correct. I was at the scrimmage and they were somewhat successful. Much more successful than during the current season. The spread allows those small, quick backs to get out in space. Only problem is they like to dance and jitterbug around. If they would go north and south things would have been even better. You can't start dancing until you are 5 to 7 yards past the line of scrimmage. Take what the D gives then dance till your heart is content. Grahams biggest problem is that they favor a 19 60's-70's offense and defense because that is all they know (coaches) and are willing to learn. Maybe a few coaching clinics this summer would do some good.
  23. Just to set the record straight, I believe the JV is undefeated and the eighth grade team has only lost one game thus far this year. The JV almost lost to Honaker (sp.) this week because one of the coaches that has not been there decided to call offense. He is another little leauge coach with a losing record. Needless to say it was the Wishbone and they almost lost, having to go to overtime to win. This JV team was far and beyond the worst team they have played per an official at the game. This "new" JV coach (looks like Doug Marrs only shorter) has the same syndrome as the varsity coaches and needs to stay away from the JV. Rex Bradshaw was the previous coach and beat much, much better competition running from the spread. Hopefully this shows that the type players Graham has for the future (smaller, quick) could thrive in the spread. Question: If it isn't broken stay away from it. Why would this new guy be allowed within 100 feet of the JV if they are undefeated. Was this a intentional attempt to cause a failure on the JV to get some of the heat off the Varsity? I'm confused.
  24. +++"The fans said it was number 32. Any input would be appreciated. Once again this (could be total rumor) but I doubt it coming from the sources the info was received. "+++ So you agree it was someone... I didn't say any young mans name, nor did I report it. Obviously you know it was not this individual so who was it? Do you support the actions of the individual and if so why? Once again, I did not report it, was discussing a lousy display of sportsmanship on any level. This is a discussion board so I wanted to "discuss" my friend. On a side note, I talked to the young mans father and he laughed, said he received many phone calls from parents and that it did happen. he added that it had to be frustration on the players and/or coaches part. He said his son was tough and taught better than act in that manner. He found it amusing that the young man was not pulled after the first infraction. He said that the coaches "should have" pulled him, but it was ultimatly an officials decision so the coaches were not in the "wrong" by "rule". Did seem odd to him that it happened on "back to back" kneeling plays well after the whistle blew. He added that the team played well and his son was very positive about the outcome of the game. He said that he (his son) was initially upset but not worried in the least about the issue.
  25. Thanks for the info. This goes along with the report I recieved. Doesn't this have to be reported by the officials and wouldn't the second flag warrant a ejection? Lastly, it was stated that the kid was waving his hands above his head trying to get the crowd to applaud. If this part is true and he was not removed from the game after the first infraction, then coaches should be disciplined and suspended from ANY and ALL duties. If they felt they were wronged in some way by the officials, does it make it right to take cheap shots at a innocent kid? Who are the coaches and I will encourage my friends to make a phone call to Abington High School. Where is the school board for their county located? Thank you in advance. I know the kids father and maybe he should be encouraged to make a phone call. The QBs father is a High School coach and I would expect him to take action if the hits were indeed maliscious in nature.
