  1. My question is: how is $120000 going to cover all the expenses for new uniforms?
  2. I agree with you Central sucks but so does Union. I guess though in todays world that you have to be generic so that you don't affend anyone with your choice of name (thus the name Union High).
  3. What should have happened was a student body vote at both schools. When Rich Valley and R.B. Worthy combined into Northwood we as students had choices to vote on. I don't remember how we got down to those 4 or 5 choices but we did get a say in the name, mascot, and colors.
  4. It's funny what facing all kinds of jail time will make a person do. Lex may have changed but I question his motive behind it.
  5. His ex wife died at Lex Lugers home of a drug OD.
  6. You can bet your ass that if the Roanoke area was hit Mr. Griffith would be fighting for the aid.
  7. Like I said I wish him the best of luck he has a great group of kids to work with.
  8. He will need a whole new staff and I'm not sure that he will get one.
  9. I agree! That's why I say if Mark gets it then he should replace the whole staff of coaches. If he doesn't then I think they will fail. Those kids could miss practice or weightlifting without any punishment. The coaches didn't care if they won so those boys didn't have a chance. My son was a part of that freshman class and I wanted him to remain a Panther but I refused to play the Saltville games. I'm sure a 6'1 275 pound sophmore could have helped them out next year.
  10. No not saying he's not the right guy just saying that the HS program is out of control. That team could have won more games this year but a few parents had a big say so in how the team was run. I do believe that if Mark gets it he will have to get a whole new staff. But as all of us have seen before just because teams are successful at a lower level doesn't always mean that success will be found at that higher level. I wish whoever gets it the best of luck because alot of those kids are near and dear to me.
  11. Yes it is. He's had all kinds of success at the MS level but that HS program is all out of control. It needs someone who is going to make those kids listen and attend weight training and practice. And all the politics need to be taken out of that program as well if it is going to improve. Like I said, whoever gets it has their work cut out for them.
  12. The middle school coach wants it but whoever gets it has their work cut out for them.
  13. I have to disagree. It doesn't matter how good the players are if the coach is not up to par then it will bring the players down to a lower level. My case in point is in 1986 the Smyth Co. school board chose to make Gary "Peaches" Arnold the coach for the new Northwood High School over Dean Rhea. This was the wrong choice as Peaches had lots of talent to work with but didn't do anything with it. While Dean went to Rural Retreat and turned that program into a winner. So it does matter who get's the HC job because it will determine if you win or lose as a program no matter what kind of players you have. I often wonder what kind of program Northwood would have had if Dean would have gotten the job.
  14. Pretty sure Sugar Grove were and still are called the Maple Leafs and green and white is correct on the colors.
  15. I remember we played Garden in basketball when I was still at Rich Valley. Didn't they have carpet in the High School?
  16. No problem, I love talking about the good ole days of the HOGO.
  17. Reid Barr and Oliver Asher were 2 of the best ball players Holston has ever seen. Reid was a QB and Oliver was a workhorse RB. Reid got a full ride to Austin Peay but something happened and I'm not sure how long he spent there. Not sure if Oliver got any offers but in 83 and 84 Holston won the Hogo because of these guys.
  18. Holston has not won the Hogo since 1984 the days of Barr and Asher but they did win the Region C Div.1 title in 08 and 09.
  19. I agree but there's still alot of work to do. Billy was not the biggest problem at NW it was the coaching staff around him and the kids not caring if they won. So if they are to compete they will need to revamp the whole program. I wish my alma mater nothing but the best. I just couldn't play the Saltville politics anymore that's why I chose to move my son elsewhere.
  20. I don't see the Hogo changing, the title will remain along I-81 between Chilhowie and Wytheville for awhile to come.
  21. Middle School always does great and Frye is a good coach. Just not sure if he can coach at the V level. Some coaches can move up and do good while others can only coach at that lower level. And that's been the problem getting those kids to stick together at the V level. Billy tried to get them in the weight room 3 days a week but those kids in Saltville are lazy. Only 5 kids would show up to lift while the other 15 or so ball players were out running around. Those kids need someone who is going to be hard with them and make them commit to the ball program.
  22. Question is who would want it?
