Like the old saying goes.............even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while....... Come back and tell us how good Abingdon is when you win consistently. I have nothing at all against Abingdon, I think it's a great town, but we always hear about how good they are going to be " next year " but next year never comes. I really hope it does sometime. The kids deserve it, and it would make a stronger SWD.

I grew up in a town in Maryland ( Aberdeen ) and played football there from midget league to the 10th grade and moved to Richlands for my last 2 years. ( 76 & 77 ) We had travel midget league teams back in the 60's & 70's up there so I hardly think it's the wave of the future. And as was stated on another post, it's what happens once it get's to the high school level, and Abingdon has not figured that out yet. Maybe one day they will. They do have a lot of good kids there so there's always a chance that they could turn things around. The people just have to get behind the program and let the coaches coach. By the way, very well stated Lance !

I hate to see it come to a end also Lance. I'd say it wont be the end of changes in the district either. More to come in the future. I don't know anything specific, but with most of the schools enrollment dropping there will probably be more teams that will drop to A class. As far as how the district race will go, I'd say that Richlands ( of course I'm going to say that......I'm a blues fan....LOL ) would have to be the favorite with all we have coming back. I think we have 9 coming back on O and 10 on D or it could be the other way around, and as far as qb goes, there are 4 really good kids that could start. Lockhart would probably be the favorite right now, but don't sleep on Vance or Strong. Both are good athletes with good arms and can run. The 4th is a kid that started qb for the jv team last year and is a good athlete also but I don't think he will move in front of the other 3 yet. Devon and Austin will be hard to stop also. Both lines should be very good with size with most back from last year. The D should be very strong, and so will the kicking game with Reece. I also know that the kids in Richlands will be facing a lot of high expectations this year, maybe more than they have the last couple of years. But they deal with high expectations every year so I think the staff will have them ready. As far as the other teams in the district goes, I don't know a whole lot about them so I hope that their fans will fill us in on them. Grundy should be very good with all they have coming back. CC is always strong. I know that Tazewell lost several kids from last year and I have no idea what they have coming up. I also don't know what to expect from Graham, and Abingdon is...... well..........Abingdon. They have talent, but you just don't know what they will bring to the table. As big as that school is, they should be contending for the crown every year. I wish all the teams good luck and I hope that no one has any serious injuries, fans or players !!

Congrats to both young men ! Great to see them go on and get that education, and get to play a little football also....! Should be more to follow them after this coming year !! I really like to see young men ( and young ladies ) get their college education no matter what high school they play for. It's just soooooo important these day's, and if they get to continue to play a little ball while doing so, that's just gravy !!

I played for Richlands back in the 70's and still live here, but I do try to keep up with Tazewell, and do pull for them when not playing us. My daughter lived with my ex up there and was a cheerleader for them. I also got to know a lot of the kids back then and went to all of her games. She graduated in 2001 and went on to UVA and now goes to law school in Miami Fl. Unlike a lot of fans down here I don't hate Tazewell ( or should I say a strong dislike...lol ). I think a strong program up there helps the district and the county, plus the athletic director was my best friend back in high school, but we fell out of touch over the years. Good luck to ya this upcoming season.

I think both will be very good, "if", they stay hungry and continue to work hard ! ( which I think they will ) Hey Bulldogs52, I haven't been able to keep up with the young ones as much as I would like since my back surgery. Does Tazewell have some good young players coming up that we should keep an eye on ?

I'm so sorry to hear that he has passed. He was a great kid and a heck of a competitor! Whether you wear blue & white or green & white or any other colors doesn't matter right now, we are all sorry to loose such a good kid ! What a fighter ! All my prayers and thoughts go out to all of his family and friends and teammates ! RIP TJ !! Bigrhsfan

I'm sure sorry to hear that Bulldog. He's a tough kid so you never know ! I'll sure be praying for him and keep him and his family in our thoughts.

I'd like to see Graham win so Richlands can have another home game in the playoffs "IF" they get by Marion in the 1st game but, I don't think it will happen. Graham has played better the 2nd half of the season and have shown a lot of heart, but that's not going to be enough to beat Cave spring this week. Graham may hold them to under 50 this time, but I don't think their offense can score enough to pull out the game, esp. at Cave Spring. Cave 38 Graham 13

I believe our Johnson's trump your Johnson........LOL ! It should be a great game. I have a lot of respect for the Marion team after watching them at Marion in the first game. But that being said, I believe with it at Ernie Hicks and on turf, the blues have the advantage for sure. I know that Brett Johnson is fast, but Richlands has more over all team speed that will show up on the turf. The Marion QB and esp. the fullback ( can't remember their names ) impressed me the first time around. The fullback runs hard and with heart and the blues will have to plug up the middle. He hurt them up the middle last game. I really think that Marion will have a tough time stopping the blues this time around and the blues win this game 35 to 14. Good luck guys, it should be a lot of fun. Games this time of the year are always fun to watch ! I also hope neither team has any injuries !!

Thanks Nado, I appreciate that. They're doing test right now. I had a stress test yesterday and I have a echocardiogram on the 16th and I'll know more then. I hate to hear that about Pinkston. He was/is a good football player and this has hurt his team and maybe his future as a college ball player. Maybe if this was a one time thing a college may still take a chance on him. Hate to see a kid possibly loose a good future. I hate to say anything else without knowing more about what happen. There's always 2 sides to every story, BUT, there is no excuse for throwing something at a car, if it happen. I hope that's not true.

I really hate to hear that about Cody ! He was a heck of a football player and was well respected ! Hope he gets better and is able to compete in baseball later on. It's a shame to have that kind of injury at his age. Hats off to ya Cody, hope everything turns out ok for ya !!
