no students have left Battle to attend Abingdon. All of the underclassmen from last year, are back this year.

90 and 91 may be the two years you're talking about. That 92-97 Appy teams were a whole different animal. Some of the Older Gate City fans on here will agree with me, I'm sure. BTW.....Those mountain people do go crazy at games...and cheer. If you want the best atmosphere for a HS football game, go to a hyped up game in SWVA. A few hundred of those fans make more noise than the thousands that pack into J Fred. If DB's band decides not to play, that place is dead. Don't get to offensive, as I pull for DB. I have family that plays there now, and have attended a lot of their games the past 4 seasons. I tried to get in touch with a buddy of mine yesterday, he hasn't returned my call yet. The game was at the practice field, not sure why I said J Fred. Hopefully I'll have the video in a day or so.

Thats not what the video shows my friend. Appy did bring a bunch of fans over, but DB in no way wore Appy out. Just admit it, a school with 35 football players and an enrollment of 250 or rolled the tribe. I have a friend who went to school at Appy, I'l be more than happy to see if he can upload that video for you to watch. Maybe it'll refresh some memories.

lol, we have a better chance of finding bin laden this week than those 2. They're in a bunker somewhere, as they know that there will be no stopping the tornado coming through. Sadly, their team still has to show up friday night and take a trip to the woodshed.

Honaker at John Battle. Reason: The BHC predictions are horrible, and the articles are even worse. It's a shame that we cant get the Kingsport times up here. Your predictions are better than both though. The game last year was a good game with Battle jumping out 10-0 before honaker came back to win. Honaker is battle tested from the tough schedule, and Battle is 2-1 for the first time since 1998.

1996,1997,2003 Gate City (The 97 team with Jake Houseright,and Beasley, the 03 team with Spivey, Jones, could hang with any Tennessee teams. 96 Gate city team should have won state with Josh Shoemaker leading the way, however got upset in the semifinals. 1992,1996,1997 Appalachia (scrimmaged DB in 1992..won 42-3 at J-Fred...ask Coach Clark about those Appalachia boys getting out of the back of trucks and whipping his butt. He tells the story pretty good.) 1989,1995,1997 Powell Valley ( The 89 team led by Robbie Duncan and Ricky Webb, 1995 team led by Thomas Jones, and the 1997 team with Julius Jones, Matt McCoy, Davis and to many to mention could all play with anyone in Tennessee.) 04,05,06,10 Richlands.......(look at the records...enough said) If you want to go back even farther.....Back to the days of Harry Fry, Ralph Cummings, Jim Riggs, Ernie Hicks, and so on.......There have been many SWVA teams that could not only compete with the larger tennessee teams, but dominate them. SWVA Teams bring state titles back to the area.......NE Tn teams exit early come playoff time.

this will be a tight ball game. Battle led 10-0 last year and honaker came back to win the game. Battle's passing attack carried them this past week, but we have to find a runningback to replace our injured starter. Our running game was a non factor this past friday. If battle can find a running back to take charge this week, then this game will come down to the wire, if not, then it could be a long night

whats sad...is that he'll still be here claiming that the falcons were robbed, and they're the greatest show on earth. Watch and see. A spades a spade. VHS whipped our butts last week, they were by far the better team. Its over, forgot about, and we've moved on. You'll never hear that out of those 2 though.

LOL, I would argue that the Clinch Mountain District is just as tough. Even though Richlands was much better this year, Gate City and Richlands are pretty even most years, and I'd argue that Lebanon and Virginia High are even with and maybe better than your 2nd/3rd place teams. So don't give me that bullsh*t . VHS will take your falcons to the woodshed in a few weeks. Your district is a 1 team show right now and Richlands is the writer, director, and lead actor of that show. Graham, Grundy, and Tazewell are all good programs, don't get me wrong. I have alot of respect for those programs, and fully expect Graham and Tazewell to rebuild. The 1 thing that your district has on the CMD is depth, however.

That'd be another single A team on your schedule, lol Why not? Of course...the battle series isn't going to end. The coaches agreed to it after the 2008 season, and the school board stepped in and said no way. The board will never let that series go.

You dont have to go a country mile away to find games. Those two teams turned you down because A. You're not a quality opponent , and B. Long Travel. I'm sure if you'll look hard enough, teams like Gate City, Sullivan South, Sullivan North, Daniel Boone, Science Hill, Elizabethon, Tennessee High, Bluefield....Those Teams arent hard to find.....you just have to feel a little froggy. I will give you guys this much though, The county will not let the Abingdon/Battle series end. The school board forced the series to continue after the contract ended 2 years ago. Thats why Abingdon came to Battle 2 years in a row.

lol....no one counts on Abingdon for anything....other than going 4-6 every season. You will not beat Burton, and You will not beat VHS either. You beat PH......We're talking about PH......The PH that Battle defeated last season, and this years PH team is much worse than last.......You beat PH....Who also lost to BLAND!!!!!! ....We're talking about PH...Where the coach is a few more losses from being fired........Where they'll finish the season 0-10 this year.......The Twin Springs team that we defeated...would demolish PH. Once again..We're talking about PH. Get over yourself for once. Abingdon is the same ole 4-6 team they've always been. Burton will OWN you

The two teams stand about 3-4 touchdowns apart.......with Burton having the upper hand.

Richlands- 35 PV-7 Could be much worse, but for some reason I dont believe that Mance will run it up on Robbins. Maybe a little respect there.

lol, maybe the principal and AD at Abingdon should call Camden County and schedule a game since the Camden County coach isn't as qualified as their current head coach. Those cowboy boots would leave permanent boot prints all over their a$$es. Only at Abingdon, could Jeff Herron be turned down for a head coaching job. Most high schools in the country would stop the interview process at that very moment, and announce him as head coach before he ever left the office.

South lost alot of seniors from last years squad and they've faced a very challenging schedule so far. Gate City is good, but I see South taking this game 42-14. I hope I'm wrong though.

I'm right here, and not going anywhere. I've been out of town and havent had a chance to get on here in the past few days. VHS was much more physical on the Offensive and Defensive lines this past Friday. Both teams made mistakes, and the Refs may be the worst crew in the state. The calls weren't lopsided though, they ref's pretty much screwed both teams throughout the game. The bottom Line is that Battle must be more phyiscal on the LOS. The 3 sophmore starters on our O-Line were really exposed in this game. I said all along that the game would serve as a measuring stick, and it showed just how much more work is left to do. I really expected for us to compete in this game, however VHS took over in the 2nd quarter and never looked back. The one thing I will say however...is while our runningback was on the ground with a broken Fibula and Tibula, VHS showed their class. the coaches, players and fans we're celebrating as if they'd just won the state title, even as the player was being carried off of the field. Jerimiah is just about the hardest working, most commited kid you'll ever see. He's a great kid and deserves a lot more respect than that. The play itself wasnt dirty, it was a good football play by the VHS kid, but the celebration went a little far. Stay Classy VHS. As for Abingdon...we'll see you in a few weeks, if theres anything left after that F5 tornado comes through. Just a thought though

Most people with any football knowledge knows that in most cases it takes 4 years to turn a program around. Kids dont get bigger, faster, stronger over night and if the school has had a bad program, the incoming coach usually builds with the freshman and sophmore classes and just hopes to improve the juniors and seniors enough to survive until those young kids grow up. I believe that everyone expected Nick Colobro to walk into Sullivan East,flash his state rings, and win right away....it just doesnt happen that way. Give the man 3-4 years and then we'll see what gives. I can promise this...If Nick Colobro cant win at East..noone can

Does anyone know how many students are in that school? How many students at Twin Valley? It seems like neither school ever has more than 17 or 18 kids out for football.

I hate to break this to you....but Battle and Abingdon are forever on each others schedule. The series was ended before last season, and the school board told both schools that the decision wasn't up to them....that the schools have no choice but to play each other. The politics of washington co. But wait..dont back out on us now that we're finally getting our program on track. We owe the falcons a few beat downs in the next couple of years.
