  1. I have been an active reader of the posts placed on this board. I rarely every post anything. But I have to say that on ANY GIVEN FRIDAY NIGHT any team can win. Its about desire and execution. Every paper matchup goes out the window. The winner of this game will take advantage of big plays and have less turnovers. Both teams are very good. The strength of schedule, this year goes to the Blues. But that isn't to take anything away from the Falcons. Richlands was down to VHS at the end of the first quarter and then they double teamed Sewell, he still scored 14 points in the game. Sewell didn't score against Abingdon and was single man coverage. Everyone keeps talking about the points scored in the Graham game... or should I say the points allowed. Abingdon had a 24 point advantage and made wholesale changes and put their second and third team defense in to keep from getting players injured. The G-Men scored 14 points on those defenses. A 24 point advantage would look a lot different at the end of the game instead of 10. When teams reach the caliber of Richlands, Union and now Abingdon, everyone brings their big gun to aim at them. Everyone wants to knock them off. Any Given Friday! Tonight's game should be a great game for the area. Large crown, big hipe, and when 11 young men strap it on that's when it will be settled. No matter who wins this game, the two programs will be representing this end of the state in the playoffs. Let's hope for no injuries and a great game to watch.
  2. I think there should be a bunch of people here that needs to eat a lot of crow. That was one hell of a one sided football game. Abingdon controlled the line of scrimmage. The Abingdon QB was not sacked but the Micheals kid was sacked several times and rushed/hit more. I know there will be people here that will still bitch about Abingdon, but Abingdon won the game fair and square and the game plan was very well executed. It is time for some here to quit the Abingdon bashing for a while.
  3. Cant get a proven coach when only 5 apply. The 4 assistants and Reed. I wouldn't want to be a coach and enter the political BS in Abingdon. Look what they are doing to the baseball coach now. I do believe that the football team is taking steps backwards, not forward. I hope the political machine in Abingdon are happy with what they got. Bowles may not have been a perfect coach, but I will bet he was better than what they are getting.
  4. The call was in error. Marrs went ahead and ran a 3rd down play before calling the refs on it. If he had objected at the start, then he would have gotten his first down. He told the refs that he was working on something and thought they gave him the first down. The refs did make a bad call. One of many that I have seen this year. I agree that the refs should be paid more. And trained properly.
  5. I attended the AHS Tazwell game... Shaq did not impress me. #67 for Abingdon man handled him all night.
  6. Abingdon does not talk about the foes badly... only one or two on this do this. I have been reading this BS for two years.... And I find that one or two kids do the trash talking from Abingdon... but then again, there is one or two from Marion, Tazwell, Grundy, so on. So do not label everyone building a program up or destroying one. If you participate in replying back to the people doing this... then you encourage it!
  7. I thought there may be some good information on this site, but I was surprised to see administrators of the site and others participating in the childish behavior. This is supposed to be informative, but the only thing that happens on this site is pick on one or two that voice, sometimes ridiculus, thoughts. Why not try for once the effort... Lance, you are supposed to be an administrator and monitor the abuse on the site, but instead, you participate in the bantor. I am a fan of all things SWVA, football, basketball, baseball... sports and the area in general. Let's make this positive so that people read information that you may have that the news media does not post, instead of the abuse that keeps going out to certain individuals. Talk is cheap, but get one thing straigt.... every team, every player, and every fan cannot win every game.
  8. Agreed.... The age of Xbox has taken over...
  9. This game will not be close. It will be decided by the coaches and there will only be one. GC by 40
  10. I guess I have to get into this one as well.... I come from a very small SWVA football program. One year we had 19 players on the team, but still made the playoffs. So, numbers do not matter to a point. What is wrong with Abingdon Football is heart... Like someone said, there are 900+ kids in the school, but only 35 varsity players come out, up and coming seniors quit... What is wrong with Abingdon Football is the town does not support them, the school does not support them and they get 11 starters from 35 and start 10th graders because they don't have the depth. Until the community gets behind the coach and the program, it will not grow to everyones expectations. As to bragging on this forum. I see more Marion and other schools putting Abingdon down, that Abingdon people bragging. Abingdon was taught a lesson last week. A valuable lesson. Really good programs and teams come prepared to play and make changes when necessary. It will be interesting to see what happens, what changes have been made. So, everyone needs to stop the trash talking... and let the play on the field show what they have. It doesn't matter what sport it is from Football to Swimming. Good Luck every team... And remember that every play could be your last play. The team at Sullivan South can attest for that.
  11. Some of the comments here must be coming from the Comedy Barn at Pigeon Forge. Richlands showed that their coaches watched Abingdon's film and saw that they run the same offensive and defensive sets and do not change. Changes have to be made every Monday. Richlands radio was calling the Abingdon play when Abingdon was breaking the huddle, they watched the films too. Adjustments were not made. Coaching also plays a big role in tackling. Have to do tackling every day. Abingdon fell for the "juke" and reached for the tackles. Richlands has some talent in some positions. But they were prepared by their coach and executed well. After two scores, Abingdon quit and made it a lot easier. Two loses for Abingdon, and bad play calling and not being prepared caused both. Richlands plays the way they did Friday night for the rest of the season, it will be another SWD and playoff bound team.
  12. You know, people keep talking about scrimmages and jamboree's like they are meaningful games. People are played in positions that they may not be normally. You see something in two weeks of practice, but in game situations the player does not work out there. The scrimmages do not mean a thing. As for Gate City, they were a good football team... but let's put some things here that did not get stated. Abingdon wanted to warm up like a game, gate city was warming up on the baseball field. Abingdon started off tight and not warmed up.. so result was the first play a long touchdown. Abingdon has the potential to play with any team here. THey lost to JIB because of play calling. 6 trips inside the 30 with no points. Can't win like that. Abingdon beat JIB everywhere except the scoreboard. No, forget about the second week of practice ohhh I mean scrimmages and get on with game time. That was a month ago. Now with Richlands... THey have a decent team. It is not equal to what they have had in the past and Abingdon has played with them. I believe the game will be decided late in the forth quarter.
  13. Just so everyone knows. I went to this game. The game was closer than the scoreboard shows. The first half, JIB only had one play that crossed the 50 yard line. Abingdon in the game had 6 trips inside the 30 yard line, (two turnovers on downs, two turn overs and two missed field goals). What lost this game was bad play calling . JIB was/is fast, but they could not stop the run. It was when Abingdon was forced to pass against a speedy defensive backs that created the long yardage. On two 4th and 5's, the same quick pass was called with both the same results... no gain. That was the difference maker. JIB made the efforts and capitalized on missed opportunities. So, the game was very exciting until 2 minutes to go, then the hand writing was flying like a banner behind the falcons. I do believe though, that Abingdon will give Richlands a very close decent game. They do match up very well.... but the play calling has to improve.
