  1. For single A fans it should be Salem. For AA fans it should be Liberty in Lynchburg.
  2. They were much better than last year. They have an athletic team with 2 decent QBs. The better Qb is also their best receiver so I am not sure which one they will use.
  3. This might be a fun Benefit Game. I saw both during the 7 on 7 season. Richlands should be the better team but Bassett is improved and they are playing like a more aggressive team than last year. One word of caution though, This Bassett team like to trash talk alot while playing. I'm sure Richlands is structured enough to deal with it but an ejection in this game carries over into the season.
  4. Just for the fun of it I thought I would enter the inflatable avatar wars.
  5. 10 years from now when Southbound and Falconman are still playing for the falcons I think they will have grown on us enough that we will begin to love them.
  6. Note to Richlands fans: Cave Spring was manhandled by Floyd in their scrimmage Friday. In years past Cave would score 10 times and hold Floyd to zero or one.
  7. In all my years of watching H S football I have seen a band or two that played defense (Cal band comes to mind) but I have never seen the band score a single point much less 89 or 90. Sounds like some very athletic bands.
  8. Sorry but the larger the town the less interaction it has with it's schools. Try asking someone in Richmond who the better teams are.
  9. If it was determined that a team was using an ineligible/recruited player the punishment in the past has been for the offending team to offer a forfeit for ANY game the ineligible player played in. This seems to happen at least a few times every year when teams start jockeying for playoff spots. No administration is going to admit that they are recruiting unless someone dangles hard-core undeniable proof (such as video or verifiable emails)
  10. Pulaski was not techically "busted" by the VHSL. They self-reported the incident to the VHSL because a tape was floating around the River Ridge District that showed out of season drills being conducted. The VHSL does not have an enforcement branch. They rely on self reporting. I would expect that someone has called them in reference to recruiting but unless an administrator turns in their own staff I doubt we will hear anything more than rumors.
  11. Midnight Madness maybe? Teams can go to full pads on Saturday and many are doing intra squad scrimmages. Sounds like they got a jump start by doing their just after midnight.
  12. Thanks for posting. I agree. Div 4 Begins and ends with Briar Woods.
  13. It would be hard to argue Richlands any lower than 6th. The teams that are below them do not strike me as being close to the same level. I expect that even if Richlands drops off alot from last year they will still win the region based on the other teams being poor. I like Kettle Run in the east and Northside in the west. Brookville has their QB back but lost some studs off their lines. I cannot root for JM. They have a severe lack of discipline and rotten attitudes as displayed in the state game last year. Plus they lost the stud RB and still have a horrible throwing QB they can't seem to find a replacement for. Monticello has a great offense but couldn't stop a rec team on defense.
  14. Alot of ex-Cougar coaches coaching elsewhere. Apparently Coach Jones has a very micro-managing style that has led many to pursue coaching for other teams.
  15. There is articles for Div 3 top 10 and Div 4 top 10 on Va Preps. I cannot see the Div 4 list because it is in the pay section but I do know the Div 3 top 10. 1. Brookville 2. James Monroe 3. Kettle Run 4. Monticello 5. Northside 6. Richlands 7. Cave Spring 8. Western Albemarle 9. Rockbridge Co. 10. Park View (South Hill) HM Martinsville, Poquoson, York, Rustburg and Skyline. Patrick Mauney (Aka Great State) compiles the list for VaPreps and seems to go a good job of making these polls. I have to disagree with Cave Spring being at #7 because they lost 95% of the offense that touched the ball last year. Honestly I think it will come down to the winner of Brookville and Northside in the Region 3 championship. The winner of this game will win state IMO
  16. Arrive on time is only half the battle. If Southbound and Abingdon travels to Hidden Valley instead of Happy Valley TN it won't matter if they are late or not.
  17. At the risk of offending the Blue Tornado faithful I will give my honest unbiased opinion for this years team. Based on seeing Richlands at Marshall last year and RE Lee this year I will say that Richlands will be a different team. (I know a 7on7 is not the best indicator but it's all I have to go on.) Last year I thought they looked more confident throwing the ball and had a few more athletes on the field. I think this years team will be coached well enough to avoid losses in the regular season but I think the point spreads will be closer. With that said I believe Richlands has more room for error this year. Cave Spring looks more like a 5-5 or 4-6 team and Martinsville was miles behind the top two last year year. Even if Richlands loses a game or two they will still host the Region IV title game and I think they will win it easily based on the competition in the region. Having to travel to Roanoke or Lynchburg for the State Semifinals could be the end of the road for this team but anything can happen when you get to the final four.
  18. Lance, There needed to be enough teams to make it a Qualifier. James Monroe and Cave Spring backed out at the last minute leaving only 5 teams. Coach Tibbs volunteered his JV Squad (Hence the 2 R E Lee teams) and asked Northside and Rockbridge to help in order to get the minimum so that somebody would be able to go to the National if they wanted to. Would have sucked for Richlands to drive all that way and have it not qualify as a Qualifier. Northside was headed to the 7on7 at UVA but changed plans to help out Coach Tibbs with the qualifier. I thought it was kinda cool of them.
  19. Thanks for the update Blue Razor. Certainly sounds like a tough kid. I was on the upper field when Coach Mance came running up looking for the medical guys to help. Never a good thing to hear but I'm glad he's ok. I hope Richlands does well at the National. Northside is gonna pass on going and I doubt Heritage will go so it may be up to Richland to carry the flag for Virginia. They have alot of work to do to be ready for that type of competition but either way it should be a good experience for them.
  20. Not sure what caused the fight. It was on the lower field where I couldn't see. The ref said that one of the teams scored and the defender wasn't happy. He said he was standing in the middle of the pile trying to pull bodies off of each other. LOL I think it was Harrisonburg that scored but I'm not sure. We could hear the ruckus but couldn't see it. Anybody have an update on the Richlands kid that dislocated his elbow in that game? It didn't sound like a good injury to have but I hope he will be ok.
  21. Saw Richlands at the R. E. Lee 7 0n 7 National Qualifier in Staunton today. There were 7 teams there. Heritage (Lynchburg), Rockbridge Co, Harrisonburg, Northside, Richlands and 2 R E Lee teams. Richlands went 4-2 with wins over both Lee teams, Rockbridge Co and Harrisonburg (which included a bench clearing fight according to one of the refs LOL) The two losses were to Heritage and Northside (Who went undefeated and won the tournament).
  22. Purely coincidental. I admit that the discussion came to mind by seeing it on the other post but my knowledge of the 12 or so kids in the Roanoke area that are transferring is more of what I am referring to. I follow the AA ranks in the state and honestly couldn't have told you if Graham was 0-10 or 10-0. I know of 4 kids that left a Roanoke City school because they feel like the program was merely providing babysitting services rather than coaching them to play football. 2 more left another school when the coach refused to do combines because he isn't paid for doing them. Of course there are a few that left when they realized they wouldn't be starters at the position they wanted rather than working to take the spot. I'm just saying that it is not always "recruiting" and crybaby traitors although I know it is in some cases.
  23. The scenario I gave is not in regards to any particular situation involving any particular schools. I do not know the kid that is transferring to Richlands or why he is no longer at Graham. I also do not know the coach at Graham or what his work ethic is or what his connections are. Please don't think that I am taking jabs at Graham because I have no axe to grind with them.
  24. I agree that a D1 potential kid will be found no matter where he plays. But the kid that is hoping to get some help from E&H or William & Mary needs a coach with connections and a coach that cares enough to put in the legwork to get them noticed.
  25. Gman, I admit that I know zero specifics about the kid and the schools you are referring to and many times kids do want to transfer because daddy thinks they are the next Michael Vick and the coach won't run the offense daddy wants them to. But some parents and some kids want to be where their efforts have the best chance to be rewarded.
