  1. This game may be closer than a lot of fans think, but the Blues just have too much overall talent to lose, if they play up to their capabilities. Close, but no cigar for Bluefield. In rival games, you just never know what to expect. The Butterflies have a field day.
  2. It is very clear that these two teams don't like each other. I remember back in the 80's when Rhea was head coach at RR. The score would get out of hand, with RR leading, and some fist starting flying. We certainly do not want that to happen friday, so lets remember its just a game. I expect an emotional game, with it going down to the wire. If P H can contain the line of scrimmage and let Humphrey do his thing, PH just might pull it out. For this to happen, four players on PH defense will have to have to play hard; both D tackles and the two D middle LB's by penetrating that line and forcing the RR QB into some mistakes.Pressure on the QB all night, other wise RR wins.
  3. Just like I said last week about the Tazewell game, RR will come at you with that veer, and run it down your throat over and over again, then hit you with the air attack when your tired. Best chance PH will have is to keep the ball every possession if possible. RR may start slow, but they always finish strong. This game means a lot because of points in A1West for the winner. If I am PH, I would ride Humphrey as much as possible. In other words, It will come down to line play, and which team has the ball last and make the fewest mistakes.
  4. Thank you for your insight. Is either one under contract by the school, and can one that donates somewhat of a large sum of monies to the schools every year have any say in their employment? I just give, and don't ask any questions.
  5. How much longer do the tax payers of the Great Commonwealth of Virginia have to put up with such embarrassment ? This may not be the proper thread to post such a topic, but I did, so if I made a mistake please forgive.
  6. Marion should pick up Bland and the Cove. But that would mean they would have to travel to Scott Co and get on I-81 and I-77 to get to Bland. Man just think of the diesel fuel those big ole yellow buses would use. But wait! Diesel fuel cost is down now, so what excuse could be used for joining the Hogo. What is the price of air that goes in the tires or the carbuerator. Has air gone up recently? Please, someone say it has, anyone, please!
  7. You know Va High will try .to slow this game down, and limit Blues possessions. I see Cats trying to establish some type of running game, and limit Blues TOP. VA High has the players to make the big play, and force Blues into some type of catch up game. Turn overs may play an important role in this one. If you have the ball, you best do something with it. Could be entertaining.
  8. RR is no Chilhowie. RR is solid on both O & D. They will come at you, and try to wear you down, with that veer.Dawgs better learn how to stop it, because ball control is their game plan. When you go to sleep with the ground attack, hear comes the air game.Dawgs best plan is to try to convert on 3rd down.Keep the ball!
  9. I have a Big Red bridge I would like to sell the person that beleives that Marion is in the Hogo for travel reasons. Northwood travels to Buchanan Co alot, and Chilhowie plays schools outside the I-81 travel corridor on a regular bases, and I hear no complaints from them about finance cost. Marion is in the Hogo simply to win games against smaller schools. Marion does not want to compete with schools their size, day in and day out. That is what citizens think and believe. Politics got them in the Hogo, and everyone knows that. Marion's entrance into the league was voted down several times by the Hogo, but Marion would not let up, and appealed the decision several times until the Sad VHSL gave in. It is not fair to either Marion or schools like Holston for Marion to be in the Hogo. A lot of folks consider Marion in the Hogo as a joke. Marion should be playing schools their size. The county just opened a 20 million dollar school for Marion just outside the boundary of Chilhowie students. Go figure that move, and give me a break!
  10. Yes, you have a valid point. Marion would be best suited for the SW District. Marion has 660 students, way more than any school in the Hogo. The other schools are only around 300 to 400. But Marion keeps losing enrollment every year. Marion will have to move the boundary lines again, to make up for their loss in enrollment each year. Marion will take students from Chilhowie or Northwood in order to maintain their enrollment at around 660. They have the votes on the school board to do that, and they will, just like they did with Sugar Grove. SG had the choice of going to Chilhowie or Marion, but the school board mandated that all students attend Marion. It's Marion looking after Marion, at the expense of the smaller schools. Marion tries everything they can to maintain their size, but people just don't want to live in Marion. Folks prefer Abingdon, Wytheville, or even Chilhowie to Marion, and this just eats the crap out of Marion who tries everything known to man to promote the town. But little or no growth has occurred in Marion, but give them credit for trying. It's all politics. Marion is not going to grow much, if any. They are just trying to maintain, at the expense of their neighbors. Sad, but that is just the way it is in Smyth County.
  11. I like the chance that Union and Richlands will meet again, but when? If this happens I just don't see Richlands losing to Union twice in one year. These two teams are the class of SWVA football, period. It has the makings of an historic game of the ages. We are talking a game that is like VT and Miami teams of the 80's.
  12. This may make some people sick, but 3 Hogo teams could finish 1-9. If Marion beats Holston, and Holston beats Chilhowie and no other wins occur by the three teams, you have the possibility of the three worst teams in SWVA. Not something to think about if you are a Hogo fan. Thank God for GW.
  13. Just like I said, Dawgs by 2 TD's. Start listening guys,,............ Not sure but I don't think Dawgs had a 4th down, or they did not punt! Chilhowie is very weak, but played sometimes as many as 7-8 FRESHMAN A lot, so future may look better in a few years for Chilhowie if all this losing Don't get them psyced out.
  14. Abingdon and Blacksburg will be close in 1st half, but Falcon's pull away in 2nd half. Interesting note on Abingdon's young QB Jake Sturgill, Jake has relatives in two football towns in SWVA, Haysi and Chilhowie. Not bad, not bad at all.
  15. Two facts that these teams have in common, and no one can deny. Both teams first to letters begin with Ho. Other than that, Honaker wins by 40+. Ho. Ho. Ho.
  16. Tazewell picks up win #1 this week at Chilhowie, and Chilhowie want win again until they play Holston, their last game. Both teams are Pretty weak, but Chilhowie's loss to Twin Springs was worse than Tazewell's loss to Grayson. Warriors may be one of the worst teams in SWVA again this year. Dawgs by two td's, and Dawgs will find someone to fill in for Brewster.
  17. Great to see Abingdon with a very good football team this year. I see Marion fans are down this year. Marion comes up with a good team once every 10 years, so they have nine more to go after this year. Get use to it Canes. Heck, they can't even beat Northwood or a bad Chilhowie team! Go Birds!!!!
  18. My take on Hogo 2015 put GW at the head of the class. No body in the Hogo will come close to their talent, speed, athletes, and size. GW will dominate the league again. Second place will probably go to Marion. Even with all the talent lost to graduation, Marions enrollment will make up for that, being twice the size of the other schools, Marion will beat everyone else in the district. Hey, that is why Marion wanted in the league, to beat up on the smaller schools for a winning record each year. Third place will probably go to RR. The Indians are never a push over, and I expect RR to be pretty good this year also. Forth place.....PH. With Humpheries back, if PH can come up with a decent O Line, PH will be hard to handle. NW has some very good athletes coming back, and will give some teams a fit on any Friday night. Hoston lost a lot, but don't sell the Cavs short. Like NW, Hoston will be capable of beating you if you take them lightly. That leaves Chilhowie. The Warriors have lost 8 games in a row, plus 3 games this year. Folks in Chilhowie are not used to all this losing, but the Warriors are staring a 0-10 year in the face for 2015.Get used to it Chilhowie, it ain't going to get any better until you get a winning attitude and pride back in your huddle. Best of luck to each team!
  19. Thanks Redtiger! If you support the Wolfpack like you did the Tigers for so many years, the Wolfpack will Have a darn great fan and supporter. Thanks, and I will try my best to get to the game. Please keep us all Posted on the Pack this season, and God Bless!
  20. Everyone in Dickenson Co should be proud of this new school.I wish you much success. My Question is how do you get there if I decide to go to the Football scrimmage. Where is it located In Dickenson Co?
  21. Top Ten 1A Pre Season Football Teams 2015 in SWVA 1.Galax 2. Fort Chiswell 3. J I Burton 4. George Wythe 5.Honaker 6.Eastside 7.Patrick Henry 8.Castlewood 9.Rural Retreat 10. Twin Springs Top Ten 2A/3A pre Season Football Teams 2015 in SWVA 1. Richlands 2. Abingdon 3.Gate City 4. Union 5. Ridgeview 6. Lee 7.Central 8. VA High 9. Marion 10. Grayson Co Rankings not based on anything but my guesses, and wishing Football season started next week! P.S. Picking 10 teams for each division is not easy. Should have done just 5 or 6 teams...............
  22. Just a few thoughts on 2015 from the Hogo District. Looks like George Wythe will dominate the Hogo. GW is loaded with skill and speed again, and their line looks solid on both sides of the ball. Marion will be down, The Big RED lost a lot, but will beat the smaller 1A schools in the Hogo. Rural Retreat lost quite a bit, but I see them being able to compete. Their schedule is tough. PH lost quite a bit, but they have the best RB back in the Hogo. Northwood lost a lot of linemen and skill, so they will be hard pushed to be as good as last year. Holston also lost quite a few good players, so they will be down a little. Chilhowie lost all their backs, and several linemen on both sides on the ball from a 1-9 team, so I don't see them winning many games, if they will win any games at all. Just my early on take on the Hogo for 2015. Who knows, there may be some surprises down the road. Looking forward to 2015 Football in SWVA.
  23. Anybody have a score on Science Hiil - Maryville game??? Sorry truBlu just now saw your post.thanks
  24. Now let's see; Marion is from the " weak " Hogo, but somehow is rated "good", along with George Wythe, who no one what's to play in the 1A west playoffs. Now, having said that, Union should win by at least 21. Whoever plays GW in A1should not have any problems with the 2012 VHSL CHAMPS either, because both have played a weak schedule and play in the Hogo. This is the logic I hear a lot, so I guess that Union should not even practice this week, and prepare for their last regular season game. Good luck to both teams and to whoever plays GW in the A1 west. HS Football is a fun game to forecast in SWVA.
