  1. I have talked to a couple people since posting this and it seems as if it is more precautionary than serious.
  2. Galax 64 Holston 7 Final Jordan Vaughan left the game with an injury in the 2nd quarter and did not return.
  3. Galax 21 Holston 0 Start of 2nd qtr.
  4. His name was Hank Gathers and he played at Loyola Marymount. Great teams with a great head coach in Paul Westhead.
  5. I thought it was the best 30 for 30 yet. Can you believe the idiot that poisoned the Oak Trees at Auburn. He named one kid Crimson Tide, another Bear Bryant and wanted to name his daughter Ally Bama and his wife said hell no! Like sports, love life. That's taking it WAY too seriously.
  6. I agree. He wont get any publicity given the positions he plays and he is not a flashy player but I guarantee opposing coaches want to know where he is on the field all the time.
  7. Jacob Fisher lives a few houses down the street from me and walks to school every day. I live a block from the high school. I find it hard to believe but don't know for certain about where Fisher went to school in 5th or 6th grade but he transferred into Galax from a school near Fayetteville, NC. I don't know where Jordan lives but his older brother also played sports at Galax in the mid to late 90's and is a current city police officer. Conner Lundy lives in West Galax and attended Galax schools through 8th grade. West Galax falls inside the city limits but is in the Grayson County voting district and the opposite side of Galax from Carroll, where he attends. With all of this said, it is all a mute point since all the kids mentioned are legal to play sports at their respective schools. Galax is an independent city and falls on the border between Grayson and Carroll Counties. The only point I was trying to make was Galax could have had some more great athletes on an already loaded team.
  8. http://roanoke.com/timesland/roster.aspx?tid=60&school=125352&syid=7 This one is not very accurate I don't believe but the only one I found. I am 6' tall and he is an inch, maybe 2 taller than me. As for weight, I would guess 205-210 would be very accurate. Edit to add...Frankie also placed very highly (4th I believe) in the state wrestling tournament last winter in his first year ever wrestling.
  9. I said the same thing 6 weeks ago on another thread on this site. He may be the best FOOTBALL PLAYER in the MED. His name is Frankie Shalabi and he is a beast. On a side note, how stacked COULD this Galax team be. Salem QB Matt Hill, Grayson RB Xavier Rodriguez and Carroll QB Conner Lundy were all Galax students just a couple of years ago.
  10. I did the associates degree program through the Virginia Community College System and then went into a four year program. It was seamless and greatly reduced costs as VCCS is much cheaper than any four year institution. I was able to work a full time schedule while completing my education. It was not easy but nothing worthwhile is. Also, don't hesitate to check out the community colleges in the Triangle area. There will be a lot more opportunity their to work with a very supportive company while going to school.
  11. The total wins of both teams opponents are fairly even. MED competition is a wash as they have to play those teams. Radford and Clintwood are both 7-2, Chilhowie and Glenvar are both 5-4, Craig and East Mont are both 3-6, Alleghany (2-9) and Carroll (2-7) are even. The only real difference in schedule is Grayson beat Rural Retreat who is 8-1 and Galax beat Floyd who is 2-7.
  12. Glenvar is 5-4 and Radford is 7-2. Fort Chiswell was 3-2 at the time of the game.
  13. Just a thought but my opinion is Galax has the edge in athletes, experience and coaching. Galax by 17.
  14. http://www.dailypress.com/sports/teel-blog/dp-teel-time-notre-dame-considering-full-conference-membership-says-former-irish-ad-acc-commissioner-corrigan-20111026,0,7637373.story
  15. Good catch, I posted the wrong pdf. This is as of April 2010. http://www.vhsl.org/files/rr-2011-13-final-plan-adopted.pdf
  16. http://www.vhsl.org/files/rr-adoptedplan-09-11.pdf Again, here are the official VHSL numbers for varsity eligible students per school, broken down by classification, region and district. I missed Lee's numbers when I looked the first time.
  17. Carroll County will be hurt by this as well but not as badly as Abingdon. Carroll would have to decide whether to go east to the Piedmont District or north to the River Ridge District. In my opinion though, I don't see VHSL allowing Marion to move to group A. The listed enrollment for Marion is 821 on here. http://www.vhsl.org/files/rr-adoptedplan-09-11.pdf On a side note, VHSL.org has the minutes posted for the latest realignment and reclassification committee meeting. In the minutes, a straw vote was taken on moving to a four classification system. http://www.vhsl.org/files/rr-minutes-2011-september.pdf
  18. http://www.roanoke.com/pdfs/prepfbstats1014.pdf This does not include much outside the Roanoke Times coverage area but does give some area teams.
  19. Hasn't the Narrows team already been banned from the Montgomery County league where Pembroke and the other Giles County teams play?
  20. Mikey Rodgers from Grayson. If Deion George is #1, Rodgers should be 1-A.

Galax also has some strong talent coming up from a JV team that was something like 20-2 last year. They are loaded again and with the strength and conditioning programs in place from Mark Dixon in all sports, they will contend at the state level again.

    Top 5

Give a little love to Jordan Vaughan on this one. He is averaging almost 10 yards per carry for the season. If that is not enough, he is averaging over 8 yards per carry for his career. Oh, and by the way, he has started at Galax since he was a freshman. Don't punish this kid because the team has so much depth.
