  1. It’s definately a head scratcher. His 5-35 career record doesn’t scream competence as a head coach. He did double his best single season win total last year though. Carroll went 2-8! By all indications, he is a great person though, so there’s that. By the way Ryan, it was a pleasure to meet you the other night.
  2. The Cubs released Grimm today. He will help improve the bullpen somewhere. I wish him nothing but the best. I hate the business of baseball but love the Cubs giving him the opportunity to move on before the end of spring training.
  3. Beginning to look like Justin Grimm is auditioning for someone else. I will forever be grateful for his contributions, especially his performance in game 3 of the 2016 World Series. He is out of minor league options and costs $2 million more than Dillon Maples. Grimmer isn’t likely to make the opening day roster and will be DFA’d.
  4. I believe the fault lies with me. Had I read it a bit more thoroughly, I would have seen the football team being undefeated and hanging out in Monroe Park. The later being something no sane human being would attempt under any circumstances! Maybe the renovations will remedy the issues in that area. The park has been closed and fenced off for 2 years.
  5. I'm gonna have to disagree Liam. Several family members in school at VCU in recent year. And my wife works for the state and is always there. https://spotcrime.com/va/richmond/carver Carver is the neighborhood directly to the north of the Siegel Center between Marshall, Leigh, Lombardy and Belvedere. College kids getting robbed and beaten down in droves.

  7. Well, there you go. I was able to help you again!
  8. Well, I guess it's good I'm not selling anything! For future consideration, you can hit the enter button to begin a new paragraph instead of posting three enlightening posts back-to-back-to-back. At least that way, you don't junk the board up with mindless post after mindless post of you having a conversation with yourself.
  9. Why is that unreasonable? Spring ball starts in February and runs through May. That's a half-dozen games over the course of a weekend, every weekend, for 12 weeks. 12 x 6 = 72 games! The summer season begins as the spring season is concluding. The difference between the summer season and the spring season, more teams equal more games. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, another dozen games per weekend for 15 weeks. 15 x 12 = 180 games! Fall ball begins a week or so after the beginning of the school year, which is typically the day after Labor Day in Charlotte. Not much winter weather down there. From early September through the final tournament, which is Thanksgiving weekend in Myrtle Beach. Another half-dozen games per week for another 12 weeks. 12 x 6 = 72 games! 72 + 180 + 72 = 324 games. Anything else I can help you with Doofus!
  10. I don't recall anyone suggesting otherwise!?!?! But in our "Little League Dad" society, kids are often compelled to specialize at far too young an age. Especially in larger, more populated areas of the country. Like my nephew, who loves baseball but grew to view it as a chore that had to be completed rather than a game he enjoyed playing.
  11. A former coworker of nearly a decade moved to Staunton in 2016 to take care of his mother after his father passed away. He has kept me up to speed on the state of athletics in the Shenandoah region. He says Lee isn’t the same caliber team they were last season. I trust his opinion. Gate City going away!
  12. I believe it was Glavine. He spoke about how he snuck onto the hockey rink as a profession baseball baseball player. He was also drafted into the NHL.
  13. I read a book a few years ago by Michael Jordan’s personal trainer during his playing career. He credited Jordan’s regular participation in several sports for his longevity. He believes playing multiple sports works different areas of the body while not overworking them. I don’t fault my brother. He never forced my nephew to play. But in Charlotte, it’s rare for a kid to not specialize.
  14. While I agree with what you guys are saying, there is a fine line. A 10 week little league season isn't sufficient in order to keep up with what everyone else is doing. Travel ball is also an amazing experience if under the proper guidance and leadership. But you can burn a kid out if you're not careful. My brother lives in the Charlotte area. His son is an avid baseball fan and loved to play. My nephew played, on average, 300 games per year from age 5 through this past summer. He is now 13 and isn't remotely interested in playing baseball anymore. It wasn't a lack of talent or ability. He was the starting catcher (just like his uncle was) and top of the order bat for a team that won close to 80% of the games they played from Virginia to Florida. Joe Gibbs grandson and Colin Cowherd's son were members of the team so, it was well organized, well funded, with the best coaching those guys could provide. My nephew just wanted something else out of life. To my brother's credit, he had a conversation with my nephew about falling behind if he doesn't continue and would likely never be able to catch back up. My brother let his son make the decision for himself. My nephew hasn't played since November.
  15. Honest assessment not influenced by fandome. I like it! I agree, if Gate City plays as a unit the way they did against Radford, Gate City wins a close game. If they do not, Graham will win going away as they did last week.
  16. PGA Tour player JB Holmes played on the varsity golf team at his high school in Kentucky from 3rd grade through graduation.
  17. Hayward has an option in his contract after this season. Either party can opt out of the final 3 years. The Cubs wouldn’t overspend to bring Arrieta back. The market sets up nicely for Harper to come to Wrigley. Don't underestimate the Under Armour connection either. UA is the apparel provider and stadium sponsor for the Cubs. Even have UA logos in the Ivy.
  18. Here kitty, kitty, kitty!!!!! Like I said several times, Radford struggles guarding length! But, hey, we’re all entitled to our opinions. Even if yours was wrong. Hope you come back!
  19. Harper will join Bryant, Epstein and company in the Windy City next season!
  20. I think the Cubbies have found a leadoff hitter. Ian Happ is 5-10 with 3 HR and 5 RBI from the leadoff spot in 4 spring training games. Took Madison Bumgarner deep to lead the game off the other day.
  21. Mooresville High School is just shy of having 2,000 students. No comparison indeed!
  22. Gate City has failed to score 70 only 3 times in 29 games and you're suggesting "high 50's". Wow! Lofty goals, I like that! I know I will be here even if Radford wins. Will you have to onions to come back if they don't?
  23. I should also point out, Grayson may have been 22-4 but they only played 9 games against competition above the 1A level. Of those 9 games, only three came this year! Fort Chiswell twice and Union in the playoffs. Grayson, hopefully, learned a valuable lesson. Playing weaker competition doesn't prepare you to beat Radford or Union come February.
