The game was in late September and Galax did improve quite a bit since that time.  If that game would have been later in the season, I believe the score would have been much similar to last year but the result would still be an Altavista victory.  I can see an argument being made where Galax suffered from "bus lag" much like Clintwood did in that Grayson game.  I was at the Grayson/Clintwood game and the Galax/Clintwood game that season.  The Clintwood team that played Galax in Salem was nowhere near the team that laid an egg at Grayson.  Was it travel fatigue?  Who knows for certain.  
 
Galax wasn't manhandled like you would think given a 56-7 score.  Altavista scored on a pick-six, fumble and kickoff return.  They continually got a short field due to Galax inability to punt the football with any consistency. Galax was thoroughly outplayed on special teams.

You beat me to it sixcat. The crowd was LOUD and it definitely had a impact. If you ask me the Left Guard moved early every play he pulled. Could have called at least 5 more false starts in the first half imo.  
 
Take 9 of the penalties away(those cant be argued) and you are left with 3 for Galax and 3 for Haysi.

I can assure you Galax has nothing but respect for both schools and communities.  Galax was eliminated rather emphatically by Honaker (2012) and Haysi (2013) each of the past two years.  The folks that we met in both communities were nothing but gracious, courteous, welcoming and helpful in offering directions, places to eat and inviting us to tailgate along side them.  This is the very reason I have stated before, I would love to see Galax schedule more old Region D opponents in all sports in the future for no other reason than the wonderful people you meet along the way.

How original RP, those of us from Galax have never heard that one before!  Did you come up with that all by yourself?

Truer words have never been spoken. Especially when the team is 5 hours from home, its cold, muddy and there is the constant sound of the largest crowd youve ever played in front of.

Quick history lesson...from 1984-1991 Central Lunenburg had an 81 game regular season win streak, athletes running out their ears, great coaching, and a fan base that travelled well and supported them everywhere they went to play. During that time span they appeared in 7 straight State Championship games, with 5 of those games being against teams from SWVA. Their record in those games was 1-4 with a win over Garden in 1986. The other 4 games were losses to Covington and Powell Valley 3 times. To be more precise, from 1984-1990 Lunenburg played a total of 96 games with an overall record of 91-5....and 4 of those 5 losses came to teams from SWVA. Ask them the difference between athletes and smash mouth football players. They didn't lack confidence in their athletes either...in 1985 after the conclusion of their half state game their coach went as far as to say that he thought they had defeated their competition in the state and they were "Going to Big Stone Gap to pick up the trophy"...in all they made 3 trips and went home empty handed every single time. No doubt they had more athletes on the field, and no doubt they dominated their half of the state..but when faced with the traditional brand of football played in SWVA they usually tasted their only defeat of the whole season. Athletes are good to have, but football players are better to have.
Just something to keep in mind when talking smack about the number of athletes on any given team...

Its easy to set up a fake profile on a site like this to troll.  Someone I know, as a prank, got my password and posted some outlandish things claiming to be me on this very board a couple of years ago.  Twitter is a little different.  He has pictures of himself and teammates all over his twitter page.  He is making some of the same kinds of remarks on Twitter as he is on here.

Given the weather we have had down this way, speed wont be a factor.  The field conditions will dictate how the game is played.

I really have no skin in this game, but some of these comments have been a little over-the-top.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but we are talking about 15, 16, 17 and 18-year-old kids, aren't we?  You seem to be attempting to tear down a community that has been the standard of excellence in high school sports for a long, long time.  Don't expect that kind of flaming to be accepted without some resistance.  Your team may win, but they also may lose.  If they do lose, since you have been bumping your gums non-stop, please be man enough to come here and admit you were wrong. 

I hope you realize the majority of these folks aren't even GC fans, but evidently you want to spread some trash. Keep thinking this is the same GC team from last year. I hope your boys and their "mommas" think the same way. I've noticed your boys doing alot of talking on Twitter too. Tell them to keep it up.
