VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted August 23, 2011 No special top-of-the-hour report on WDBJ today over something that ACTUALLY happened (as opposed to some teenagers saying it could'a been an earthquake, which would, of course, have pre-empted all programming) Meanwhile, been flipping around Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc. and have YET to hear 1 certain state mentioned, but THEY felt it, too http://www.wvgazette.com/News/201108230754 Plus, tried to land-line Haysi about half-an-hour ago and got a "all circuits are busy" msg. ThomasDenton 79 Report Share Posted August 23, 2011 I live between exits 5 and 7 in Bristol and didn't feel anything, but one of my friends working on State Street and some people I know in Abingdon said they felt it. Some news reports said it was felt from the Carolinas all the way up to Canada.

trublue 939 Report Share Posted August 23, 2011 I didn’t feel it in ATL. Was waiting outside of GAC elementary and heard the radio announcer mention the quake in VA. What…a quake in VA??? I was reading earlier in the day about the strong quake in CO and now a quake in VA!!! See people comments in link: http://www.ajc.com/news/northeast-quake-felt-in-1134055.html The earthquake that rocked the Northeast on Tuesday was felt by many in metro Atlanta. On the UGA campus, student Jon Goodfriend said “everyone on campus felt it.†“The TV in my room lost signal,†Goodfriend said. “My futon where I was doing homework started shaking.†Mark Anthony, who lives in Sugar Hill in Gwinnett County, said his house “swayed and shook†and dishes and items on shelves and windows rattled for 20 to 30 seconds. “It was kind of like a giant train going by, or like when I used to live near the artillery ranges in Fort Benning, but it was different at the same time because of the feeling of swaying involved,†Anthony said. Julian Gray, the resident geologist at the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, confirmed that the quake could be felt in Georgia. Following link CO quake: http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_18737351 The quake was the largest in Colorado since a magnitude-5.3 temblor was recorded in Denver's northern suburbs in 1967, said Paul Earle of the USGS. Sigala said the area occasionally has swarms of earthquakes, some lasting days or weeks, but Monday's temblor was unusual. "A 5.3 is big for Colorado," she said. hokies11 10 Report Share Posted August 24, 2011 Heard a report that said there had been talks from people in Toronto to Florida that said they felt it. Bluefield State sent out an alert message as well. A few fire trucks went by classes about the same time, although I'm not completely positive that's what they were for. GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted August 24, 2011 Saw this on another website...didn't know whether to post it here or in the Politics forum... BREAKING NEWS: The President has just confirmed that the DC earthquake occurred on a rare and obscure fault-line, apparently known as "Bush's Fault". The President also announced that the Secret Service and Maxine Waters continues an investigation of the quake's suspicious ties to the Tea Party. Conservatives, however, have proven that it was caused by the founding fathers rolling over in their graves.

BigBlueAlum 12 Report Share Posted August 25, 2011 I was standing in the middle of the New River near Fort Chiswell and I didn't feel a thing. Although, there were a couple of time I almost fell off the rock I was standing on while I was fishing. I'm going to blame it on the earthquake and not the beer.
