Carroll - Ryan Gravley (will repeat as POTY in southwest) - Carroll's floor leader, leads team in scoring & assists. Very heads up player.

Carroll - Austin Horton- CC's Big man is often overlooked. Doesn't put up a lot of scoring due to great guard play, but is capable and takes care of business when Carroll does elect to go inside. Also has played great D and gets a ton of rebounds. Took 35 charges as a junior, not sure how many this year, but if there is state record, he should be approaching it.

Carroll - Chris Smoot - CC's best defensive player. Very quick, shuts down most guards that he covers. Good 3 pt shooter.

Abingdon - Mack Owens - Very solid player, tough inside and also has good range. Put up 28 in loss to Carroll at Abingdon.

Tazewell - Walker - Most athletic kid in the district.

Since we are talking SWD, Ethan Richardson and Sam Lincoln from Marion.

I have only seen Marion play once against Carroll. Richardson & Lincoln didn't do much in that game. Lincoln does have good size, picked up some nice blocks and caused several players to change their shots, but didn't do much on offensive end. Carroll's guards, Smoot, Beamer, Gravley kept Richardson in check most of the night.

So I guess we are supposed to judge them on how they play against Chilhowie, Northwood, Rural Retreat, & Holston, huh?

you guys have a good team but nothing to brag about as many students as you guys have you should have a good team every year but as I recall maybe 4 years ago you guys were lucky to beat anybody.... get over it

that they were losing every game 3-4 years ago and now winning every game is that the freshmen who were starting 3-4 years ago are now seniors. Everything goes in cycles. School size really has nothing to do with it. Experience and dedication are more important. This group of players has paid their dues. They have been playing AAU together since they were 9-10 years old. They averaged 40-50 games a year for the past 9-10 years. Often times playing up against older kids, just to get games. They have played in tournaments all over the state of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

Besides I wasn't on here talking about Carroll's record until now. I was replying to who the best individual seniors were.

Gate City - Andy Arnold & Luke Ervin

VA High - Nick Howard & Zach Bossard

JSB - Alex Posey & Matthew McMurray

Lee - Adam Pendleton

On Battle's website, on the boys varsity basketball page in the athletics section, the roster (which is from last season) has Alex Posey listed as a 10th grader. But Battle's new athletics website, jsbhsathletics.org, has him listed as a senior for this season. May be just a typo on last year's roster though because I think he is a senior this year.
