Not by winning percentage, just by number of wins. Does not include record at other schools. stu_bean 1,058 Report Share Posted September 14, 2016 I don't have the records but I would have thought Ryder would have been the best coach at Tazewell. Can't believe it was Litz...

sixcat 2,922 Report Share Posted September 14, 2016 Interesting stuff BR, thanks. I didn't realize Mark Dixon was already on top of the wins list for Galax but I shouldn't be surprised. Galax didn't make the playoffs once for the first 60+ years of the program and only have 5 playoff appearances prior to Dixon's arrival. They haven'y missed the playoffs once in Dixon's tenure. 1920-1984 = 0 playoff appearances 1985-2009 = 5 playoff appearances and 2 postseason wins 2010-2015 = 6 playoff appearances, 15 postseason wins, 2 state championship appearances, 1 state title Coaching matters! Credit to Craig Worrell of the Galax Gazette for the information. He puts out a football preview every fall and it is phenomenal. swva_havok_fan

swva_havok_fan 1,261 Report Share Posted September 14, 2016 Craig's is great, Bristol Herald does a great job also, Roanoke times pretty good I really liked when the BHC released a single edition football preview instead of spreading it out over two weeks of papers. Oh well, guess subscriptions declining and papers bought at newsstand declining/higher website traffic increasing will cause you to do that. 1inStripes 933 Report Share Posted September 14, 2016 I was a little surprised Tom Callaway had the lead at RC, as I expected it to be Sarge Reed before figuring it up.
sixcat 2,922 Report Share Posted September 14, 2016 Stephen James 65-37, had a lot of rebuilding to do-started out 10-20 his first 3 years. I noticed that as well. Without question, the best football coach the Fort has had and he will do a great job in Pulaski.

They also let me in the office to go through all the old papers that they had bound in books. Unfortunately none before WWII hence the limited information on Galax back that far. 1inStripes 933 Report Share Posted September 14, 2016 Sarge was 40-43-1 from 1983-1990. He wasnt the HC, but he basically ran the 97-99 teams at RC also. I guess that is why I think of him being ahead.
