Hokies_rulz 3 Report Share Posted November 10, 2016 Would anyone have the LPD football district championships from start to finish? Also, looking for when teams joined and when they left the district. Thanks in advance.

BigWinners 1,643 Report Share Posted November 10, 2016 What about JIB? I thought Norton had left LPD in the last season? I could be wrong. Same with Coeburn.
Jason 299 Report Share Posted November 10, 2016 Norton stayed with the LPD until it was disbanded. Norton and Clintwood entered the Cumberland in 2013. BigWinners

1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted November 10, 2016 1999 was when they were state runnersup. They were very good in the 80s also. I think in 87 they played GC to a 21-14 game. May have been the same year GC lost to Radford in the ice. Jason
Union_Fan 2,155 Report Share Posted November 10, 2016 Pound was very competitive in the 80's against PV. PV state years in the 80s 1982 - POWELL VALLEY 14 POUND 0 1985 - POWELL VALLEY 6 POUND 14 1989 - POWELL VALLEY 12 POUND 7 PV finished 10-0 regular season 1983 - POWELL VALLEY 28 POUND 19 1986 - POWELL VALLEY 9 POUND 8 PV 8-2 regular season 1984 - POWELL VALLEY 2 POUND 9 1988 - POWELL VALLEY 20 POUND 14 Jason
sup_rbeast 296 Report Share Posted November 10, 2016 The 89 score is somewhat misleading...I'm not sure Pound even had positive total yardage on offense. But, it rained so hard that entire night that you needed a boat to get to the sidelines and water wings to play..lol. About 6 inches of water was standing on the field, but they hit a pass off a PV fumble right before half. Seriously tho, that was the lone highlight for the Wildcats that night. BigWinners 1,643 Report Share Posted November 10, 2016 Norton stayed with the LPD until it was disbanded. Norton and Clintwood entered the Cumberland in 2013. You're right, only Coeburn left for Cumberland before the LPD disbanded so it ended up: PV GC JJK PHS CW JIB AHS

BigWinners 1,643 Report Share Posted November 11, 2016 Wrong. Gate City joined the Clinch Mountain in 2007. It technically ended with only four schools, but I was counting before consolidation. In the end it was just Union, Central, JIB and CW. PV, AHS, JJK and PHS weren't even schools went it officially folded. But when it died, it was when JIB, GC, PV, AHS, JJK, CW and PHS were the teams. 2012 was the actual end. GC wasn't in LPD long either way. Union joined up with Lee, GC, VHS, Battle, Central and Lebanon when it became Conference 40 or Mountain District. Union/Central were technically in a different district but it was a two team district.
redtiger 1,740 Report Share Posted November 11, 2016 Pound had a team in the mid 80s that is regarded as their best, 9-1, only loss to PV. Didn't make the playoffs under the old district champs only setup. Pounds 99 team was pretty good but finished the regular season 6-4(I think) including a losses to Haysi, Clintwood, PV and JJK (not sure about JJK, Pound may have been 7-3). The 99 Haysi team got smoked by Honaker in the 1st round of the playoffs while Pound made it to the state title game before losing to Surry Co 21-

The 99 Haysi team got smoked by Honaker in the 1st round of the playoffs while Pound made it to the state title game before losing to Surry Co 21-6 The thing I remember most about that Pound/Haysi game was that Pound built a HUGE lead in that game. Then through the PA, we kept hearing that JJ Kelly was up on Powell Valley, so me and my buddy thought Pound was going to win in a runaway, so we hopped in the car and drove to Wise to catch the second half of JJ Kelly finishing off the upset over Powell Valley. We came back through Pound, saw there were still all kinds of cars in the parking lot, and thought to ourselves... "What?! This game isn't over yet?!" So we stopped back by, caught the last two minutes of regulation and the overtime of Haysi's comeback win. Pretty fun night.
