BasementBaller2021 7 Report Share Posted February 13, 2022 With the unbalance of teams in Region D Class 2 (7 and 5) should Region D Class 2 go to a 4 pod system? LPD Pod Union Central Ridgeview Southwest Pod Tazewell Richlands Graham Highlands Pod Marion Abingdon John Battle Clinch Mountain Pod Gate City Lee Virginia High Each pod plays each team in their pod twice 4 games Each team plays one team from each pod each year on a rotation 6 games That’s a 10 game pod guarantee Each team can then schedule up to six other non pod teams for t2 extra games (counting benefit games) (home/away) and also allows a lot of freedoms to schedule in season tournament games as well Post Season Tournament format (Southwest 3 vs Southwest 2) winner plays Southwest 1 (Highlands 3 bs Highlands 2) winner plays Highlands 1 LPD 3 vs LPD 2 winner plays LPD 1 Clinch Mountain 3 vs Clinch Mountain 2 winner plays Clinch Mountain 1 Region Tourney Quarterfinals Southwest 2/3 be Highlamds 1 Game 1 Highlamds 2/3 bs Southwest 1 Game 2 LPD 2/3 bs Climch Mountain 1 Game 3 Climch Mountain 2/3 vs LPD 1 Game 4 Region Semifinals Game 1 winner bs Game 2 winner (Game 5) Game 3 winner vs Game 4 winner (Game 6) Region Championship Game 5 vs Game 6 winner. sixcat 2,922 Report Share Posted February 14, 2022 Region D won't be so unbalanced in a few years with Carroll County's enrollment dropping rapidly. In addition to consolidations coming in a few areas, it's going to work itself out.

They're a good fit there geographically, better than the SWD anyway. The new Buchanan County high school will even up the Region 2D districts

The new Buchanan County high school will even up the Region 2D districts I don't disagree the Three Rivers is the best fit, but it's more complicated and nuanced than that. Simply put, the Three Rivers District (along with 1C and 2C) as a whole will have some decisions to make in the next 5 years. Carroll isn't the only school likely to change divisions. The Alleghany/Covington consolidation is going to place the new school squarely in the middle of the 3A pack with around 1,000 students. Floyd County enrollment is dropping about as fast as Carroll, if not faster. Floyd has lost over 200 students in the past 5 years and has already reached out to the MED to have "discussions." Radford hovers around the 1A/2A cutoff every year. James River has already dwindled to fewer students than the largest handful of 1A schools. They are listed at 476 on the Virginia DOE website for this school year. Glenvar is growing and are in the neighborhood of 650 right now. TRD can stay as is even with schools changing classification, but several schools aren't pleased with the current set-up and are looking for a change. With this much shuffling between classifications coming in he next few years, it's going to throw Region C - Class 1 and 2 into disarray. Thus, in my opinion, changes are coming soon. redtiger

Agree, and with the way they are creating the sub-regions for the Region C tourney makes no sense. There has to be a better way. They put the top 5 or 6 teams on one side and the other side has terrible teams. Region C will not be sending they best two teams to the state tourney which is dumb. sixcat

pdfan 101 Report Share Posted February 14, 2022 Radcat, the best 2 teams will probably go. JR and Radford will almost assuredly be the 2 teams. Once they get to the final of both sides of the bracket they will cross bracket then. JR and Radford will beat both teams out of the other side, probably Floyd Co and Martinsville if there is no upsets.

pdfan 101 Report Share Posted February 15, 2022 81 sub region is Radford, Glenvar, James River, Appo, Nelson Co & Alleghany. The other sub region is Patrick Co, Floyd Co, Martinsville, Dan River, Chatham & Gretna. It cuts down some on travel for the early rounds. There were other reasons but won't go into those. After the first two rounds are played the four teams left( 2 from each sub region) will play at Roanoke College with the highest seed from sub region 81 playing the lowest seed left from the Mountain sub region and vice-versa. Winners play for the region championship. It will probably be JR vs Radford in the finals. jmo redtiger

I wish they would publish brackets in advance so people could see what is going on instead of waiting until the day before. Thank you for the clarification!
