OFF TOPIC... what items does Damascus need right now?

I’m posting this to the Class 1 and 2 threads because there are a lot more schools in these classes in SWV than elsewhere across the state.

There are an untold number of people putting together relief efforts for our neighbors in the affected areas of VA and NC. Today, my wife learned of a neighbor that was loading a trailer and headed to Damascus soon. She had read that some things get overlooked when considering what to send. A couple of items she saw that were needed where flat point shovels and heavy garden rakes. Also, 5 gallon plastic buckets. So she bought a bunch of these items and took them to our neighbor.

This brought me to ask you folks that are most closely associated with the disaster, what is needed that is being overlooked. Suggest it here and I’ll spread the word.

Baby items: Infant formula, breastfeeding supplies, and diapers

Pet items: Cat food and dog food

I pray everyone can help. I was just outside of Asheville last week to set up command center. I can tell you if not for volunteers and donations this a lot would be worse than it already is.
The destruction is beyond anything than i can comprehend and I'm still struggling with what i saw.  Pray for these folks as well!!

@VHSLhelper  We dropped some stuff off Friday, they had plenty of water. We had some recovery type supplies: tarps, shovels, buckets, work gloves, etc and they seemed glad to get those. Pet food and Gatorade seemed to be in short supply.

They seemed a little overwhelmed with donations and a lot of people (us included) dropped off donations from various people that were basically bags with a little of this and a little of that, which im sure would be a nightmare to sort later.  When we take supplies next time were going to organize everything before we drop off.

The quick local response seems to have made a huge difference. Not playing politics but Federal response, other than the military/Natl. Guard, is inherently slow. Thank God for capable and willing locals.
