  1. White Horse, LOL. It will never die because Akers will one day return to Gate City as Holston will win Region D next year.
  2. Any chance Akers would come back to Gate City as an assistant or possibly end up as an assistant at Richlands under the new Head Coach? "I'm already ducking and bracing for the blow."
  3. Good point. My honest answer is.....Nope. Just watching that kid play, man what a freakin beast. The way that kid exploded off the ball with not just speed, but god awful upper body and leg strength was crazy impressive (in my opinion) for a Class 2 Defensive End.
  4. Best wishes to Greer. Also, big sack move in my opinion coming home to Carroll County which sounds like for the reasons you pointed out a tough place to win. I hope he can get them going. Carroll needs to get those kids back from Cana and keep them at home instead of Mt. Airy because there's a lot of country hams in Cana, and they are probably losing some big boys along the line of scrimmage to Mt. Airy.
  5. I understand that, or the fact that mostly the teams with deeper playoff runs get picked. I think this should also probably be the case 95% of the time, but this is that 5% where you have kid who is a D1 Commit. When the talent is so obvious, that should trump a deep playoff run in these 1 to 5% of cases. Coe is committed to a team that was ranked in the top 25 in the country for a part of the season. If the All State Team only selects All Region kids, then the Region also made a mistake if Coe wasnt first team Defensive End. I watched Graham, Union, Tazewell, Ridgeview, Gate City. They are all awesome teams, but none of them has a Defensive End as good as Coe. I do understand the WHY....related to why he didn't make All State because no deep playoff run/Marion being a weaker team, but I just wish they would occasionally make an exception for the WHY when you have a D1 kid. Just my opinion though. I'm sure others may have a different take.
  6. Agree with the above except leaving off a Div 1 kid (one of only a few in Class 2) in Marion's Coe. There's no way there are 4 better defensive ends in Virginia's Class 2 than Coe.
  7. Congrats to new Richlands Head Coach Ronnie Davis. Best wishes in turning it around for the Blues. I'm sure Coach Davis is excited about the opportunity and ready to get busy. Also, a humble and grateful thank you to former coach Tarter for years and years of service to your community. America could use a whole lot more just like you. Good luck to all Blues fans, players, and alums in the transition and new beginning.
  8. Next year 1D, Got to go with Honaker. 1C, Got to go with Galax, then George Wythe 2D, Got to go with Graham and Union. 2C, I'll go Appomattox, then Glenvar, Radford, Gretna all close Statewide 2A, Same two with King William and Poquson followed by Southampton 1A, Essex was supposed to be young according to their fans at the game, so got to go with Essex, 2B, Riverheads followed by everyone else 1B, Altavista then Sussex. State Finals Class 1. I will go with the same two teams in Galax and Essex Class 2. I will go with Riverheads against another close call with Union, Graham, Appomattox. State Title Winner- No idea, but no suprise if Appo, Graham, Riverheads, Union win it. Lots can change. Does King William have a super team like 2 years ago or does somebody step up like a Clarke County or Buckingham or William Campbell or Gretna, or does Radford just reload even though they lost the QB. Hard to say, but I will go with one of the four teams mentioned above to win the state title.
  9. MED is the best Class 1 district in Virginia and it's been that way for a while now. Radford, Glenvar, Bluefield, Graham, Tazewell are good football teams and these 5 schools certainly help the MED's schedule strength and deservingly so. I wonder if Galax's schedule played a part Saturday. Seeing a Radford and Graham and Glenvar has to have some kind of meaning when facing Essex. I don't know how much, but it has to factor in. Seeing this type of quality and athleticism and lineplay certainly means Galax isn't going to be overwhelmed emotionally/mentally prior to kickoff. They may win or lose, but they know they've seen some real juggernauts in the regular season that I think has to factor in.
  10. It's why Calpreps is not perfectly scientific. Yes, it takes out personal opinions, emotions, etc, but a true scientific system would control for variables like schedule strength, injuries, past meetings with that school, etc. Calpreps is fun and it's good, but it's only going by total scores-final scores across the country to make a prediction without controlling for the variables mentioned above. A true-scientific study or research calculation to make a conclusion would control for multiple variables. Essex vs Grayson County? What does Calpreps say or guess, Grayson -3 points? I don't even bet, but I would probably start betting if given that offer. Essex all day long.
  11. LOL, yep, Giles held Radford to 35 so it certainly means Giles was one of the better defenses Radford played all year. Much like the Glenvar argument, the Bluefield Beavers nearly beat Graham and this means Bluefield could have stacked right up with Radford and might have been the 2nd best team in Class 2 Virginia this year if they were in Virginia. P.S. Don't pay attention to the Giles and Bluefield overall records or the other 9 games played, let's just cherry pick one data point, make a conclusion from it and stick with it, because we don't do "fallacy."
  12. Gate City at one point was probably the most hated team on this board years ago in my opinion.
  13. However "horrible" it is, Galax is a less horrible than any class 1 team in Virginia including George Wythe. What I saw was outstanding defense by Galax.
  14. Can someone post the field goal clip when you have it.
  15. When u hear words like, "clutch, lucky, got some breaks, hung in there, not pretty" and the team still wins, it wreaks of WINNER. The kind of team down 20 to 14 in table tennis and they real off 8 pts in a row to win 22-20. There are programs like that. There are people like that. Galax is like that. It's called....WINNERS.
  16. LMAO and it's a good LMAO! Lil WINNER Salem known as Galax in a down year, wins the state title. Galax football is the same as.....WINNER.
  17. And to anyone who is looking at points is taking out the flow of the game and the matchup. Fact is, Graham, Radford, Riverheads, Union were all close. Radford was a bad matchup for Riverheads. All 4 teams were close in my opinion. I think Radford had 5 more total yds than Graham in their contest if I read correctly. Graham was 2 dropped TD passes from having a very strong chance to come away with the win. Riverheads was not 2 pass drops short. Radford handled them. Union would have matched up better than Graham against Radford in my opinion. Graham would have matched up better against Riverheads than Union in my opinion. Much of it is about matchups. All 4 were close. The best team won the title, and Riverheads was anywhere from the 2nd best team to the 4th best team in my opinion.
  18. Riverheads is legit, the real deal, but again, they have bypassed being able to be spread out like that year after year. They couldn't avoid it this year. They got caught. That's the difference in Class 1 and 2. Sooner or later, u are going to get spread out at some point.
  19. I said this earlier for a couple of years. If you are using VA High as a standard of coaches ability to win, it's a bad choice. Even Paul Wheeler struggled some compared to Rustburg and Lafayette stints where he won state titles.
  20. Is Bunch as good as his older brother was? His older brother was a freakin baller.
  21. With Thorton at the helm, at least Richlands will still be "slinging" it around the yard.
