  1. Union is looking to get out of KY I believe. Too often road trips to eastern KY schools are too eventful to be polite. I'd rather play Morristown West or Science Hill instead of Letcher or Breathitt County
  2. Well right now with the M7+JIB being somewhat down, Union can't match up with Richlands conference slate but they try and offset that with tough OOC games. 2017 was just a perfect storm for an insane Richlands schedule, most years VHS, Marion and Graham all won't win 7+ games, but playing Union and Bluefield OOC is crazy tough every year. I'm not sure any team can ever face as tough a slate, it's almost mathematically impossible lol. Union went 13-1, Graham was what, 11-2?, Bluefield won like 15 games and a state title, Marion went like 9-2, VHS was good, it was just a special year. Any other year, Blues are 6-4 or so
  3. I believe they were being as vanilla as Union, not wanting to show too much so they wouldn't have too much on film. Tons of moving the pocket and rollouts, making it reading one WR then take off if not immediately open. It was a weird ending, either VHS was fooled by the faulty scoreboard and wanted to get more points than Union at the end, trying a FG that would have put them ahead on the scoreboard but the scoreboard was wrong. I gave the VHS coaches more credit, I thought they wanted their FG unit to practice a high pressure scenario of just put up as many points as possible and were aware of the score but I dunno 100%
  4. $4.8 million doesn't go very far at all when building one field, much less an athletic complex/park type deal West Ridge is trying to do. Even $6 million for a modern HS FB stadium seems low, I believe Centrals was more than that in Wise.
  5. So Union would potentially play Graham at Mitchell and I'm hearing Science Hill? Jesus Christ, talk about an OOC schedule.
  6. QB didn't wanna throw, he wanted to run for VHS. Not sure if that was a design or a bug, but it looked to me that the receivers were working to get open but the QBs eyes dropped real early. Not ness. bc of Union pressure either, as at times it didn't come and Bears didn't maintain outside edge and got gashed. But the secondary wasn't tested much until the 2s came in for both sides. Both second teams aired it out more but that young freshman, 20, for VHS, was a killer once he played with kids his age later in the game.
  7. VHS has a ton of speed at QB, and both backs (2 and 20) are more physical than you realize but are also burners. Union didn't show much at all, probably didn't run 10 different plays with the actual 1s and started subbing as early as late 1st Q with the all the 2s playing most of second half after opening drive of third quarter. Physically on offense, it's still there. Jenkins, Polier and Stidham all can pound the rock and Jenkins can go 30-40 yards in a blink, but Union ran the spread a lot after the first quarter. Turner had two beautiful throws, the corner Falin caught early and the go route they barely missed on, but also a couple misthrows. But he looked healthy and mobile which is truly important. The throws will come, it's just good to see him healthy and moving. On defense, Unions 1s tackles well in the open field aside from a couple mistakes. But give VHS credit, the athletes were very quick and reactive and linebackers like 2 and 54 were all over the field. 21 was in on a lot of plays but unfortunately for him ended up on a potential Jenkins highlight reel after a NASTY stiff arm. Exciting finish, Bear backups score with 30 seconds left to finish ahead of scoreboard, VHS ran out of time after getting within the 20ish as time expired. 24-20 was final score, the game scoreboard showed 24-23 but once people actually see scoring plays, it was 24-20. But that mattered very little as I think both teams have a lot of positives coming out of tonight but also holes to work on. Union is finding their rotation and players new on defense getting adjusted, VHS working on winning at the LOS and shedding blocks. Don't go to Bristol and expect an easy win. In a regular season game, I'd favor Union by 14ish, maybe less maybe a tad more, but the Bearcats will be alive come playoff time.
  8. Ok You're aware his mother was actually a coal miner right? Betty worked underground in the coal mines. TJ was never homeless but he didn't come from money and you know that. insinuating he took money as a recruit is just hilarious, UVA is paying kids? LOLOL
  9. he's a racist? That's stupid and just not true. That's just an alt-right tactic people use when black folks are standing up for their culture. Do you honestly believe TJ hates white people? Are you serious with that? And please share with the class where TJ is currently affiliated with a murderer. That's a huge accusation and you shouldn't say sh it like that without solid proof. We have all known people who've done bad stuff, are we to blame if our childhood best friend grows up to be a murderer? How's that fair? and all the drug stuff is just BS. I'm not gonna get into it on here but that was just a huge lie people concocted because TJ remained friends with some people he grew up with..He made millions in the NFL and got a degree from UVA. Why would he need to be involved in drug trafficking?
  10. Football is important bc it does build character, helps develop social skills and teamwork, and it instills some discipline. the sport will change some, but it won't die in our lifetime. It'll become more flag style, protecting the players which is not a bad idea but most are aware of the risks. I have no problems with 9-10 year olds playing in pads, they cant hit each other hard enough to do damage and I know all HS coaches are supposed to be required to pass a concussion class before being allowed to coach.
  11. In that case, you could argue that Appalachia is basically Big Stone, which would move the number to 1,234. But I was referring to VA towns and wins.
  12. Okay so what is their total number?
  13. What town has the most football wins? I've been using foufseasonsfootball site to tally up what town has the most wins, and so far it looks like Big Stone Gap has the most wins by a town in SWVA. Hampton leads overall with 808, but in SWVA it's BSG. PV went 401-166-15 Big Stone High went 193-91-22 Union has went 68-20 So total, BSG has 662 wins, 277 losses and 37 ties. There's no records for Shoemaker, maybe GC could surpass them. But I also didn't include East Stone Gap High despite basically being in Big Stone. I know Shoemaker had kids from Hiltons and stuff, it stands to reason we could include ESG and their 83 wins. But as it stands, BSG looks to be the leader. If you combined BSG and Appy, you get 1,234 wins. That's over a thousand wins in a ten mile radius. Pretty incredible. And why is their no record for Haysi from 1931-59?
  14. Bluefield Union Graham Ridgeview Richlands Virginia High Chilhowie Abingdon Galax Marion
  15. Thomas has donated money to Union, and has been an EXCELLENT role model. Never any legal issues, has a degree from UVA, everything you want your kid to aspire to become.
  16. Can you fill me in on who Burton returns and who could be stand out players aside from Thacker and Culberson?
  17. How PV gave that game away I'll never know. GC surely improved from regular season but PV handled them pretty handily (38-14) and should have done the same st UVAW, just laid an egg. But GC did beat Norton who beat PV by four in a wild game. The wildest was losing 8-7 at Clintwood, a game PV should've won. Went 8-4 but should have been 9-1 going into playoffs instead of 7-3.
  18. There's a pretty good article about Bailey on the Coalfield Sports website http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/10/spotlight-bears-qb-bailey-turner/
  19. I hear the Coalfield Sports site has some EXCELLENT contributors lolol
  20. For real! I loved the new Eastside helmet, it looked awesome.
  21. Can anyone tell me what Norton returns?
  22. Your son makes the list, I'm sure. For Union, OL Brandon Bunch and Trevor Wagner are great players, Avery Jenkins is a great returning RB/DB, but the star is likely Mason Polier. Could be best LB in region along with being a dominant runner. Kicker Justin Falin is for sure one of top three returning kickers.
