The smile (or smirk I guess) he gets when Dean or Ervin or another teammate has a big play is reassuring. When a kid that good takes joy in creating for his teammates and recognizing them after great plays, it really bolsters a team. GCs still Duke lol, clapping in an opponents face is something I dislike but that's not something only McClung does and it's not a huge deal. The two teams with big time D1 talent in this area are spoiled because both seem to be absolutely phenomenal teammates. Mitchell at Union was the epitome of what you want in a star player, always team first but wants the ball in the biggest situations and seems like MM is same way. I was a lil hard on him in the past, I took his joy for arrogance. But it seems genuine, he hasn't changed in the three years I've seen him.

Slagle gets hurt early in game v. Eastside tonight for Union. If it's serious, the Bears will be lucky to stay out of the cellar.

As of right now, the game is still in BSG. Discussions are going on about whether to move it, but from what I gather, only the administration wants the move. I'm against it, it's a HOME game for a reason. The only reason to move to UVAW is money, and that shouldn't be the reason the seniors lose a home game. But the current administration seems to be more concerned with revenue over winning.

The high school has the Jan. 3rd game on the electronic sign in front of the school but it didn't mention game being moved. I'm finding out now.

He went and played in the FCA East/West game, I can't fathom him being invited to play closer to home in a bigger game and saying no. I'll find out.

That bothered me quite a bit as well. He's first team All-State (two years in a row IIRC) and doesn't get invited. Moronic.

I think they are 30+ points better this year, but I think this is a special group for GC and they should not take this run for granted, similar to Union football.

That GC is always 20+ points better than rest of conference.

I don't think that's true as a general rule, only the last couple years bc of McClung and to a lesser extent Ervin. A team led by Ervin may still be best in the district but it wouldn't be easy. McClung is a special talent, it's unreasonable to expect GC to have this type of team on the average.

Union starts 1-0 with win at Sullivan East. Is East any better than Lee or Battle?

I only root for Tech when it's advantageous for Bama, so that will have to change now. With Mitchell and Beck being on the roster, I'll def be a little less harsh on the Chokies, err I mean Hokies err dammit it'll take some time lolol

I'm shocked!!!!! /s But I'm happy for him and hope he has tons of success there. If Tech wants him as a true TE, he will redshirt and bulk up. If he's used as an H-back and a receiver, he may not. Tech does a great job using the TEs and putting them in successful situations so this is a great landing spot for him. The shitty part is I now have to at least tolerate Tech. Yuck lolol

Ah okay I gotcha. Cooke was likely better KR but I wouldn't take any other player over Mitchell as a PR.

By the end of the season, the Union boys should be better than Central. Maybe not now since WC has been practicing a while and some Union key players are just now in basketball mode, but by the end I believe Union will be better and finish 2-3, depending on Abingdon, in M7.

From Union, Mitchell (TE, DB) and Jeb Stidham (DT) were named first team, while Brandon Bunch (OL), Braxton Zirkle (RB), Tanner Kennedy (LB) and Zack Qualls (DB) were second team. Couple thoughts: Mitchell being first team on both sides of the ball was an incredible achievement. The Appo RB being first team is a joke. Dude did nothing of note in games I saw on film or in person. Scruggs, Graves and Mann obviously but the RB being first team ahead of guys like Ford from Marion is a joke. Zirkle had a great year for Union, but I believe Owens was the more explosive and game changing runner. Kinda surprised Kennedy wasn't a first team LB, I believe he was as good as Vineyard or other picks despite not being as big. Mitchell was only second team PR, huge LOL. Can't imagine anyone was better as a PR.
