  1. I can't believe GC played Collier tonight. Poor guy looked like he couldn't move around well in the pocket. That being said, Abingdon jumped out to a quick start and never looked back.
  2. Very sad for the Lebanon Football Team and community. Thoughts and prayers go out to all.
  3. More on the home side than the visitors but there is plenty of standing room around the track. Last year Abingdon vs Richlands packed the place. If you want to get a seat in the stands you better get there early cause it will fill up fast. Just my opinion though.
  4. This one could be a really good game. Battle will fight to the end. VHS fought back against Tazewell fo a win last week. Could come down to who has the ball last.
  5. I was a little surprised when getting game updates this past Friday of the GC vs Richlands game but then just chalked it up to first game jitters. I will say this. Don't sleep on John Battle they competed to the last snap and if they can fix a couple of things they could be very competitive. Union, you could be right. If Collier is back by the time yall play them GC could be chomping at the bits. I still say GC has a murders row the first 6 weeks of their schedule but I have no doubt GC will be back competing in the near future.

  7. Anyone want to weigh in on this one? Or will this be a repeat of last year?

  9. I'd like to see Blacksburg try that with the likes of Richlands, Giles, Graham, and I'll let you know how it works out when they play Abingdon. If they were to try that against Richlands they'd lose by 100. They might be able to get away with it on some struggling teams but when you take on juggernaut teams who move the ball and can score in less than a minute and play stout defense, someones in for a long night. Just my opinion.
  10. If its such a great concept why is it not a single college or pro team institutes it. With the logic in that article mid major non-power 5 schools should implement this immediately and win the national championship year in and year out. Each to his own I guess. I'll take my chances with field position.
  11. That sucks and can be one of those lingering injuries. Hope the kid gets back on the field soon.
  12. Hate to hear Collier is injured. That definitely changes the dynamic with GC.and what they can do. What type of injury is it? From the sound of some comments sounds like something might be broken. Anyway Hope the kid can get back to the field sooner rather than later and play out his Sr year.

  14. Haven't heard much about JSB. Anyone know if they have improved over last season? Since they are our close neighbors I do hope the bast for them but I feel like this one will get out of hand early. Possibly creating some opportunities to develop our depth with the 2's and 3's.
  15. So with some of this logic I'm reading is statistically its a sound concept. Ok I'll give you all that. Lets say your in a game, the score is 16-14 your team is leading, you have the ball and its 4th and 6 inside your own 15 yard line with 1:30 minutes to go. What do you do? I know what I do in that situation. PUNT!!!! Play field position and and defense to win. Now if your some power running juggernaut offense you may try to go for it. But the percentages are certainly not in your favor. But each to there own opinion.
  16. Giving any team a short field is not a good idea much less Giles.
  17. So, basically his strategy is the "All I need to do is pick up 3 yards a play and I don't have to punt" That, and I'm sure he is hoping to recover 50% of his onside kicks. This strategy if they utilize it to me screams "NOT VERY GOOD ON DEFENSE" "POOR SPECIAL TEAMS PLAY". Anyone I've ever seen employ a gimmick strategy has something to hide that they are trying to compensate for. I let you all know what it looks like when Abingdon plays Blacksburg in a few weeks.
  18. Game Summary: Starters played about a quarter and a half. Started a little slow and then reeled off 21 points. AHS 21 PH 0 at 8:00 to go in the 2nd Qtr AHS played 3 QB's and all seemed efficient in their roles. Sturgill looks like he hasn't missed a beat since last season. Running game looked improved and there is now some quality depth. WR's. Well they are probably 3 or 4 deep at that position. AHS seems to have found their heir apparent kicker for next year and beyond in the Griffith kid who is just a freshman. Defense was a bright spot as they looked much improved from last weeks scrimmage at Volunteer. Defense definitely held Humphries in check all night. For the most part it looked like both coaches were working more on reps for the depth as 2's and 3's seen a lot of field time. Even PH seemed to be developing depth. 4th Qtr was majority JV and 3rd string QB's working. Final AHS 35 PH 3
  19. I'm sure years ago when some of us played this game, Oklahoma drill, Bull in the Ring, and 2-3 hours of full contact practice was the norm. That is not the case these days. Teams are only allotted 30 minutes per week for full contact. Even then most teams don't allow there DB's, LB's and other skill players to execute game speed tackling and hitting like in the past.
  20. That is not true. Speed is not what causes it. Obviously you have never had concussion awareness training. Blunt force to the head is what causes it, whether it be running and hitting or repetitive blows to the head. Linemen sustain 70-75 minor to moderate blows to there head each practice. Compare that to running backs and QB's that the coaches limit the number of hits and or contact allowed on them. If they don't they aren't very good coaches IMHO.
  21. Abingdon has instituted these for all down lineman during practice. Not sure if they would wear them in games but they did have them on during their scrimmages at Volunteer last week. Probably could save a possible concussion since interior line have multiple head contact week in and week out.
  22. Looks like it may be a repeat of last years benifit game. Muddy wet mess. I'm not sure what PH has coming back this year other than the Humphries kid. From what I've heard they are down and lost quite a bit on the OL and DL. On the upside football will be clicking every week till Nov/Dec and thats a good thing.
  23. Sorry guys probably should've posted that in the scrimmage results thread. Overall it was a pretty basic scrimmage. No high flying theatrics or over the top play calling.
