  1. Ryan, not that is seems to have made a difference in anyone's pick thus far, but the Ridgeview/Grundy game is at Ridgeview, not Grundy. Just figured I would l let that be known in case someone was thinking this was a "toss a coin" type of game and the home field advantage would play a key role in determining the outcome.
  2. From Lebanon tonight: Ridgeview 6, Lebanon 6 Ridgeview 34, Rural Retreat 0 Didn't stay for the Lebanon vs. Rural Retreat finale. Wolfpack offense looked very good. Mixed it up quite a bit with the pass and run. Look foward to seeing how they do against Burton and whoever else they play next Friday in Norton.
  3. No, I will be at Lebanon for Ridgeview's scrimmage.
  4. Anyone know who is in the JI Burton jamboree (other than Burton and Ridgeview) next Friday (18th) and the schedule of games? I can't go anyway because of the race but still interested in knowing who's playing.
  5. I like Abingdon and Richlands both, and I welcome Abingdon into our district this year with open arms, but Abingdon did choke against a 14 seed in the first round of the playoffs on their home field. Also, Abingdon did beat Richlands in sloppy conditions, but Graham annihilated Abingdon and Richlands beat Graham... twice. In Bluefield. In dry conditions. Like I said, I like both, but there is no argument on who "the man" is in the debate of Richlands and Abingdon. Just my two cents. :)
  6. Ridgeview is at Lebanon this Friday at 6:00.
  7. 1. Richlands 2. Union 3. Graham 4. Abingdon 5. Bluefield 6. George Wythe 7. Galax 8. Hurley 9. JI Burton 10. Radford
  8. Gate City pinning hopes on passing attack by Allen Gregory BHC Sports http://www.heraldcourier.com/sports/gate-city-pinning-hopes-on-passing-attack/article_99942bcc-78aa-11e7-a8cc-77c87d2f17ea.html
  9. Tricitiessports.com doesn't count. Lol
  10. I think this game even won an ESPY for Game of the Year or something like that... it still holds true today as amazing.
  11. Duly noted... but hey, still .500 against Gate City all time bud. (at least for a couple more months anyway)... :)
  12. Heck far, if we're going to talk about games from abroad... and all of you younger folks who may have never had the chance to view this piece of legendary video history, I present to you THIS: The Texas state high school football championship game from Texas stadium in 1994. Probably still to this day, the most talked about high school football game nationwide of all time. Heck, I am pretty sure these radio announcers were the guys used in Varsity Blues, which in my opinion is still the greatest football movie of all time. For those who haven't seen this, sit back and enjoy 5 minutes of a fantastic story. For those who HAVE seen it... watch it again because this clip never gets old.
  13. I'm probably in the minority, but I am happy it's still a 32 team bracket state wide. Though I can see why a lot of people don't like it because it was pointed out somewhere that 6A Region B only has 8 teams, which means all the teams in that region are in the playoffs before a snap even takes place. What I don't like is the cross bracketing at the final 8. I think you should have a regional champion. Plus it sounds like the cross bracketing will rotate, so even though C/D play each other this year, I guess the next two years, C/D will go to A or B.
  14. SPECIAL REPORT: The new VHSL Configuration http://rvasportsnetwork.blogspot.com/2017/07/special-report-new-vhsl-configuration.html I know most of this contained in this post isn't news to most people but one little paragraph in here was to me: So, if I am reading into this correctly, the final 8 now will be cross bracketed, not just the final 4. Looks like this year, when the final 8 teams are decided, lowest seed left in Region D would travel to highest seed left from Region C and highest seed left from Region D would host lowest seed left from Region C. Interesting.
  15. Never really seen anything wild at a high school football game. I missed the epic comeback Haysi had at JJ Kelly several years back because I left with a minute to go in regulation. I almost did the same for the miracle in Wise but decided to stay for whatever reason and witnessed the punt return that caused Emory and Henry to not renew the SWVA bowl. Not really wild, but amazing was the punt return by Blaine Hackney against Powell Valley. The wild stuff I have seen happened on the hardwood. Stephen Niece of JJ Kelly getting heckled by Pound fans when they played Haysi in the Region D tournament and then finally having enough and running into the stands throwing punches Ron Artest style. Clintwood coach Mike Grear getting tossed very early in a game for shoving a referee. And more recently, the wife of Ridgeview girls basketball coach Donnie Frazier shouting f-bombs and other profanities at Gate City coach Kelly Houseright and confronting her after the game nearly getting into a fight.
  16. If Blacksburg throws a hail mary to win it, how will you call the game? Gus Johnson screamin' excited style or Hawk Harrelson "And this ballgame is ovah...." suicidal depression style?
  17. I'm guessing that is the stadium beside the Rays field? If so, yes, that stadium looked amazing from the outside. I went to a Rays game a few weeks ago and marveled in how nice the football stadium looked.
  18. Do most say something to the effect of... "Sure looked like that should've been pass interference there..." If so, I haven't heard it.
  19. Plus the PA guy is a homer from hell. Between him and the Twin Springs PA guy, I am not sure who's ass I'd like to kick most.
  20. Gate City should definitely be the favorite in Region D. They're probably better than anyone in Region C as well. Not sure about the other side of the state.
  21. Ridgeview will be fine at football skill positions by Allen Gregory of BHC Sports http://www.heraldcourier.com/sports/ridgeview-will-be-fine-at-football-skill-positions/article_422b523a-74da-11e7-b391-b75eaaea6b35.html
  22. Kill it... kill it with fire I say! Lol
  23. That's the thing... I thought it was a RUMOR. Not CONFIRMED.
  24. WHEN Eastside closes? Didn't know that was a thing?
  25. Yes, I know it's still a long way from the last week of December, but since announcements are being made about the tournament, figured I would go ahead and make a thread. Eastside will join Gate City as SWVA reps in the Arby's Classic this year. All I can say is I hope that Eastside does better than the last 1A SWVA school in the Arby's (Hurley).
