  1. I like the idea of playing 8 on 8 in LIttle League that sixcat mentioned earlier. It would definitely get the kids more playing time and exposure to the game. I know of several teams that have 25-30 kids on one little league team with most leagues requiring a minimum of 4 plays per half for each kid. That's not very much playing time for many kids therefore they drop out. When I think back to my days of playing midget league we played several teams in a relatively small area. That same area can barely field one team in each age group.
  2. The middle school aspect of what you're mentioning is what concerns me the most with Graham. The 8th graders this year will be in for the surprise of their life when they enter the 9th grade next year. Hopefully our MS program can turn things around next year. Putting a coaching staff together that kids have confidence in and like to play for IMO is key to a successful program. If kids don't like a coach today there are so many other options out there for them they simply won't play.
  3. Does Galax get many transfers from other schools or "recruits"?
  4. Jme Harris the current middle school football coach at Tazewell. If Saban and Beamer turn the job down I'm hearing Leftwich from Graham is very high on the list.
  5. They pretty much took us to the wood shed.
  6. Back to the game, Graham's pass defense was taken advantage of in the first half against Martinsville. After the Richlands game I thought they had improved quite a bit on in that department. Both teams have improved since their regular season meeting. Graham will have to play more disciplined football, limiting turnovers and penalties to come out with the win.
  7. I guess im old school on this topic. I pay $6 to watch a football game not a circus. I understand the concept of getting your team fired up before a game but I believe in letting your pads do the talking. Just my opinion in no way am I butt hurt over it. I'll stay home before if it bothers me that bad. Lol
  8. So you're not a fan of local football, you haven't attended a game this year but you get on a local football forum and run your mouth. To that I say.....Get a life.
  9. Martinsville played a great game. Congrats to the players and staff. You have a great group of young men. Be careful on the trip home.
  10. Graham's starting TE is 5'1" a buck 15. But he is some kind of mean....
  11. I hope the Giles horn gets used more than the Appo horn!
  12. That's good to hear. It's nice to hear about kids like this doing well and continuing what they love to do at the college level. When I was in school wrestling wasn't a popular sport at all, I barely remember Graham having a program. I got my boys involved in it a couple of years ago and they love it. My favorite part is there is no drama.
  13. To me Allen had two problems that hurt the program. One was discipline for sure. Two years ago he had a fairly talented group of kids and he allowed them to run the show. I believe they ended that season .500 and had the talent to be better than that. Secondly, I don't think he accepted any input from his assistant coaches at all. From what I understand Williams was like that at Graham. When you're an outsider and come into a program that you know absolutely nothing about the kids humbling yourself just a little bit will go a long ways with the staff. Right now Tazewell is going to put all their eggs in one basket with the upcoming middle school team. When that team doesn't play in the state championship like the almighty '86 team they'll be looking for another coach. I would like to see those kids get a taste of success but I don't see the administration, parents, or community having enough patience to allow it to happen.
  14. How are the teams from SWVA going to be this year?
  15. If he's not a puppet then there is probably no need for him to apply.
  16. Sounds like Coach Turner may be a good guy that possibly knows a thing or two about football. So I would say he probably wouldn't be a good fit. They are trying to find someone that can make the parents, kids, town council, teachers, principal, and the local dog catcher happy on a yearly basis and win state championships starting with his first year. Some of the parents want the head coach at the MS now, some want a current assistant, and some want an assistant at Graham now. Basically as someone stated earlier this is going to get really muddy.
  17. South Dakota is nice. If you like to pheasant hunt it's paradise. We go out there every year to pheasant hunt. It's a blast. Good luck to you.
  18. I'm not sure Tazewell would be a good "stopping place" for a resume. At this point Tazewell High School football is where coaching careers go to die. I'm hearing they want a current Graham coach or the current Tazewell middle school coach. The kids there are long overdue for a taste of success. Just not sure the community is willing to stick it out for the growing pains.
