Hmmm i see they only scored 18 points for the majority of their games .

Three games out of 13 we were held u see 14 points. And still won. Twice against a stingy Richlands team with no quit in em and once against a 6A Tennessee Morristown West. If three is a majority of 13, then sure. We only allow 10 per game though.

I’m not really sure of the point u were trying to make Sir

Edit:  I see where u mentioned u read the wrong line.  No worries.

C'mon man that's not even in same realm lol. Union knew they could crush LCC, they just had to tighten up. There was very little pressure. Now, there's pressure out the wazoo. Union has proven to be mentally tough, but I'm sure the players remember last year. If Union can start fast it's moot, but if not I hope they don't start getting tight and pressing.

I agree. You stated what I was going for. Their resolve has been tested. Yeah they were confident at lcc. But six players didn’t dress that game either. Adversity overcame. That’s the only reason for lcc being mentioned. Travis has not forgot last year. He’s a Turner. Adjustments will be made. I bet he’s watch tons of film to ensure last year doesn’t repeat itself.

That's unfortunate. Mitchell Stadium was just like this till a few years ago. Old concrete stadium. They had to make improvemens for accessible seatingon both sides. Honestly watching a game from a track and the only view you get is the backsides of players, coaches, and fans isn't much of an experience.

Don't take this as a slam towards you or anyone else on here. Maybe this is an issue that may be corrected in the future with the right leadership.

The leadership at the school would attack this if it were able. The town of big stone owns bullitt park. Town council would have to vote and budget for upgrades. I’m all for that. Don’t get me wrong please. The town is currently installing a youth baseball complex for tourneys soon. I pray that money generated from that could improve seating at Bullitt Park.

Well, that stinks.  Would love to come and support the Bears but definitely would rather not sit on the track.  And I am definitely not going to sit on the Appo side lol.

Just from my view from the visitors side, it looks like a ramp brings you up to the home stands.  Just no room for a wheelchair to sit at the front of the bleachers?

    Thanks for info!!

Just my 2 cents, the "grandfathered" in stuff is for the birds!!!  Unfortunately it happens all over the place!

I contacted the school about this question. Seems the track is the preferred spot. Bullitt is an old stadium dating back to before the 50’s. Concrete bleachers make adjustments difficult unfortunately.

Thanks for the respect, but what do you base your anology on, most games that are not blow outs are not decided until late in the game, and being a Richlands fan I'll point to RHS vs Graham (overtime), RHS vs Marion (4th 2:00 minutes on the clock), RHS vs VH ( late in the 4th) RHS vs Blk Burg. late in 3rd quarter, RHS vs W Byrd 2nd half.  None of these games were decided in the first quarter.  The only games decided in the first quarter is when you have a lopsided match and one team is far superior to the other.  That's not the case in this game, so how can you say it will be decided in the first quarter?

I think he meant assert their will in the first qtr. setting tempo early is how I’m reading into it. Hope that helps. If we don’t install our game plan early and let them get there going, it could be bad. But that goes for both teams.

I'm sorry, but there is no wheelchair accessible seating on the home stands. They really need some, but I suppose are "grandfathered" in. Some folks that I have seen in wheelchairs or scooters usually watch the game from the track on either side of the home stands. Although it's not a very good view as it's at field level.

The visitor bleacher have the handicap accessible seating. But we would rather have our Blues friends with us. There is handicap parking along the fence but it does fill up quick. Get there as the gates open and u can park inside the Park. Praying for safe travels for all.

    I'm sorry, Ryan.

BearDawg, was that the '96 State Championship? That was my first visit to Bullitt.  I parked at the Baptist Church and sat on portable bleachers in the NE end zone.  The best thing that day was watching Appy utterly dominate Surry County.

The next best thing was watching the Surry County Band's half-time show.  It was awesome watching the distinctive style and tradition of the predominately African-American marching band.  At the beginning of the show, most fans were watching politely while a few idiots were mocking the band.  By the end, the band had the crowd on their feet and applauding in appreciation.

Our team won state at Bullitt in 1992. I was at the 1996 game as well. You are exactly right on your assessment of the Surry co band. I’ve shared that story many times. They. Killed. It!  Very impressive routine.

I hope if Union does fall behind 7-14 points, the wheels don't come off. Momentum and state of mind are huge. Appo knows they can win if they get down a score or two (although they haven't been down much at all, maybe same goes for them?) I hope Union can play with same confidence. The defense is good enough to get a couple stops and allow the offense to get back into a rhythm, I just hope the kids aren't in their heads.

If Union can get good movement from the OL and tackle in space, they can keep it close and win. If not, could be another long day.

Union fell behind at letcher county a couple times I. The first half. Our first game without Turner under center. But they rallied and found their resolve and hammered them the second half. Shit down and very good passing qb with speedy WRs also. I’d rather not be behind though lol.

  9. Bullitt Park!  Best home field advantage?  I played at Appy. Walking down those steps in the metal tip cleats felt amazing. And enjoyed seeing it after I graduated. Play at Bullitt vs PV and won a state title there. There is indeed magic in the Park. What are your thoughts as to some of the best stadiums that give their team the home field advantage?

I didn’t. To be honest what worries me. The Richland game with 2:00 to go in game bears had scored 6 points ended up with only 13 . That will not beat Appomattox!

In all fairness, Richlands has the benefit of playing us every year and twice this year. Yes we are one dimensional. We put up nearly 300 yards rushing per game. Appo is admittedly weak against the run and cover the pass well. They have speed. Graham did too. Richlands defense could be better than Appos defense. Their record is t a reflection but the scores of their games are. And 13 may not be enough, unless we hold them to our game average of 10ish.

They traveled very well to Salem for the title game last year. Not sure about the long haul to BSG, though.

I was going by what I had read some of their people post on that other forum recently. Sounds like their home attendance has been dropping every game. But it’s playoffs and they may pick it up.

I am considering going to this game.  What time would I have to arrive to get a seat?  Either side is fine but I don't really enjoy standing and watching at field level.  Good luck to the Bears!

Gates will open at 1pm. Better be in line then. I’ve heard appo doesn’t travel well. I have no clue so don’t hold me to that. Our side fills up pretty fast. But if in line u may be able to snag a stray spot.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this Appo. Team Pretty much the same team that beat the us last year 42-0? I just don’t want to get pumped up now and over look another humiliation.

They also graduated something like 21 seniors last year. Don’t quote me on the number but it should be close.

I'm gonna try passing it along, but I think some Giles fans would be upset about it and Union might have some superstitious fans that don't want change lol.

Anybody wanting to come cheer us on, come on. More than welcome to hang with us. I keep a couple seats next too me when I get there. Tonight, I saw Ridgeview, Tazewell, Lee, and Central in our stands so we r good with visitors. Safe travels.

This was by far the worst game Graham has played, but Union had a lot to do with that.  I would say that Bluefield and Union would be a whale of game.  I wish Graham would have made a better showing.  Game plan for Graham sucked... But Union has a very good team.

You sir, have my respect. Great season for Graham.

So...uh...who’s saving me a seat and a spot at the fire? I’ll be there with bells on, and I’m bringing two of my Richlands cowbells to help make sure Appo hates what they’re about to be a part of.

Come on pal. Meeting at midnight at the flagpole gate.

Appomattox hates noise makers, Union is proving their home of the 12th man and they play to defend the park, it's a different outcome this year I believe folks, they said Richlands could knock us off, they didn't, they then said Marion, and then Graham could. They didn't. All you local community people come out next weekend and pull for the Bears. I seen ALOT various school colors today. Proud to see you guys out supporting a local team, hope to see you all back next weekend.

Well said. Team is playing solid and tough. I said we would beat any team in the region by 3 scores. Richlands played rock solid but the rest held. If we keep digging, we can dethrone Appo.

Less than 24 hours to go. I stated before the Richlands playoff game that it was the most excited I've ever been for a high school game, this blows it away. I look for the park to be rocking. If any of you Graham fans (or Union fans for that matter) want to come chat just come to the front of the pass gate. I'll be there along with @Union's hammer and @BearDawg along with many more interesting characters!

Absolutely. Fire will be burning and conversations flowing.

Well to the point of being a coach at a small school compared to bigger schools and wins Vs loses let's look at the history books of swva football.  Coach Tom Turner for the Appalachia bulldogs was a 300 plus win coach with multiple state titles and probably never had half the talent on his sideline compared to the teams he faced.  Tom could take a hand full of boys from little coal camps and play Iron Man football and beat schools like gate city,  Powell Valley,  etc. And in years that teams like gate city and Powell Valley beat appy it was seldom a blow out.  If a coach like Tom Turner had the talent that rolled through Powell Valley and gate city he would have won 10 or state championships in my humble opinion.  I've seen mid 90s appy teams with 30 kids that could kick the crap out of just about any team today due to there sheer toughness and coach Tom turners ability to fire em up.

Well said.  And I agree 100%!
