You guys need to understand, I worked in the golf business for 20 years, turf grass management is second nature to me.  If you plan on using that field in six weeks, it won't be ready for play.  You'll get large chunks of short root sod kicked up all over the place.  And, ironically, bermuda grass requires well drained soil to perform it's best...GC's field is more like a sponge.  If we have a wet July/August like we've had in June, those are not optimal conditions for bermuda grass root growth and you'll have a bigger mess come the middle of August.

We know all about facilities management at GC. You should see our Sports Complex; you’d think it had never been used.

On Thursday, Slemp said the comments, stapler-throwing and alleged hitting of the student were all inappropriate. Given the student’s testimony on the stapler incident and the length of time that had passed between the alleged hitting and its reporting, Slemp said neither incident could have been prosecuted,

“We do not set policy for schools or school districts,” Slemp said. “When something is brought to us, we examine it to see if a victim has been harmed in a way that is criminal in nature. We recognize that this conduct is clearly something that the school board or administration should address. However, inappropriate action does not always rise to the level of criminal activity.”

Copied word for word from the article. The criminal investigation found his behavior “inappropriate” but not rising to the level of a crime. Not exactly “not guilty” and certainly not the behavior that should ever be allowed in our public school system!

I wasn’t aware of those incidents. Brings up a separate set of questions. I’ll save board space for folks that know more about it.

Guys, if he was saying sexual stuff to high school girls, he deserves to be fired. End of story.

This isn't about #MeToo or anything else, it's about protecting young girls from being sexually harassed or objectified by a teacher or someone in authority.

It's not appropriate and it's not okay. If he didnt, then he has every right to defend himself. But the number one concern shouldn't be his job or status as a football coach, it should be keeping creeps or worse out of schools and away from young people.

How about we not presuppose the man is guilty, especially in light of the fact that he was investigated by multiple agencies & found not guilty? No one is pro-sexual harassment but a three year old settled complaint is an altogether different animal.

  4. If I was a high school teacher I wouldn’t even speak to a female student unless it was 1. Specifically about academics or 2. There was 50 witnesses around. Too much liability. This #metoo shit’s done got out of hand.

Dont go counting those wins just yet because anything can happen. Last years game if it had not been for 2 bad calls the outcome might have been different down on Battle Hill.

Those 2 blown calls must have been TDs; Battle got shut out.

I am a proud Gate City Alum and have made several contributions to the well being of Gate City Football, However I do not live in a world of delusion and the very thought of a head coach leaving a program, where he will be a contender for his conference title and has a 70% chance to make it to the playoffs is delusional. I have watched Sullivan North for years and Patrick is a good coach, but Copas on that staff is the star! So Grapy keep thinking delusional stuff and posting it, but one has to ask the question sometimes, as Chris Martin sang "Am I part of the cure or part of the disease" !!!!!!!!

You’re right; why would anyone leave a program that is guaranteed to be undefeated in 2020? 😂

You do bring up a very valid point in North closing, but remember, Tennessee has no state income tax. That could offset the perceived higher salary in VA vs TN.

It’s not perceived; anyone can look at it on the respective sites. I know Sullivan County has far better health insurance - I guess that is what cost us Robbie Norris in 2016. Good point about taxes, though.

Why would Coach Patrick leave the head coaching job at Sullivan North and be an assistant at Gate City! this is one of the dumbest statements anyone has ever made on this message board and that's saying a lot!

North is closing. Coach Patrick might be a HC in 2020, but it won’t be his current post. Additionally, Scott County Schools’ compensation is quite a bit higher than Sullivan County’s. You guys shouldn’t spend so much time being upset over GC; we don’t think of you at all.

  9. Coaches would be fools not to recruit, especially for schools near state boarders (Bluefield, Bristol, etc.). Houseright should have hired super popular middle school coaches from Bloomingdale & Church Hill to siphon away players. Would have loved it if Houseright added Preston Patrick to the staff. Good on coaches & players for taking ownership of the process, as opposed to “I played at Po-Dunk High because that’s where my mom could afford rent”.
