No one in the state lost their minds as bad as Kelly Wilmore (Grayson county superintendent) did when that field goal bounced over. Especially after stating that his coach when he hired them had never lost to Galax and wouldn’t in the future.
Thoughts on that last play before halftime for Essex?
I've watched it about 20x, I can't see the kid step out and it appears that he knocks over the pylon, looks like a TD but official said that he was stopped short.
Wondering what everyone else thought?
Congratulations to Galax, glad they got the win!
Shouldn’t of never been a play anyway. The half should of ended after the prior play.
To drop 49 the week prior to winning the State championship with two safeties and field goal that bounced across the cross bar. You can make this stuff up. I need a drink and I don’t drink.
Any Spartans attending the second game can come up to the top of the bleachers at the 20 closest to the scoreboard. We’re forming a “Spartans for Maroon Tide” section.
Greatly appreciated Sir . We are going to need all the help we can get.
A couple things blatantly obvious this first half. CCC is a stud which we all knew. Clark is special, special. And these announcers are so RH biased it’s horrid
Having to have watched Galax play Riverheads for the past 7 years I cannot explain just how Freaking maddening it is to defend that offense. You stop it and they make a slight blocking adjustment and bust a long run. To beat Riverheads you have to be able to run against them. So Radford will have to mix it up and be successful when they have the ball, as they won’t get it often.
Galax has a "freight train" with Tucker. He was the difference maker and the train to Salem went through him. I think Union can relate to this with Clements last week. But as we seemingly know, one week's win doesn't always translate to a win the following week.
Congrats to the Tigers for a great season.
Congrats to the Galax MAROON TIDE as they travel to Salem.
You guys had a great team. Very explosive offense - nothing to hang their head about.
I will say Honaker had as explosive of an offense that I have seen in quite a while. Although Galax’s line wore on the big boys up front and Tucker was just punishing people today.
Scuttlebutt is Honaker coach stated on a podcast that he felt really good about the matchup as he didn’t think Galax should be there! He may very well win but wow big statement about a perennial team in the semis - Bold move Cotton let’s see how that works out for him.
Also though if Galax sends pressure if Honaker recognizes it presnap they can find the matchup that best suites them ahead of time. Whether it be through the air or on the ground. Lowe is such an ace in the hole on both sides of the ball. Narrows put up points being dynamic on offense. If Galax is one dimensional its going to be much harder to gain ground with 9 in the box.
Lol Galax has been so one dimensional all year they would probably have to call a time out and reassess if they saw less than 9 in the box.
From the game film I have seen Honakers whole offense is based on finding a mismatch and exploit it on-a play. They will change the play at the line frequently trying to do that.
Honaker is a high flying offense that certainly has talent. On defense they are big across the front. Galax is Galax so it will be an interesting match up.
Redtiger made an outstanding point that RH had got to coast into the finals each year since really 2016. As they had a first round bye plus the competition I the regionals will be better than the past.
Sixcat made this point several times in here - the gap between 2A and 1A is light years wider between the two this year than it has been in the past
in my opinion this could help RH if they make it to the final game as it make them more prepared.
Congrats to Coach Allen on job well done under difficult circumstances. Grayson was a mess offensively...... IMO very poorly coached on that side of ball. Had 12 weeks to come up with a offensive scheme with the best skill in region and relied on random big plays and special team scores.
Galax rattled them early and the QB and coach struggled the rest of the night. Galax dominated the line of scrimmage all night- something they did not do the first game
This is not a knock on Riverhead or Giles although their offenses can cover up alot of talent issues (if there is any)just be shear schemes. Much easier to block a D lineman at angles with help and you are just trying to get them turned a certain way than straight up try and man handle a DT with a gap assignement by yourself
