  2. I can't imagine Graham tried too much. Get the win and no injuries.
  3. I'd say Chilhowie and Ridgeview. They we're both picked to do what they've went out and done and that's win. Granted Ridgeview won't win the district but their only loss is to a 3A team. They had the bullseye on their backs all year and stepped up to the challenge.
  4. Hurley has already played last night and won so I'd pick them if I were you all.
  5. It sounds like you have described yourself in a lot of what you just posted trying to poke at an entire fan base. You literally just created an account so you could weigh in on something that has to do with GC football. I sense a lot of hostility towards GC as a whole in your comment. Is it fair to say, based on your own opinion, you wished you could have played at GC but since you didn't you've never recovered from the missed opportunity? It's a strong opinion from a keyboard pusher right?
  6. As long as there is some type of improvement being made, the majority of the fans will support whoever the coach is. I would much rather be 9-1 and losing in the playoffs then never being in contention or a threat to make them. With that said, I do agree that Akers should be left alone, for he has stepped aside and is no longer the coach at GC. Whoever the new coach is needs to focus on the LL program and get that back to running the way it should be and get away from the travel team. That and a good offseason program and I truly believe GC will be a much more competitive team in 2-3 years.
  7. I would think Union would want to avoid Graham and/or Ridgeview as long as possible. I think if I was them I'd be rooting for Grayson Co. that way they are the 3 seed and avoid Graham and Ridgeview until the championship game, if they were to make it. I don't know enough about Grayson Co. to know if their record is deceiving or not. Richlands is possible to have an upset with the right matchup as well.
  8. Hilarious! I've not seen that. I'll be more surprised if VT ends up going to a bowl game then I will if they don't. Hate to say that but this years team is too inconsistent.
  9. 1. Bluefield 2. Pulaski 3. Chilhowie 4. Graham 5. Abingdon 6. Ridgeview 7. Grayson County 8. Union 9. Galax 10. Radford
  10. So if it weren't for Coach Reed, Abingdon would be the 3A version of Appomattox?
  11. Depends on how low of a seed Graham ends up in. Regardless if they're a 2 or a 4, there won't be much of a surprise if they represented Region D this season.
  12. Or maybe he coached for! He won 2 state championships as an assistant if I'm not mistaken, or at least one that I know of, and countless playoff experience.
  13. I would say that about whoever was the coach during that timeframe
  14. Anyone who thinks Reed had little to do with any of the success they've had during his time there is oblivious to reality. That was a good group of kids that played but they needed the right leadership and he was apparently it.
  15. I'm not advocating for Coach Reed but I'm all ears on examples of what you're talking about. His last head coaching job took a team that was good for maybe 2-3 wins a season to a playoff team. Before that was at central and nothing else needs to be said about that because when have they ever been relevant in something other than girls basketball.
  16. Very intriguing matchup between two very good football teams. I would give an edge to Burton in this one but expect it to be a 4th quarter game.
  17. GC will make it back, it's just a matter of when. I don't see it in the next year or two but I do see GC becoming more competitive quicker than expected.
  18. My honest opinion is that it hurts Abingdon more than it hurts the other 2A's because of competition. Yea the Unions, Richlands and Ridgeviews are good 2A programs but that doesn't prepare Abingdon enough for the playoffs when they go up against the bigger schools. As far as travel goes, it would be unfair to Abingdon if they were forced to play in a bigger conference. Abingdon is where they belong and that should be that.
  19. Ah, kinda I guess. When a program is bad and you bring a winning work ethic, you're going to make some people upset. He may have brought a style that some couldn't handle but a lot could. It's the same that will require GC to get back to their winning ways. It's not just X's and O's but in the offseason in the weight room and conditioning. Whoever the new coach may be at GC, if they bring a winning attitude and work ethic that some that are there now aren't used to, they may not like the new coach either.

  21. Listen, Abingdon is big and strong............ right now!! This is all Darren Reed's doing. They are still benefiting from his short time there.
  22. Comparing VHS to Union's schedule isn't a contest. I think the fact that Morristown West is a 6A school is why some may imply that was an impressive win. They aren't good at all this season and you can't say just because they're 6A means that they are better than most. TN High is better than them. Graham is better than LCC and Chilhowie is better than Burton.
