Ok now the Baptist is coming out in me lol. Competition is a good thing. This world has gotten so soft that everyone wants everything handed to them and not have to work for it. Not too far in the past when you won a state title it really meant you were the best in the state. In the 70s you played schools MUCH bigger than you. I go to games now and find it hard to hear pads pop anymore. The desire and drive seem to be missing. Now every team has a few throwbacks. Shame on you or anyone else who wants to cheapen this Mountain 7 title for Abingdon. And for the record I am not from Abingdon. These kids and coaches have put in the work and it is well deserved. You are doing the future generating of us arm chair qbs no justice by crying on the internet. And the church said AMEN.
My problem with it is, its bad timing to complain now about it after a loss when you said you have been thinking about it for awhile. Just looks bad. I completely understand being pissed off after a loss, but listen.....the odds of any of these kids going pro is slim to none. In the big bad game we call life, things are not always fair. You will get skipped over for a promotion for bosses friend or stuff like that. This is doing nothing but showing the kids that when something dont go your way cry about it. Its like welfare, if we as adults dont stop the foolishness then it will be a never-ending cycle. Remember....its how yiu respond as opposed to react.
I understand the O.P.’s point and I don’t buy that Abingdon has a 500 person special ed program. (I know that’s not exactly what has been said, but you get my point I’m sure.) However they handed RV their tail physically on a level that was almost embarrassing. They served up more pancakes than the Huddle House beside the marijuana dispensary. One pack player got drove back 14 yards and then got ‘caked. Another got pancaked so hard he’s out for the season. Not a big hit just a ground into the dirt pancake block. Hard to argue with that kind of whipping.
Nobody complains when the Mountain 7 teams beat Abingdon like last year, and they end up with bonus points for beating a bigger school.
Plus, the comparison of school size versus a 4 year age difference in teenagers is asinine. Now, if Abingdon’s varsity were playing M7 JV teams, then yeah.
I really hate the fact I’ve been forced to defend Abingdon. Bearcats hate Falcons and vice versa 🤣
Now this i can agree with. 9 was just getting ready to post that its no different then playing Morristown or any other school with a higher classification. I do think its good to play them. I just wish VHSL would alow them to drop down.
But really he does have a Point. Just because of the special ed enrollment puts them over the numbers. Sorry bout it. As i see it, it really doesn't help either side. Mnt 7 teams have to play a AAA school and like this yr get beat but it also doesn't really prepare Abingdon for 3A playoffs.
Not just offence but defense play calling also. Why did it take a wgile half to figure out you had to put 5 down linemen to stop the run. Then got out of the 5 man front just to get gutted again. Yes bad calls were made but should not be in a position to be that close to where refs determine outcome of game. Got OUTPLAYED and OUT COACHED bottom line.
As someone who works there, they aren’t going to do one every week. Maybe one or two a season, If the game is right. But it would likely never come to SWVA.
And I will say this. Coach Amburgey is a class act. Supper nice guy and will do great things at Abingdon. Maybe if things shake up at Central he can return home to wise.
Coaches were NOT prepared for Abingdon. In fact defense hasnt been same since Union game. Trying to get Adkins the ball last 2 games when teams were keying on him. Last week when they FINALLY got Sexton ball he had well ober 100 yds on 11 carries and didnt touch ball until 2nd half.
Can confirm. It will be live on the Tri-Cities CW. We’ve had it planned for a while but I wasn’t allowed to say anything. I know PJ, Casey and the gang are excited to broadcast one from Bullitt.
I thought earlier this season it was said that WCYB will NEVER do a VA game. Why all of a sudden are they going to do one?
