  1. Marion returns every skill position on offense that started the last 2 games of the season and only has to replace 2 lineman. They did lose 2 pretty good D line man and a run stopping safety on defense but they had a freshman class of 20 last year. If they hire the right head coach they should be improved for sure.
  2. If they hire from within the region could we see a domino effect that we saw last year? Pulaski gets Radfords head coach Radford takes Crist from VA high VA high takes Patterson from Holston Holston steals the great Akers away from Fort Fort scrambles until 2 weeks before the season starts
  3. Is John Battle too bad to mention in the M7??
  4. I agree Webb should be in the conversation as well. He may have been just as important to his team success as Harris was for Tazewell. I will say that Richlands was much better up front than Tazewell though. If we want to throw another snub in there what about Carson Jenkins. What is Gate City's record with out that kid. I know he wasnt a pure WR because they where about 70% single wing but damn that boy is a pure football player! 2D had some absolute studs this year at the skill positions. We can all look back on the year and be happy that we got to witness all this talent in one place for one season. Plus I really enjoy arguing who is the best of the best this year because there is plenty to choose from!
  5. First off no one on here ever said Beavers wasnt a stud because the kid is an amazing high school ball player. Anyone with over 1,000 yard and 10 scores is a great ball player. I would say he is right on par with Harris which is what the all state teams show. However.. I only saw one game RV played and they were not is 10 personnel the whole game. They spent probably half of the game is 11 which to UVAs point make it much easier to double your opponents best player because you still have numbers in the box. Harris mostly played in the slot which mean if you try to bracket him you are doing so with a linebacker in his face and safety over top which is nice and all but there isnt a backer in SWVA keeping up with Harris. Beavers I believe play out wide (I could be wrong) but a corner pressed and safety help deep is a lot easier to do than when the guy is 3 yards from the tackle. And I am NOT a fan of Tazewell at all but I do respect good scheme and players and if you think there is one DC that was on Tazewell's schedule that sat in Sunday meetings and said "Tazewell's passing attack is trash so we are just gonna load the box to stop the run" then you are nuts man because Tazewell had zero run game this year.
  6. That is where is disagree in the voting honestly. You have be a great player with great talent round you that make you look a lot better. IMO if you take Bradshaw off of Graham they are still in the region championship game at the very least. Beavers as great as he is still had enough talent around him that Ridgeview is still possibly a 2nd round playoff team, at the very least they still finish 3rd in the M7. If you take Harris off of Tazewell they win 2 games
  7. The Beavers kid is a stud for sure and Harris had more opportunities because of the air raid system that Tazewell ran. I still think it is more impressive to catch over 100 balls on shorts routs and making things happen after the catch than using God given speed to just blow past people
  8. Bradshaw is better.. He is a legit Power 5 guy and I think he will do well at Tech if he keeps his nose clean and focuses on football (not saying he is in trouble a lot that goes for any kid from a small high school going to play college ball) with that being said Harris is pretty good too he not on the level of Bradshaw but when you catch as many balls as he did this year even though he played in a happy system I personally think that is first team material. If I am voting on a all state team and one kid breaks a VHSL record and he is the reason his team even made the playoffs even though they got bounced in the first round, He would get my vote over a more talented kid that was surrounded by great talent and hes team had a great play off run. I think both players should have been first team. The Southwest district may have been the most loaded district in the state as far as receiver talent this year. Bradshaw from Graham, Webb from Richlands, Harris from Tazewell, Poku Va high, and Langston from Marion all had great years and and any given year would have been 1st team all region at the very minimum.
  9. If they are looking at stats how is breaking a VHSL record not get you first team all state!! That honestly blows my mind
  10. I don’t see the issue with teams that had just enough success to make the playoffs an extra week of practice for those younger players. Are they gonna get their teeth kicked in by Graham and or Union yes but more practice is never a bad thing. It one reason why team that make it deep in the playoffs every year have good team regardless of who they lost those young players and getting 2 or 3 weeks of practice that other teams didn’t
  11. Yes Logan Langston DB/WR (maybe) Matthew Nelson (DE) Landon Mabe (OL) Drew Frazier (OL) Ricky Carroll (LB) Trenton Watkins (LB) Hard to get much first team love when you go 1-9 but Langston is coming back and had 40+ receptions and 450 ish yards and 4 scores most years would be a strong candidate for 1st team but not when you have Bradshaw, Webb and Harris. Nelson had 9 or 10 sacks and 15+ TFLs but once again 1-9 team. Marion returns 5 guys that caught 20+ balls along with the QB and RB. IF they have a good offseason they could surprise some people next fall
  12. Any offensive schemes works if you have the right kids to run it and or have a coach that can coach it. RC just doesn’t have great athletes l. From what I’ve seen they need to be in a ground and pound time offense. Motioning the oline every other play is a new one to me but I never played in a single wing so maybe that’s something that works. It’s just hard to compete when you have 17 kids when you have teams in the same classification that have 35. They need a coach that can get kids out. They can run the air raid if they want if they have a dude that knows it and can get that program up to 30 kids
  13. Carroll was 2-0 against GC while he was at Marion. His offense put up 96 points in those 2 games. He seems to have that offense and lee clicking even those it is against lesser competition. I think it will be a high scoring affair. Lee-42 Carson Jenkins- 49
  14. I agree the cost is crazy! But if you have the money I dont see why you wouldnt unless you have a great grounds crew that can keep Bermuda grass in top shape then I would go turf if you had the money. I dont think loose turf is going to hurt tazewells passing attack honestly that would probably hurt both teams the same where Sage Webb is Richlands best players. A wet ball on the other hand would probably be bad news for the dawgs in this one
  15. I personally loved playing on turf you know you will have solid footing all the time and you dont have to worry about slipping and sliding in mud or worst after a mud game having ruts all in your field. Now has there been some kids try to cut and there foot get stuck yes but they same sort of thing can happen in a mud bowl game. Honestly I have never seen the dust that you are talking about. There are rubber pellets by the hundreds that you pour out of your cleats but thats it. The turf field allows you to practice and play in any kind of rain which is worth the extra money. Also every turf field I have seen actually has hashes in the middle of the field. As far as the game goes I am interested to see which Richlands team shows up, The one that hammered Gate City or the post covid team. If its the one we have seen the last few weeks Tazewell could be able to hurt them with their passing attack which by the numbers is deadly. However I havnt seen either team play in a while.
  16. The have a lot of speed all over the place and the QB can sling it
  17. Lebanon wins this one by just having more numbers alone. Northwood has a scrapy team but it is very hard to win with 18 on the team. I just hope they get to finish the game and its not a throw in the towel at half time situation like Rye Cove had last week
  18. Im all for giving a a big guy that kind of love. Thats what I played in backed in the day and I agree the game is won or lost in the trenches most of the time. However 1 guy doesnt make a great O line you have to have 5 dude that work together on every single play. I think Stevie does more with less than anyone in in the region. Hell that kid gets touched in the back field and still is capable of scoring every time he touches the ball. An O lineman will never get POY mostly because you have to look at a unit as a whole
  19. IMO Stevie is should be the POY in region D that kid has done more for the VA high program in the last 4 years than any kid I have seen. Now that he has some help with a passing game he is even more lethal. He might be the hardest kid to tackle in the region because he is so hard to get a clean hit on him.
  20. Their best chance is to feed Jenkins keep the ball out of Lomax's hands and not throw the ball at all. If they have to throw it the game is over. GC has to dominate TOP and have 10 to 12 play drives. GC is a tough team that has the best player on the field most nights. That might not be the case this week I havnt seen Lomax play at all but I would say closer than people think
  21. This inst the worst Northwood team they have ever fielded but depth is a major issue.. Chilhowie continues to win game after they graduate studs from the year before. Not having Gilley will not hurt them in this one.
  22. I was just looking at the games that were postponed due to covid. It didnt say if they had made moves or which team had it. But I do agree rematches kinda suck
  23. Chilhowie, either bland or rural retreat, and JI burton or twin springs
  24. I would agree Chilhowie is tough to top as far as community support. It is crazy how much school in the same county differ... I also think Tazewell and Richlands are up there as well both of those towns are green and blue respectively. Gate City is usually up there as well considering the away stands usually have more blue than the opposing teams color. As far as the game I would like to say Tazewell walks away with this one and should win it big. From what I have seen battle is way down 4 short years ago they have 40 to 50 on the team but the last few year the numbers have been way low and a lot of kids have quit mid season. However they did start the year off strong in the spring so crazier things have happened.
  25. Richlands has some beef up front and from what a heard so does Abingdon. So I guess the question for this game is whos big boys are better?
