I am not sure why teams in this area continue to schedule Auburn and Bland especially late in the season like this
-
Still very back end heavy

With a wife and kids being head coach of two sports would be a strain. More power to him if he wants to take that on.
-
Doing both is a lot to put on one guy especially at the 2A level. Possible yes, enjoyable absolutely not! Unless your life is high school sports but you really wouldn’t have time for anything else if you do both sports right

Changing out coordinators and assistants is not as easy as it sounds. This the rural football man there arnt a ton of qualified assistants out there to begin with. If you do have someone that wants to do it they almost have to be a teacher (which is not for the faint of heart and we have a major shortage of) or have a job that lets you off a 3 everyday which is hard to come by because you can live off the 2 grand you get paid to actually coach. Speaking of that coordinator don’t get paid anymore by the school system than your normal assistant so there arnt a ton of guys jumping to take on that extra work for no extra pay to get called a every name in the book on Friday nights from the stands. Your schools like Union and Chilhowie with 15 coaches on staff are the exception not the rule. There are plenty of schools out there that would kill to have half of that volunteer help. Great staffs have around 8 guys that know what they are doing that work together all moving in the same direction and they are there every day. Average staffs have 4 or 5 there everyday with some fillers on game day. I would around 40% of the schools in this area have a head coach and maybe one coordinator that know their stuff and spend more time teaching assistants than coaching kids just so they can run an half way productive practice

I actually overlooked Lebanon because I forgot they jumped back up to 2A and the southwest district. I would say If you could replace Lebanon and Grayson you would be in good shape. The issue is being in the smallest division you cant play down only up. Bland and Auburn would be great additions to a schedule if you where looking for wins but there is no guarantee you actually get to play them before they fold unless you play them very early but I would not schedule them if I was an AD. I've heard that this job was a step down or get let go sort of deal which explains the tone of the article talking about how 25 of his 37 losses came to teams that made it to the second round of the playoffs. Considering that this is a rare occurrence in this area (being let go for performance on the field) It makes me think they want to swing big for the next hire. I don't see a first time head coach getting a shot at this one.

I don't know a ton about Rural Retreat I know they usually are a tough well coached team. I would have to disagree on the tough non conference though. East Montgomery should be a win just about ever year. Fort Chiswell and George Wythe are not going anywhere because they are in the same county if nothing else you have to play them because of the easy travel. The only game that I would try to change is Grayson but they are going to have there down years too. The problem with changing Grayson is who do you replace them with? You are either going to have to play a class 2 school ( which Grayson basically is) or travel further than Grayson county. I am not sure that trade off is worth it.

That game from an entertainment prospective has to be up there for game of the year! at least the second half which is all I watched. Rye Cove is a dang good class 1 team. You could tell from watching team play that are very well coached. On the flip side Grayson has a potent offense. Regardless of what you think about where you think Grayson should be playing, that was a heck of a game plan by Coach James. (for the record I believe its BS they are class 1). That 4th quarter was very fun to watch though if you like offense/

If they are anything like South Marion Princeton should be fine

I agree when a stadium is rocking it is great atmosphere especially when you are the home team! There arnt many places in SWVA with a great home field advantage Union is one of the few. I would put gate city up there too
-
I thought the VHSL did ban artificial noisemakers or is that just volleyball
-
No not at all! big time PI call against Union there
-
Great effort by the RV kid to punch that ball out on long Union TD run Union up 21-14 3:45 left
-
If it wasn’t for the 20 horns blaring with Ridgeview has the ball
-
When did that game start?
-
Is the snow going to change any of these games? I hope it doesn’t but I can see some people pulling the trigger
-
Grundy's QB will do the same. I would not be surprised if combined they don't surpass 400 yards on the ground

It has been uncharacteristically warm for November plus the regional playoff format. The main reason to move a game to Saturday is it being too cold to have a decent gate on Friday night or a long bus right. Since this playoff is the playoffs of rematches the travel is no different than the regular season the games are the same time and date as the regular season. This is yet another reason why I liked the east west match up much better than the current set up.

Jesse is going to have a great first 2 years because defenses have to account for Reece throwing the ball. I am sure they have a plan for after he graduates but I have a hard time believing that Lebanon is going to have back to back generational QB's. His junior and Senior season will tell how good he is when everyone is keyed in on stopping him.

No shot that Richlands wins out with Graham as the last game. Even if Marion does win out the best win as far as power points go would be VA High and I think Tazewell would have to lose to Giles Lebanon and Graham to fall out even then it would by the smallest of margin. Central would have a shot if Tazewell loses out but they would have to pull pretty big upsets against Lee and Gate City
-
Reece does not handle pressure well and Lebanons line has improved but not enough to keep the QB up right. The running back is a beast of a kid but its hard to get anything going when you are getting hit in the backfield. IF Graham treats this line a playoff game then they should dominate because they are that good up front. IF they come out like they did against Marion and VA High they will be in for a dog fight. The unsportsmanlike penalties need to be fixed for Graham as well. If they rack a few up those that extend Lebanon drives that could be enough to give the edge to Lebanon

Phil up your backpacks
-
I don’t think the people of Chilhowie would let that happen
-
it is usually an injured player that records this kind of stuff because they are the ones with the cell phones on the side line

I agree more and more we are teaching these kids that they can get away with anything. You see in the classroom and on the field and court. The adults involved have to do a better job of teaching values to these kids instead of this win at all cost mentality. I would rather my team lose a few games and grow up to be pillars of their community than when a state championship while acting like that. With that being said when these teams involved in this trend do not win it all you can point back to this and say this is why.
