  1. Ridgeview will have the best player on the field with Atkins with that being said he is just a sophomore and has a lot of growing up before he is ready to play on Saturday. Also Richlands is not scared of any one player. Richlands under Mance has been the most prepared team in swva since he has been there. Richlands is very good at taking away what you do best. For Ridgeview that is running the ball with there big back and running outside with their speed back. If Richlands can keep them in check it is going to come down to quarterback play and that is not a game Ridgeview wants to get into. Unless the quarterback play has gotten a lot better since mid season then I’m calling the upset for a rematch with Graham for the region title.

  2. I think Graham has way too much speed for Union. While Union has the advantages up front I don’t think the gap is near what it has been in past years. No disrespect to Union but James Mitchell is not going to step foot on that field and Graham will have the best 3 players on the field. Graham defense is a hard hitting bunch, their backers fly around very well and the secondary has 22 ints on the year (in the regular season) and when they do pick the ball off they are looking to score. If Union can shorten the game they have a chance. They also have the advantage of the worst possible visitors dressing situation I have ever seen so that may help. With that being said Graham has proved this year they are not afraid of a helmet with the way they handled the all mighty Richlands I think this is a theme of the season. Graham by 3 scores.

  3. I have not seen Burton play but I know PH is pretty solid upfront on the offensive line. When you have the ability to move people against their will especially in a cold playoff that goes a long way in getting a win. I know PH is far from stout on defense but it’s hard to consistently throw the ball in the cold I would go PH by 2 scores

If Richlands can keep their emotions in check I don't see them losing this one. Rain, snow, sleet or shine.

I didn’t think about that when I post last you have a good point

Just saw Richland roster ...if accurate they have MAJOR size advantage at skill positions.....Grayson skill on both sides very small

It’s not even close but Grayson has some good size and they are a hard nosed bunch

What happened to sucking it up and playing in the rain? I know they want it to be even matched for both teams, but football can’t always be played on a perfect day with sunshine and it be 65!!!  Man things have sure changed over the years!!

It’s all about that money. Most of the players would love to play in a mud bowl but with a schools entire athletic budget depends on the football gate administration will move games for better gates. Your average fair weather fan isn’t sitting in the rain and cold for a football game. Also if you top 2 seed why would you destroy your field in the first round only to play in terrible conditions in the second or have to move you home game to a different field.

We’re u at the game, when VA High played them. 2 of their best players were out!  Va High is the closest thing to a speed team as far as Graham, but that train is hard to stop. If Graham overlooks it will be more than close.

I was not at that game but I’ve seen them play. IMO Tazewell has more overall speed than VA High but VA high is more disciplined and better up front than that Tazewell group. VA High has all kinds of speed in the back field but not anyone that scares you on the outside. There is always a chance especially if it rains and Graham can not connect on deep balls.

1D - Jeff Robinson, Mark Palmer, Nick Johnson

    All are great guys

Jeff Robinson has done a great job not letting all the hype get to his kids head.

Mark Palmer’s PH team really came out of no where for me. Now they don’t play the toughest schedule but they took care of business in those games. They also beat a play off bound battle team and hung 23 on chilhowie which 2 more scores than anyone else could do.

Naa Everyone has their opinion. I just try to look at this year and what they have done.  Not what would have happened or how many times they would have won against some one.  It's playoff time.  Win or go home.  No matter who you have or don't have.  A complete team doesn't depend on one player. I guess it could be said if Chilhowie had scored on the 4 and inches in the state final, the score would have been 14-7 right before half. Then if they hadn't have fumble on the first drive of the second half they might have scored again. If their RB hadn't got hurt in the second quarter. Riverheads beat them, no excuses but that was last year. Over and done with. I try to show respect to all teams.

If Galax is playing to their competition then it should be a good game between the two (if they both make it) because Chilhowie is a legit team. If Galax plays in a lull, Chilhowie will beat them comfortably. However I do give Chilhowie the edge this year.  All they got to do is take care of business like they have been.

If we all played by our opinion or its,  all the teams would have 10 or 11 different championships..lol

Well said sir. Chilhowie caught a few rough breaks in the state championship game last year and Galax didn’t have their best player but that was last year. Chilhowie for sure has not played down to their competition. It would have been easy for a team as loaded at chilhowie this year to lay an egg against a PH or a GW but Coach Robinson has those boys laser focused. I have no clue what region C looks like but with all this hype let’s hope they both make it

  9. Graham has the best athletes in the region and it’s not even close. Speed kills and they have plenty of it. The only thing that will slow them down at far a region D goes is injury, a team dominating them at the line of scrimmage (they are much improved in that department from years past), or a muddy field. VA high has a thunder and lightening back field with Rose and the freshman. The Mulumba kid is a freak on the d line along with #77 but they played before and it wasn’t close I’m not sure how much losing their leader early in the game had to do with that but as long as graham doesn’t over look them it should be the same result.

Chilhowie beat the #3 team in Region D by 35 points, and doubled up (23) the #2 team in Region D.  Those were the only two teams to score more than 10 points on Chilhowie this season.  Galax will be the first real challenge Chilhowie will face (and a challenge they are).

Being able to have one way players is a huge advantage for them considering they are a 1a school. Chilhowie vs PH round 2 might be a good game if Palmer can make adjustments the second time around but I still don’t know if they will help. If everything goes to as it should and everyone stays healthy Chilhowie and Galax should be fun to watch

Does Richlands have good team speed and an accurate QB? If so they stand a very good chance to win. One of the ways Grayson has scored on people this year was people would load the box to stop the run. The QB would get lost behind their big line at the mess point and pop out for a big gain or score.  Galax was able to stop them with just the front 4 and when he did pop it they would run him down.

Galax had receivers running all over the field open all night. So you are correct about the DBs being a weak point.

Richlands doesn’t have over whelming speed but they are always going to be in the right spot so that makes up for it. I think the QB is accurate enough to hurt Grayson outside. Grayson should have some success moving the ball with the veer but Richlands will have all their gaps covered it will be hard to break the long one.

This is a pretty good assessment Jags 52 ....Grayson pass D has given up a ton of yards past 2 weeks.....they just have very little team speed

Thank you, I honestly thing this will be the most competitive game in the first round

  13. Should be a good game. Grayson has a solid front 7 and a stud a middle backer and they are very good at running the split back veer. Richlands also has a well coached front 7 that should be able to shut down graysons offense. If Richlands has time to throw the football they should tear up a weak Grayson secondary. If they try to run the ball it is a toss up game

He said he wasn’t Victor. And I’m a Marion fan and I agree. Who wants to make the playoffs at 4-6? Not trash talking our school, just speaking with a little common sense. 🙄

A team with a losing record probably shouldn’t make the playoffs but Marion can’t help that the playoff system is what it is. So why would you be cheering for your team not  to get in? Do you not think that an extra week of practice wouldn’t help the younger kids on the team? Just speaking with some common sense..

Who's Victor?? I think you've got the wrong person pal. My son is only a year old and I've never had anyone play for Marion so you might wanna get your facts straight.

I guess you just glossed over the fact that you said that Marion didn’t deserve to get into the playoffs but what was Wise Central’s record? Oh yeah 4-6 so if you are going to trash talk a school, their players, and coaches you might want to change your name so you don’t sound like a cry baby like much the gate city fans everyone it tired of.
