  1. Kicking game usually depends on the what the coaches agree on before the game. Most of the time it’s not live. IMO not a waste of time it’s a great opportunity to find much needed depth without anything on the line. Unless you have 60 plus which is almost unheard of the benefit game is the best look you will get before the real deal. I have seen games in the past where both teams keep their starters in until the end of the game trying to win the dang thing.

I honestly hope Tazewell never gets a turf field. I personally like the grass better. I've always liked their field. Their stand may not be the best but the field I like. Tazewell's stadium has that small town Friday night football feel about it. Kinda has the same feeling that Giles has. Just my opinion.

Turf or grass doesn’t matter to me but actually hash marks would be a great touch

losing all five OL from last year it will have to be a different passing game than last year.

Replacing all five lineman is a high blow in high school. That may be a bigger blow than losing the deep threats

I thought he would have been a difference maker last year if they would have played him on D.  He would have been a top 3-4 defender on the team and would have replaced a kid that was often targeted by the opponent's offense.  I've often thought he would have had a future as a LB...likes to hit and has frame to be 6'3", 225-230.

That’s true there is just a few cautionary tales especially if you plan on running the QB a lot just look at VA High last year. All I’m saying is you lose a LB your defense has a hole in it that can be fixed with good coaching. You lose QB1 because he get 20 carries a game and is having to make 15 tackles you get to the end of the year and the kid is a shell of what he started the season at

It's high school....put your best players out there where they can help the team...usually the QB is one of your better players/athletes....play them both ways if he can help you win games

I agree if he can help you win go for it but I started that with if you can get away with it. If you got a kid that you can plug in on D and your QB doesn’t have to play both ways that’s the way to go

Stayed at RV.  Much bigger, stronger and noticeably faster.  Did well running track this spring.  Look for RV to, frankly, run the hell outta him this year.  If they are smart, they’ll use him on defense this year.  Was shocked they didn’t deploy him on D last year.

If you can get away with it I wouldn’t play the starting QB both ways

  7. We are 4 weeks away from the first official practice! Football is almost here.

lets get everyone’s bold predictions for this next season. The bolder the better, let’s say it’s something you you hypothetically bet your own money on.

Second.  Virginia High faced Fleming, KY in 1939 and lost 34-0.

Shame on the Bearcats for scheduling this game.

Looking at the schedules that seems to be the date with Grundy that was double booked with Marion. I’m not sure who’s fault the mix up was but I would rather play a game than play 9 even if it is a cake walk. I really don’t think Patterson is intentionally dodging good teams. They added Ridgeview and Radford to the schedule that is up from what they where playing

I do think that most people never consider the defensive value it provides.  Those DB's and LB's need that coverage time...especially the DBs. I noticed that two years during the Ridgeview/Graham 7v7, Snake Palmer was the most active coach on the field....he was using that time against Ridgeview's WR corp for some class on grass for his DBs.....especially the safeties.  He was the most vocal one out there.

I think if coaches go into these tournaments to win it is a waste of time. If you are playing man cover with 2 high safeties on defense and running 5 verts out of empty then you are wasting your time and the kids. BUT if you are using it as a joint practice with another team and don’t care about the score then it is very useful

I think the biggest question for Graham will be the QB. With Clements probably won’t have to throw an abundance but you need to have that option available. The kid did well at JV level and hopefully adapts to varsity level, he’s only a sophomore but has good genes, Connor Roberts’ younger brother.

I think grahams biggest question mark will be replacing Connor Roberts and anyone else they graduated off that front. That have been the most dominant D lines in the area the past few years. They dominated a few games just snapping the ball to Clements or the Floyd kid last year. If one of those kids can kind of  throw a ball they could pull a Giles and line up in the single wing and roll thru the regular season again

  11. What year is the Hertig? I know he had a brother on the 2021 team. Just curious if he will be back.

Lebanon will be right back on top of the SWD next year IMO

Also if we are making excuses why Auburn lost they could have been looking forward to football season but we all know that is false..

that’s the problem with all the travel ball that’s played now and only playing one sport. I bet that game meant a lot more to Lebanon that Auburn because they have some school pride and not a tournament to run off to next weekend

What does that say about Graham's program?  A small Class 2 school with Teams "A" and "B" competing in 7 on 7's?  Common sense tells me, there's probably a whole lot of interest and a good chance there is a lot of talent in the program, which is stating the obvious.

A and B team is usually just Varsity and JV. It is a good signs they have enough young guys their to put together a JV 7 on 7 team though

Congratulations to the Tazewell softball, Lebanon baseball, and Marion girls tennis teams on your well-earned state championships. You represented SWVA well and made your communities proud.

Parker White (Marion sophomore) defended her state singles title. Team won and was runner up in doubles (Maddie Austin also sophomore). Swva represented well in the spring championships

Based on yesterday's results, I'm thinking Central's baseball team may be the 2nd best in the region, but they must face Battle in the semis.

Both 3 seeds won yesterday which is surprising. Marion has beaten VA High once already this year so there is a chance they could do it again

  15. Can someone please explain to me how Twin Valley at 0-16 made the region tournament?! There are 17 teams in 1D how a team that hasn’t won a game in baseball basketball or football makes the region tournament! I do disagree that there are to many teams in the tournament it’s the same as every other sport I’m okay with that
