Martinsville and Coach Jeff Adkins part ways.
RadCat replied to Real Sasquatch's topic in SWVA Basketball
I will never forget him against Radford at RU. He ripped his coat off and slammed it down and then fell down. I thought he was a decent coach. Martinsville may regret this move depending on what they do. -
Radford vs J. Marshall at 1pm, Auburn at 6:30
RadCat replied to GilesBandanaMan's topic in SWVA Basketball
I agree. when QMR came through Radford, I thought he should be getting more looks from a higher level but getting to watch some of these guys up close, there is a world of difference. Can't say enough about how talented that JM team is. -
Radford vs J. Marshall at 1pm, Auburn at 6:30
RadCat replied to GilesBandanaMan's topic in SWVA Basketball
The Marshall people seem to have no issue with it and frankly I don't know how it changes. on the court after the game, Cormany told the VHSL head, that something needs to change and the VHSL person immediately walked away without responding. -
yes, and it never got called against Radford either.

Class 2 Scores from Around the State and 2/25-2/26/2022
RadCat replied to GilesBandanaMan's topic in SWVA Basketball
and Radford didn't have their leading scorer. River didn't substitute and it caught up to them. They will be rested and motivated for Region D opponent. JR starting 5 is really really good. -
Mac McClungs VHSL Scoring Record Broken
RadCat replied to GilesBandanaMan's topic in SWVA Basketball
I had interesting conversation with someone that said that the scoring title should actually belong to Caleb Tanner. he had to play against Radford 17 times. he averaged over 35/game normally and only 17 points/game against radford. That's at least another 221 points that Caleb missed out on because he had to play a Cormany defense. -
Alleghany would probably win the mountain side. I will be surprised but not shocked if they beat James River.
-
oh, okay, that makes it a little more okay. I wish they would publish brackets in advance so people could see what is going on instead of waiting until the day before. Thank you for the clarification!

Agree, and with the way they are creating the sub-regions for the Region C tourney makes no sense. There has to be a better way. They put the top 5 or 6 teams on one side and the other side has terrible teams. Region C will not be sending they best two teams to the state tourney which is dumb.

Landen Clark took the last shot. Radford is loaded with sophomores. only one senior is a major contributor. top three in most categories are sophomores. Radford needs to develop better post play but yes they should be good the next two years. Radford was up 10 late in the third qtr. Their inexperience showed as poor shot selection let Glenvar back in the game.

Radford vs James River on NFHS Feb 2 at 7:00pm
RadCat replied to GilesBandanaMan's topic in SWVA Basketball
A Radford win puts them in the driver seat for Three Rivers. Radford didn't play well against Glenvar on Monday. James River has to be hyped for this game. Of course everybody brings their "A" game for Radford. I expect a good one. -
I think you hit it perfectly for 2C. Radford's core is sophomores mostly with one senior having an impact. They have some ups and downs because of that youth but they have tons of talent and the defense that they bring is strong and will only get better. even if they can beat JR in the second game, they probably will see them in the regional and beating a third time would be next to impossible. JR has tons of talent and experience. I expect them to get at least one against Radford this year. Floyd is talented too. They just don't play defense hard enough. I haven't seen Mville or the others yet to have an opinion on them.

Perfect. Thank you!

I don't see anything there but the Va High teams schedule. nothing about the other games that are going on.
-
Is there a published schedule of the basketball games that are happening at Va High next weekend? The BVPS.org has the two games for Va High but none of the other games and I couldn't find a published schedule. TIA
-
The stats from Radford line up closer to this. Ashworth at 36 rushing. I believe if the Roanoke Times is at the ball game, which they were, they keep their own stats. They publish what they are sent if they do not attend the game.
-
Its going to be close if they get to play. Any more positive cases and I think Radford will have to cancel.

Baylor's mouth and attitude will be the things that might keep him from D1. Everything else is there. He isn't naturally a QB but he is our best choice at QB. He doesn't have the ability to find open receivers, at least so far. If he can figure that out the Radford Offense will be tough to contend with. Wesley-Brubeck hears from the Dr this week if he will be released which gives an added weapon on offense and experience on defense.
-
I forgot about the twins but shouldn't have from JV game a few years ago. They were really good.
-
I don't think Wesley-Brubeck will be back for this game but I heard he was released by the Dr. He is a big piece that Radford needs on both sides of the ball. I would say Radford wins for sure if he plays. I think the only way GW wins is by passing the ball. Radford is really young but has lots of talent in that sophomore class. I expect a close game with either team with a chance to win.

Radford just got tested this morning so the earlier statement from yesterday that 3 were positive was premature although may turn out to be the final number. The kids were told 1 positive on the team originally with was from associations on the golf team. with Radford having a vax rate of less than 50% I would be surprised it was only 7 unvaccinated. I personally know of 4 that didn't have it. Radford starts back today for those that test negative.

haha, my original post must have been deleted. it is volunteers that have done it for years. I don't think the AD has ever stepped on the field.

Radford hires Crist from VA High to be their next HC
RadCat replied to SW_VA_boy's topic in SWVA Football
Yes, the Junior coaches have been the same for a while and have done well. I heard this year it didn't go as well. You nailed the Senior league and even though he coached a championship win vs Narrows when this years high school seniors were playing, the assistants made the calls on offense and defense. There is talent there and I hope we can get some changes made. -
Radford hires Crist from VA High to be their next HC
RadCat replied to SW_VA_boy's topic in SWVA Football
I don't know about being "very" happy with the hire. He seemed like the best candidate of the ones that were being interviewed. It is yet to be seen how it will turn out. He will be welcomed and I know the kids are waiting to interact with him (starting this week!) and interested to see how he will be. The good news is there are kids that wouldn't play for Saunders that say they will play now which is good. Crist has lots of work to do to rebuild the rec leagues. The numbers there are dwindling and HC of the senior rec team is not knowledgeable so kids don't develop and get discouraged and don't play at the next level. The rec leaders have been made aware but choose to not make any changes. I think Saunders tried to be engaged in the rec programs but wasn't able to have much if any influence. The basketball culture does interfere with football. It's not intentional but it does. Some of that was due to negative perception of Saunders so Crist will have a chance to change that. All of the hires haven't been great, for example a change at AD could be a huge upgrade. -
I was surprised it took this long to hit the news. He told the kids in the locker room after the Appo game. As for timing, last year was supposed to be the state championship year but with the loss of 2 all-state and 2 all-region players to injuries, there just wasn't enough depth. They exceeded expectations the year before that. That group had dominated all through rec and JV. This senior class was pretty special but had several kids who decided not to play. I'm sure he wanted to see what he could do with and for them. Next year the team will have talent but will be really young. Matthew is a really good person and has been coaching for 30 years so I'm sure he has had plenty. Sometimes you just need a break. I'm concerned about who they get to replace him. I personally don't have much faith in the Radford AD.
