Season gets going more tonight with Gate City playing Tennessee High, Northwood at Marion, Lebanon at Honaker, Castlewood at Patrick Henry, Tazewell at Abingdon, and Richlands at Mountain Mission. TN High looks really improved from last year.

I just wish the papers would put player stats in the paper like they used to. They were broken down by district and it was neat to see who was scoring the most from each district. And put the district standings in the paper. They can put every single score and stat from every pro league in the world, but try to find who is leading the black diamond district or cumberland district in scoring. Or just try to find any district's standings. It is like it's some huge secret that only the ADs at the schools are allowed to know. And they wonder why nobody gets the paper anymore.

If Lee is anything like they have been in the past, they can't play defense without fouling. Their last coach seemed to encourage fouling to slow the game and turn it into a foul shooting contest. Games took nearly 2 hours because of all the fouling, it was unbearable to watch. Maybe that mentality has hung around.

Lebanon was scoring at will in the paint. Their big guy couldn't do much against Abingdon, but showed he is a force to be reckoned with against Class 1 schools. Honaker seemed out of sorts like they weren't sure how they wanted to play. They did play much better against Abingdon when Abingdon took the starters out and they started running and pushing the ball. Lebanon looked like the most experienced team of the 3. Abingdon has a long way to go if they are going to compete in Class 3. Too many turnovers and poor decision making.

Lebanon and Honaker scrimmaged last night. Lebanon beat them handily. Honaker had no answer for Lebanon's big guy.

Mac McClung was held back. He turned 19 January of his senior year. It obviously helps some boys tremendously. You see huge changes in some boys from 17 to 18 to 19.

I don't think kids are more emotional or resistant to tough coaching. I think a lot of coaches take high school ball way too seriously and ruin it for the kids. High school sports are supposed to be about good fun competition.

If Va High can find some defense they will be tough. That Jones at QB and the receiver #80 are going to put on a show every week. They could have easily beat GC last night except Jones didn't play after halftime.

There is no basketball culture in Abingdon.

Radford didn't play Northside, they beat Botetourt by about 30 though. Union spends their summers playing travel ball down south so they are used to playing big time athletes, Radford won't have anyone better than guys they have faced in the past. Just depends on if they can guard people without fouling, and if Cusano or Rasnick can get hot from outside. I'm not sure if Radford has the size to handle Union in the paint, they are one of the best offensive rebounding teams you will find.

Hayes had the ball MULTIPLE times throughout the game, and chose not to go at Dean. Sorry it doesn't fit your narrative, but for someone you say has a higher ceiling than McAmis, he chose not to show it last night.

Tell me what I missed then. Watched the whole game and it was McAmis with 26 of his teams 45 pts. And Dean with 32 of his teams 46 points. Nobody else wanted the ball for Wise. Same for GC.

All that talent everyone said Wise has? The top scorer other than McAmis was Allison with 6 pts off two 3 pointers, and Hayes with 5pts. The game was basically Dean vs McAmis with Dean winning by one. smh

Why you think Central is the most talented? What kind of numbers are there 3-7 guys putting up? I say if you took the top two players off each team and made 3-7 go at it. GC, Abingdon, Union, and Lee would all beat Wise.

I hate to break this to you, but he doesn't have that much talent around him. Top to bottom, GC, Abingdon, Union, and Lee are all better than Wise.

Players today shoot from places on the court that would have got you sent straight to the bench back in the 80s and 90s, even if you made it.
