That would have been the most logical solution but I’d say Virginia wouldn’t agree on a site because of how much longer Graham would have to be on a bus than V High would
Is Lebanon that much further from Bluefield compared from Lebanon to Bristol?
I'm going to say 1-1 I'm throwing out the 1st game that's when VA High had Ethan Carpenter, this is a different VA High team now and now more beatable than before
I think VH is 2 and 1 over Graham this year. VH played without Carpenter the last 2 games vs Graham if im not mistaken was 13 point loss and a 6 point win.
More of the blame should be placed on opponents or all the other teams. I think other Class 2 teams, ADs, admins should put more pressure on VHSL. I think Coach Cormany was wrong for having us play JM for the title game last year. We should have set it out.
The best team in the region in my opinion is Gretna. They got off to a slow start this year but have everybody back from last years team. They'll be a tough out. Martinsville is a very scrappy bunch, a lot of kids in the 6'1" to 6' 3" range, that play very hard on the defensive end of the court. Offensively they do it by committee, usually a different leading scorer every game. Radford-Martinsville and Chatham- Gretna should be two good games Thursday.
Pdfan, how is the new coach in Bulldog land? Is he popular with the fans? Is he changing or trending the culture back to old form? Scary stuff if that happens. Record turnaround speaks for itself
Floyd was definitely not the team to beat in 2C. They went to the wire twice with a very mediocre Radford team. they only one the so-called TRD Tourney because the best Carroll player got hurt right before the half. I imagine they got out out coached again.
Martinsville and Floyd I thought were the 2 best in C. Floyd was good. Martinsville is good. We got a history of playing a great game against Martinsville in recent yrs. I think they take us, but under 10 pts. Don't know about Chatham. We are young. Bulldogs have a bunch of seniors. Matchup favors Dogs this yr
I want to know why Glenvar is 6th. Shouldn't Glenvar be 2nd behind Radford according to one guy on this board? I said this on the other board. The best team we played all year was Graham. I don't care what Calpreps says.
I don't know the ins and outs of the old southwest or who was in it but I think when the Highlands was created and Lee came out swinging, it made for some enemies quick. At that time, Gate City was controlling the district/region and weren't accustomed to losing so I'm sure the two fan bases were not receptive of one another. Miss those kind of rivalries and crowds. You knew there was a game on Friday, lights were out in town(s) but the stadium lights were on.
In the late 80s when Lee was formed, they were good, very good. So was Gate City, but Gate City wasn't controlling the SWD or Region. Graham was. I know because I played against them twice in 1989. They won the Region in 89, 90, 93, 95. Lee started to fall off in 96. In 91 and 92 Radford won the region.
Great show of fan support by Graham. My Bobcats finally did it. What's it been, 30 or 31 years since beating Graham? Happy for our kids. Going to be tough to beat Riverheads. We got a shot though. For the 2 Gmen fans I met today, if you are on here, I enjoyed the beers and conversation. Best of luck to Graham next year, but I don't think you will need it with all that youth.
I feel like Graham and Radford are miles faster than Riverheads and Poquoson.
No offense, but I think you are underestimating Poquoson. I know there's the thought about Poquoson as a bunch of slow white dudes that can't run, or that's the perception. At Poquoson, they are big into Olympic type sports. Kids down there are just all around athletes. Watch them on defense against Lafayette or King William and how fast they close. Poquoson has not just average, but very good overall team speed. They have lots of track guys on their team. My wife is from Poqouson and lived some in Nottoway, so I keep up with those 2.
Perception of Poquoson is good football players and not very athletic. It's almost the exact opposite. They have far more athletes than truly good football players. Lots of their kids come from Langley Air Force Base and NASA kids whose parents have traveled. Langley and NASA border Poquoson. They've been exposed to Olympic type sports, training, distance running with their military parents etc.
The Reg D winner needs a strong AD to make the case to the VHSL to ensure it gets moved in case the powers that be at Radford try to keep it at Radford. I hope the people at Radford don't put up an argument and move the game. The Glenvar game should not be played at Radford.
If you are a Reg D team coming to Radford and Radford didn't move it, I would do the same. Get there early and set on home side. Warning to all Region D fans, if played at Radford, the power Karen's will be there at the gate trying to direct you to the non home side. Legally, they can't do that, but they will try to intimidate you. They can't stop you from setting on Radford side.
Coach Crist has done a pretty good job with Clark. Lots of knocks on Crist's on the field and game day knowledge but Clark has grown not just on the field but off the field. He's matured a bit and this is the report from teachers in the classroom to fellow players to assistant coaches. Crist has been a huge part of that. Clark's got a lot of talent and if he keeps his head on straight, then he's got a good future. He's definitely matured over the past year emotionally.
This is what happens when you hire someone with Parkinsons (like me) to do a job requiring a steady hand and good balance. Maybe next year, Tazewell will hire a blind man to paint the endzones.
I didn't expect us to be this good. We knew the QB was really good, but didn't think the O and D lines would play like they like they have. Appo will be difficult to beat like always.
Home field advantage but may need to relocate for semis, right? I wasn’t sure if they addressed visitor seating yet? @Fairlawncat
Last I heard was at Radford for the Regionals-first 3 games. The state semis at Christiansburg if Cburg is eliminated before the Region Title, otherwise Blacksburg High, but still nothing official.
Radford clinches home field for state semis if the Bobcats win Region C. The Bobcats are done for reg season and are 10-0. The games played this coming Friday will not allow Union to overcome Radford in power ranking.

22 is a lot of points if that's his average especially considering how many steals he gets on defense and the ball pressure he can apply.
