  1. May just be what it is, just a big rumor. Cousin Claude works over in Kudzu County and told us that someone mentioned that a SWD Football Coach was thinking about resigning. We’re not going to start or spread any rumors by mentioning a name or school, however, has anyone else heard such a story? Uncle Percy always says, “A rumor is just like a Poison Ivy Rash, if you scratch it, it keeps spreading”. For the unknowing, Kudzu County is Buchanan County. From the top of Shortt’s Gap to the Kentucky State Line, Kudzu is everywhere.
  2. Why would he want to go to Ellen & Helen? Has 3 options, Bluefield U., Concord, Bluefield State, in his backyard plus UVA-Wise. Could even try a walk on at ETSU. Ellen & Helen, always been tooooo snobbish, ever hear of a place called “Abington” and now getting too politically correct according to some grads.
  3. After 6 games (2-4) Stiltner has resigned. LWC, here’s a chance for you to apply for a job for next season.
  4. Why didn’t you apply? Sounds like you think you know more than Tom Rife.
  5. LWC sounds just like several of the experts on the football forum. One question for you LWC, “If you know so much about basketball, why didn’t the School Board hire you”?
  6. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if it happens. However, Cousin Claude was telling us about this a few weeks ago and he lives 3 counties away from The Hokiebird7. You remember that old story about where there’s smoke.
  7. Grundy tried to scheduled closer schools, but no luck Mayor.
  8. Grundy’s schedule next 2 years: 1-A. Honaker, Hurley, Patrick Henry, Twin Valley (if they don’t flub it again) 2-A. Central-Wise, Marion, Ridgeview, Tazewell, Va High 3-A. Carroll County Hurley and Twin Valley are the only district games. Anyone have a fiddle for sale for RichlandsAlum?
  9. You made a very rude comment about the Grundy coaches. Then again, being obnoxious, rude, and arrogant are common traits by certain schools and people along I-81 from Abingdon to Salem. This has been observed and noticed for years, especially in Wythe County and Washington County. Some of the comments made by people from Rural Retreat and Chilhowie this fall when a certain school requested to join the Hogoheegee were just plain rude and uncalled for. I can think of a few better terms to describe you and this, however, if I use them Mr. G-Man would probably kick my “ar$e” off here and I couldn’t follow Cousin Liam.
  10. Well since you know so much football and are such a good judge of coaches and players, I have one simple, easy question. Why are you not the Head Coach at George Wythe? I guess if you were the Head Coach, George Wythe would be going for their seventh consecutive State Football Championship instead of Riverheads. Well, is that so?
  11. As of now, Honaker @ Grundy, 7:00 Friday.
  12. E.C. Glass 26. Liberty Christian 14 Patrick Henry-Roanoke 17. Salem 7
  13. No. Only thing that’s going to end it is strict and financial penalties that must be strictly enforced. Also, may have to fire a few Principals, ADs, Coaches, and maybe add a Superintendent or two to that.
  14. Cousin Delbert said he thought he saw Southbound in Cucumber, WV, but then Cousin Delbert swears he once saw ET at the Crow’s Nest on Three Forks.
  15. Should be Winter and Spring District Tournament not competition.
  16. You want to put a stop to it, put a monetary clause for forfeitures into a signed contract. If you lose a home game, forfeiture fee - $4000. Lose an away game, forfeiture fee - $2000. If you can find a replacement game for a forfeit, you would still receive a forfeiture fee of $1000. This Friday, Giles receives $2000, 11-4 George Wythe receives $4000. If forfeiture fees are not paid (District & Non-District), then none of that school’s teams can compete in winter and spring district competitions thus eliminating them from Regional and State competition. Harsh, NO, means that ADs and Coaches are going to have to work harder to field a team, especially in the offseason.
  17. Did Auburn forfeit their last 2 games?
  18. 1996, afraid to play Grundy @ Grundy in State Semis. You people should have heard some of the lame excuses they used in getting the VHSL to move the game. Played at Tazewell. Field conditions, they were better at Grundy with a lot less wind. You want some Legends? How about these gentlemen, Cummins, Riggs, Fry, Joyce (Andrew Lewis) and probably one of Mr. Researcher’s favorites, Gainer (Big Creek & Bluefield, WV). White, not on my list. Uncle Percy By the way, Joyce wasn’t afraid to come to Grundy. State powerhouse Jefferson Sr., E.C. Glass, William Fleming, and Patrick Henry-Roanoke were not afraid to come to Vansant Ballpark or County Stadium to play. “Legend” White was.
  19. Uh. Grundy wasn’t at full strength either when they played George Wythe.
  20. We knew. Have you seen him play? He could easily start for most teams around here and that includes the Mtn 7.
