  1. Lol. You want me to be nice, or honest?
  2. Not expecting much from James Monroe this year I hate to say. Talent just ain't there but what's worse is the coaching is even more sadly lacking. The team has steadily declined since the return of Don Jackson in 2008, and I hate to say alot of people aren't too surprised. Going .500 would almost be a loftly goal given last year's team's all-time worst finish of 2-8. What little talent was on the team was lost to graduation, and there didn't appear to be any freshmen that really stood out. Stranger things have happened, but making the post-season wouldn't be a surprise, it'd be more near to a miracle season.
  3. How dare Hank Villiams Jr. be inscolent to zee Furher!!!
  4. Simply put, if we've ever had a less prepared team than this year's, I can't remember it. They've had ''off years'' before, but not like this, and unfortunatly it goes back to last year. I kind of saw this coming in the preseason when Pocahontas County beat them without mercy. There's just a lack of mental and even physical toughness that are sadly lacking as of late. I'm about ready to start the Chris Booth for JM head coach campaign cause this is horrindous. I mean losing to Summers @ home, and 54-20 @ home to a mediocre Oak Hill team, C-MON MAN!!! As if that ain't good enough, 4 of the 5 remaining opponents beat them by at least 3+ scores each last year, and the other, Shady, argueably has their best team in a decade. Yeah, this should be interesting!
  5. Awh, poor wittle Micky, coach Weid says he'll kiss the boo boo and make it ALL BETTER!
  6. Quite frankly I don't know why more teams don't put big guys in the backfield from time to time, even at college and pro levels. Few things or more demoralizing then being unable to stop a running attack, especially from a 250+ lb back. Ask opponents of the 85 bears about this, of course, the fridge was signifigantly bigger that that! It makes teams respect the run and can open up things downfield if u have anything of a passing attack.
  7. After seeing the video of the South Charleston-Hurricane game, this is the bottom line, WHEN YOUR TEAM CLEARS THE BENCH AND THE COPS HAVE TO BREAK UP THE FIGHT, YOU'RE FREAKING WRONG!!! Since both teams participated, game should've been forfieted by both sides, would've sent a strong message.

  9. Wasn't at the game, but talked with one of the freshamn playing for JM. The Mavs tore them up pretty good, he said between the Varsity and JV it was about 48-0, the Varsity accounted for probably 35 points, scoring every time the had possesion. He said the defense probably allowed a combined 35 yds rushing. Good news going into the season in 1 week.
  10. Somewhere, Coach George Allen of the 1970's Redskins is laughing. This sounds like when Don Shula hired extra security for the Dolphin's Super Bowl practice do to fear The Allen would have moles watching and reporting everything to saw. Given Allen's history, he probably had good reason to be afraid, Bill Bellichek had nothing on that guy. I can see it now, Graham-gate or Princeton-gate. Seriously doubt anything like that's going on, but if you wanted to, you could easily camp out on East river Mnt and see everything. CRAP, I LET THAT GET OUT! Nothing like a little fun, but man, I can't wait for the season to actually start.
  11. How many came out for practice?
  12. In other words, the single wing is coming to Bluefield?, That could be interesting. What'll be more interesting if they call it something like "The Wild Beaver". Sorry, I couldn't resist!
  13. The only thing that might be more worrysome than going into last year's season for us Mountaineer fans is going into this one. The wheels didn't exactly come off the wagon last year, but all was not well on the ship. Defensively we should be in pretty good shade. Other than McCoy from Pitt and Nix from UNC embarrasing them a little bit, the D didn't do real bad after the ECU meltdown, and we did have 7 new starters. The return of Fiesta Bowl co-player of the game Reed Williams won't hurt matters either. And it's a good thing the D was pretty good bacause the offense last year, well,......, yeah. The major concern there was, they had a veteran QB and O-line, and still heavily struggled. They bailed out the defense against UNC, but most of the time, it was working the other way around last year. I think even if they hadn't changed coaches and systems the losses of Owen Shmidt and Steve Slaton would've been felt and were as least in part to blame for the lack of production. The good news for Jarret Brown is the return of some real good WR's. The ? is the running game, the line has to get some blocking for Devine and the other RBs or we'll definetly struggle again. The big question is this: Was 2008 the first step on the road back to mediocrety, or a year with growing pains and a stepping stone back to championship contension. My hope is the latter is true. What I do feel for certain is that this is a crucial year for the Bill Stewart era, and whether it'll be remembered as a stroke a genisand good timing, or a bad marriage on the rebound.
  14. Somehow this ignorant debate come up every year. Overall I like JM's scedule, would've liked to see Giles and Princeton on there, but there's 2010 I suppose. If the North Cross addition is someone's idea of a cupcake, they really need to look at there schedule, this isn't a bad team. The big thing a like is the longest Reg. season road trip is Welch. In this economy, if Gas & Diesel go back around $4.00/Gallon +, the Mavs might be sittin pretty while other team have to do mid-season fundraisers to go to next week's game. Hate to say it but I can definetly see that kind of thing happening. As far as how we'll do it's a big ? The only returning starter at skill positions is the QB and TE, defense is a little better, I think we only have to replace and ILB and FS. The good thing is almost all the interior lines are returning, a big improvement over last year when everyone inside was green.
  15. Pretty sure this was the first time James Monroe beat Bluefield in boys basketball.
  16. Haven't seen our schedule yet, but I'd love to see James Monroe play them. In recent years this would've been a pretty competitive series
  17. Unfortunatly, this doesn't even come close to shocking me.
  18. It's a small miracle that no one was hurt or killed, the pictures say it all. Hinton's got a building that they're getting ready to tear down for the same reason. I've said for years that the abandoned buildings were an eyesore at best, maybe this will get some people off their butts and get them destroyed, but probably not.

  20. Guess James Monroe isn't playing them this year after all.
  21. What's next, banning the spread or single wing because some teams "can't" adjust to it? There was a time not that long ago that 3 and 4 wide receiver formations were considered gimmicks too, not everyone uses them at least some. This kind a regulatory B.S. is from the same people who brought us penalties for "running up" the score. With the government finding more and more things to regulate everyday, its sad to see H.S. sports officials following suit, but not surprising.
  22. I hope people are paying attention to this situation and not being fooled by the press. This is a matchbox in a room full of gunpowder and it's something the new President will have to deal with. As per typical, we've got a terrorist organization in Hamas putting it's own people in harm's way to make them look like the victims of the big bad Israeli's. Israel's being crucified in the press for attacking schools and hospitals where rockets are being fired from. Hamas is like a gunman with a baby strapped to their chest, breaking into your home and firing on your family. Painfull as it may be, you're going to have to shoot back at this guy to protect yourself and loved ones, this is exactly the situation Israel's in. Those of us who've studied what the Bible has to say on this know that 1 major reason the U.S. has been blessed like never before in the last 60 years is our support of the Israelis. When I hear about Pres. Bush not "allowing" them to attack Iran last year, I get concerned. In case anyone didn't notice, 2008 wasn't exactly a banner year for this country. God-willing some of the concerns about Obama not supporting Isreal are not true, unfortunatly, the answer to that question may have to come sooner than later.
  23. Happy for the kid, I think they made an excellent choice giving him the award, he was the best H.S. QB I've seen in a long team. Anyone know where he may go to college? Please, for his sake, don't say Concord.
  24. Well, not many people saw the Mavericks playing at this point, not even myself. This was not an easy game last year in Lindside, and there's certainly no reason to believe this will be any easier. We ended their season last year, and they very nearly ended ours, soI'd say there's pretty close to a 0% chance of either team "looking ahead" in this game. I really expected our defense to be a week spot this year, but so far, after week 2, Bluefield was the only game the D really struggled, and we prabably won't see an air attack like that the rest of the playoffs. Last year we couldn't pass at all and it really hurt us against them, if we need to throw this week, we should be a little better at it. Bottom line in the game was JM won the game with defense and special teams, just like we've won most of our games this year. I think this game will be alot like last year, the team that makes the 1 or 2 critical mistakes will lose, the other, hopefully James Monroe will play for it all in Wheeling.
