Might want to get there early. I have no clue what kind of crowd they normally get, but they only have seats on one side.

I don't think Reed is the answer, as far as head coach, but he needs to be on the sideline. I don't see GC winning a state title "soon", but to think they won't win another one is ridiculous. I also don't see the turnaround taking as long as most would like to think. Depending on the hire....of course.

GS would be a great coach at GC, but I can't see Scott County hiring him. If there's trash, he'll expose it. As far as the fans, I think we'd love him. He'd also get things fixed that should've been fixed years ago. Like a PA system that doesn't cut out, a scoreboard that you can actually read, and get rid of the ugly *** gray britches!

Now we get to worry about them getting something right for a change. That scares me worse.

Turner will always get my vote. I'll never forget watching them pull into GC one night about 15 minutes before kickoff. They came in and kicked our hind ends, went straight back to the bus and left.

Last "upgrade" to the scoreboard, they just painted a piece of metal and put a new "face" on it instead of replacing the thing. Also if you guys love Akers so much, offer him a job in January. Sounds like schools should be lined up for him.

You don't have to be "perfect" to realize he's in over his head. That's been evident since he's been there. I'm not sure how many hours he puts in, but he could be there 24/7 and it wouldn't matter. It's wonderful that you're ok with them being mediocre, but folks that have supported them decade after decade are not ok with it. When you settle for mediocrity, this is what you end up with and I'm afraid a lot of folks have "settled". You may have a son on the team. If so, why wouldn't you want the best coach and opportunity for them? The money brought in during football season also helps sports all year long. When you go from 5,000 for each home game to less than 1,000, those numbers add up. There's a lot more to it than just wins and losses. As far as the "numbers and talent" not being there, GC has usually averaged mid-upper 40's each year. We didn't always have the best talent during the Colobro years, but he got every bit of effort and talent that he could get out of each player. There was no "voodoo" then. He was just a helluva football coach with outstanding assistants. I don't mean anything I've said to sound offensive in any way, but I've followed this program for more than 40 years and I've traveled thousands of miles to support the kids. It's heart breaking for me to see what's happened to the entire program.

There's been a lot of water flow under the bridge since 1988, but I'm thinking they had a article about Jonesville and Coach Cooke in Sports lllustrated following that season.

This could actually turn into pretty good timing. With both schools closing, there should be plenty of coaches looking for work. Then again I might just be looking through a pinhole for some sunlight...lol

I've had a few people tell me the same thing about their kids. Not all of them play sports. They'd just rather they go to GC than travel to the airport every day.

With North and South closing, we may get partial help then. This problem isn't just happening at GC. It's going to be a problem everywhere before it's over. Dobyns-Bennett has 2300 kids and they're going through the same mess. I don't see that many "great" coaches out there available to be honest.

Been seeing a lot of chatter about Akers on Facebook. To say the natives are restless is an understatement.

They're now Virginia cars at DB. The kids are giving effort. It's not on the kids. It starts at the top and works its way down. This is not a "down cycle" type of deal. THAT'S the frustrating part.

It's a shame that the "powers" have let this happen to this program. It's hard to believe we were in the playoffs 2 years ago. It feels more like 15.
