  1. [ QUOTE ] Heck...Mudfork and Falls Mills don't have a mayor why whould Pocahontas?[ QUOTE ] As mayor of East End of Mudfork, I resent that comment.
  2. Lot's of horses showing up for the district race.
  3. I had an priority commitment. Besides, the view on the radio is better than the one from the visitors side. When you look over at the Richlands sideline, you can only see the players from the waist up. If these games continue to be this exciting, I'm sure there will be support from other parts of the county for visitor's side up grades.
  4. Thanks to those of our community across the line. Do yall smell blood in the water?
  5. No knocks on Richlands. Mance said a mouthful in the BDT when he stated that Graham had lost to some good teams. The preparation was tough for four weeks now, but the G-Men made lemonade out of lemons tonight. Just another step in building a good season for the G-Men. Congratulations to the players and hat's off to the staff for having them prepared. One thing that's always remembered as much as a streak is who broke it.
  6. I'll say it again. Graham starts 1-4, only to finish strong and go 6-4. Even if they had held onto the ball, they may not have won these first two, but if they could have played mistake free football, we all might have a different attitude right now.
  7. "We Believe" is Bluefield's, always has been, always will be. We don't want it. Seeing that in Cardinal Red and Gold would be like seeing a logo that had a beaver holding a G Star.
  8. Flying in the game ball was awesome. Coolest thing ever. Ten thousand people gained alot of respect for those jumpers. To be as far off as they were, and land on the 50,,,that was incredible. But it was an omen for the G-Men. If you recall the jumper with the Graham flag stumbled when he landed and Graham lost. As far as streaks and trophies. Just ask the players in tonights game which game mattered most. The answer should be the one before them tonight. If Graham lost tonight, they wouldn't feel any better knowing they had won two of the last four.
  9. Lesson to be learned,.,.,.see how much playing each other twice in a season screwed things up. Now history, tradition, streaks, my cholesterol, etc., etc. and everything else is out of kilter.
  10. Oh look now, they're fighting. Is everybody happy now.
  11. Graham - 22 Bluefield - 21 But only if Graham punishes them physically every play. If Graham busts their tails with physical play every down they can win. If Graham gets shook by a few big plays they loose. Graham's seniors need to work hard to build confidence in the younger players around them, because Bluefield is sure going to try to shake them.
  12. It's funny how everybody sees something a little different. Makes it obvious why none of us are getting paid to do this.
  13. [ ..hopefully, they will get some of their linemen healthy this week and be at full strength next week against Gate City...... [/ QUOTE ] Oh no, you didn't say that. The Richlands defense is very strong. But right now Richlands reminds me of Graham in 2003. Graham had two great years in '01 and '02 and went into '03 with high hopes. Alot of talent was gone from the '01 and '02 squads, and the '03 season rode on the back of some Bradshaw guy. Richlands folk will remember that year well as he put on a show to win a close one there. Anyway, Graham made it to the state semi-final in '03, losing to Greta who had the best high school offense I've ever seen. Things came together for them when they developed some other offensive weapons. Fuller is the real deal indeed, and Richlands showed some of what they must do when they got him out of the backfield. The line didn't impress me. You want him to have the ball somewhere out in front of your line, not behind it. Some more offensive weapons need developed. Fuller alone will carry you to some success, but not to the success you're used to. You should be thrilled with the defense. It's easier to win 14-10 every week than it is to win 45-38. For now the title is yours to defend. Best of luck. If Graham can't win it, I hope you can.
  14. First off, I won't say anything about Richlands until someone from down there posts first. Maybe that will keep the peace. I saw much more from Graham than I expected. Extremely physical and hardnosed. The departure of Cole may have saved a quarterback controversy at Graham. Marrs appeared to be much more than the guy who is going to hand the ball to TB. It's going to be interesting to see him grow with experience and confidence. Graham may not have many explosive atheletes, but they've got some darn good plain ole football players. I don't know what to think of Bluefield. They seem to be short on the typical quick speedsters you expect (Powell, Perdue,.,.,etc. types). Brooks is a definate factor, but with his seemingly physical style, you'd expect him in cardinal red and gold. Much of what Bluefield does this year may well depend on him. Ponder looks like he can make a difference, but he has to have the ball. Quarterback situation looks tough there. I wouldn't want to be in Simon's shoes. I'll just say that I hope McClanahan and Cole play to their fullest potential and that a clear frontrunner emerges. Prior to today, I thought the Beavers would handle the G-Men easily, but now I feel like next week might be a great game with a happy ending,.,.,west of Wal-Mart anyway.
  15. I'd have to say Graham is "OK". Saw something much better than I expected, and Lane was out by the time I got there. Marrs was very sharp.
  16. Can anybody throw up a quick schedule for today? I know it's on here somewhere, but I'm lazy.
  17. I know three of those guys. Tons of respect for the Louthans. His dad had the chance to wear me out twice. Once when I locked him out of a 7th. grade science class, and another when we were getting ready to say the prayer before a middle school game at Tazewell. He dropped to a knee in front of me, and I conked his head with my helmet as I took it off. He is on my top 10 list of all time humans.
  18. Back on the Indians. Who is on the coaching staff there this year?
  19. Once the prison is finished, and the crowds don't move in; once the Big Branch road is finished, and Abbs Valley and Boissevain are 20 minutes from GHS,,maybe then the excuses will end?
  20. "Responsible" would indeed be a better term. It implies accountablity. But, I'm the only one expected to understand that, every December at tax time. Certainly not the county the rest of the year when free roaming dogs are ravaging my farm. I've GOT to stop now.
  21. Coaching supplements should be directly related to the number of kids on the team. If there are twice as many kids out at Richlands as at Graham, I don't have a problem with them having more coaches than Graham. I find it hard to believe that Mance would try to leverage with a state championship. As far as Pocahontas being open or not, the rulers of Tazewell County need to be fiscally reasonable with my (and your) money. Also, how many kids from the Pocahontas area have missed opportunities for higher education by not having participated in a wider range of atheletic and educational activities?

    Just for fun

Byard, Dews, Gregory, Latimer, and Adkins all came to mind.

    Just for fun

Since we're throwing defense in here,.,.,. The G-Men DL - Tony Young DL - Patton (putting him on the line because he has to be somewhere) DL - Need help here LB - Mark Cundiff LB - Lance Barbour LB - Charlie Bowman DE - Dave Lawson DE - Chris Stacy DB - Bradshaw DB - Randy Belcher DB - Brent Surface This is heavy on folks from the '89 squad, but no defense around here will ever match that one.
  24. Just for fun, take a shot at your opinions of your team's "all time squads". Granted, everyone's will reflect the players they have seen in their lifetimes. I may be off and miss some, and after some replies will probably concede some spots. Just for fun now, let's start with offense. Maybe we can do defense on another thread. Maybe this can keep the hostility down for 2 weeks. Distract you a little. The G-Men QB - H.T. Mathews HB - Graves and Bradshaw FB - Eddie Hall WR - Rusyniak and Oakes Center - Eric Robinson Guards - Denham and Williams Tackles - Workman and Mullens Punter - Eddie Neel Kicker - Rick Brown
