  1. Truth is, scrimmages are practices that we get to observe and argue about. They can be deceiving, and encouraging. To see Graham throwing the ball, encouraging. To see Richlands being pushed around (as refered by two witness I've spoken with), deceiving? We'll see. After watching Bluefield scrimmage last year, I would have never predicted the outcome of Graham/Bluefield.
  2. Maybe the entire O and D lines from Richlands were out with acid reflux or something. Didn't that happen in the scrimmage last year. Easy guys, just crack a smile.
  3. The "out of bounds" area looks tight to me. We might need some "soft wall" technology.
  4. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I have known that whippersnapper for years and am teatotally amazed how smart that feller has become but I sure didn't know he was a psyco-ologist. I have been havin some trouble with the tomaters in my garden; can you help me ary? [/ QUOTE ] You jest, but the truth of the matter is that I am a veritable genius when it comes to tomatoes. In fact, my plants this year are 7 feet tall and producing fruit the size of softballs. There is a secret to it, which I don't mind sharing. First, plant a good sized copse of boxwoods. A minimum of a couple of dozen would work, but my experience is that you want about 48. Next, let the boxwoods grow unmolested for about 75 years. Finally, remove all of the boxwoods and plant your vegetable garden in the area that the shrubs once occupied. It's just that easy. [/ QUOTE ] Why not plant them in some of the posts in this thread?
  5. Physically strong. Otherwise, we'll wait and see. If a wrestling match breaks out, we'll be good.
  6. WC and Bluefield is a toss up. Big difference between SW Va fast/S WV fast and eastern/central Virginia fast. Speed at one on one match ups is one thing, fast centers, guards, defensive tackles, etc. is another. Teams from "out there" are very fast all over. Most backs around here couldn't outrun eastern Virginia tackles, for 10 yards anyway. Back on topic. Graham starts 1-4 account of inexperience, but finishes strong to go 6-4.
  7. Color it purple, pink, or light tan. It will still count for 6 anytime Graham crosses the goal line. This issue will not divide us. Go G-Men, Beat the Beavers Go Beavers, Beat the Tornado
  8. How about both teams, both entrances?
  9. I think we should really stir the fire as far as getting an area of honor for past players for the G-Men and Beavers. It would be nice for the likes of Sims, Dudley, Isabelle, Bradshaw, etc. to grace the environment of the new Mitchell. Heck, the sacred soil is gone, it's the least that could be done. A wall of honor for great players from the community we share. Go G-Men, Beat the Beavers Go Beavers, Beat the Tornado
  10. Not worth it. Given the sizes of high schools around here, talent will come and go. Up awhile, down awhile. When it's up, enjoy it. When it's down, just wait it out. The Beavers have at least one dreadfull season in their not so distant history, and look at them, they had one of the better area teams in recent history in a few years ago. So lets all be easy, the ones you kick on the way up are the ones you kiss on the way down.
  11. futbolking has nailed it, except for maybe Mt View that low.
  12. Many good high school football players have graced the sod of Mitchell. Players from OUR town. It just happens to be a town divided by a state line, with two high schools. Grasp the uniqueness of our situation in the Bluefields. Go G-Men, beat the Beavers Go Beavers, beat the Tornado
  13. I think the big ground gainer tonight will be McCracken as Graham gets spread out and the shotgun keeper is effective against an empty middle of the field. Especially if Graham's plans on blitzing to stop the passing game.
  14. Poll didn't ask who they were pulling for, but who they thought would win. So easily things get confused in details.
  15. Sorry about your peeve and all, but as long as Richlands continues to play a regular season that is 30% single A schools, I'll continue not to like it. They may very well beat Graham and cast critics aside, but Richlands has too good a program to be playing single A schools.
  16. I vote for the headlines of the BDT's high school football articles.
  17. Year in year out Gate City is a good team. But, not this year. I've seen them play. In looking at last year, the first game is pretty much a toss out. Graham was in offensive shambles, holding tryouts a key positions. Richlands was honed. Richlands had to work for the second game since Graham had their act together. Tomorrow is interesting in that it is a real head scratcher for us know it alls that try to figure out what will happen. Graham has not looked good against what time will tell are very good football teams. Richlands has looked fantastic against some weak competition. How good have Graham's opponents been? How weak have Richlands' opponents been?
  18. An interesting stat, if available, would be how many plays Richlands has averaged per possesion while playing "everybody's homecoming" type teams. If they have been short and quick, can their offense even endure their own no huddle style during a more grueling contest, if Graham gives them one. The plow is gonna hit some rocky ground this week, we'll see what it's made of. (Give me a break, I found comas on special)
  19. I couldn't be happier for them. Hammer time!! I wonder if Louthan has hired his dad as a consultant? I think the world of that man. Good people.
  20. Mike Mullens from Graham started on the OL at UVA. I'll never forget the night he went into one of his first games and when they put his info on the screen his hometown was listed as Falls Mills, Virginia. Did us all proud.

    Rushing

You have to wonder if Richlands would have done better in Lynchburg last year if they had been more battle hardened. They were certainly a great team that beat some good teams, but being tested every week goes a long way. This year, 30 percent of their regular season is against Single A schools.

    GMS...

Not sure, but I've heard they are monsters across the line.
  23. Yeah, any coach in his right mind would have called the time out. To be trotting of the field to what they thought was halftime, some of the team even make it into the locker room, and turn around and pull it together quick enough to call the fake, that was sharp.
  24. Marrs was thinking on his toes. Talk about running the "rope a dope" when Bluefield called that time out. That was the greatest "almost" I've ever seen.
  25. I think I'm done going to scrimmages. I went to both nights of Graham's and I didn't see this coming.
