I know what it may have looked like from the stands for some of you but I can assure you that Hubbard never intentionally ran the score up on anyone. Pretty sure it's not his fault that Hurley was so freaking bad they couldn't stop a third string running back. I wish Hurley all the success in the world this year and for the kids sake I will be rooting for them in every game they play except for Friday. But for all you blowhards that finally got something good to run your mouths about... take advantage of it this year because things will soon be back to the way they have been for a long time now.
If my memory serves me correct, there was some rather "hard blowing," during the pre-season when I posted the following and you added your 2 cents worth!
Longtime sportswriter, author, columnist and radio personality, Lloyd Combs, recently suffered from a debilitating stroke. Many of you are probably familiar with his work and articles that often appear in the Bluefield, Bristol and Virginia Mountaineer newspapers. He has covered sports in the region for several decades.
Lloyd is currently undergoing rehab and the doctors are optimistic that he will be walking soon with the assistance of a cane. Presently, he does not have the use of his right arm/hand and it is expected that he will recover some use of it, however it will take longer and more extensive rehab to regain the use of his arm/hand.
Naturally, this setback has created a ton of issues for Lloyd and he is in dire need of help from his friends and family members. We have established a FUNDLY account for Lloyd and we are asking for assistance with medical billing and with his hopeful and eventual move back toward independence.
Lloyd is working hard, he is frustrated, scared and fearful of what his future may hold, he has no desire to let this defeat him, but he really needs our encouragement!
I am taking this opportunity to challenge the members of this board, to PLEASE consider a donation to his account, PLEASE consider thoughtful prayers on his behalf and if nothing else, please post a comment on his Fundly Page to encourage him to keep fighting!
Here is the link:

Once again, please consider a donation, of any size!
Keep Lloyd in your prayers!
Please Sign his Fundly Wall and offer a word or two of encouragement for him!
Lloyd has done so much over the years to help promote local teams, schools and athletes, so lets let him know that he has a support team behind him, helping him get through this very tryin
When I say area, I am not referring to all of SWVA. I am speaking of the immediate area, and referencing 1A football.
Take it with a grain of salt, but they are going to be deeper, and they will be much better. I've got more orange flowing through my veins than "Rebel Red," but, I call it like I see it. Trust me, I wouldn't be saying this if I didn't think that they hadn't turned the corner. No disrespect to Honaker or anyone else locally.
Not with the added reinforcements! This isn't wishful thinking, as I could care less. But, Hurley will be the best team in the area this coming season. I am not from Hurley and I don't have a dog in the fight.
But, trust me on this one, this is the year that the death grip is loosened and the title moves to Buchanan County.
Grundy should be in the SWD...don't give a dying rats ASS what anyone else thinks or says.
I understand completely, but this time its for good. The decrease in enrollment and the good 'ol days of Grundy being in the SWD are over unless, the entire SWD eventually loses enrollment and it becomes primarily a 1A district.
I don't see consolidation in the future, even though it should probably be on the table, that is one thing that could put em back in the SWD.
Ridgeview will be very good, but they will discover that there is a big difference in advancing in the playoffs in AA. However, I do think they will have one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the region in AA.
This is no offense to Single A at all, I've coached in both divisions, in AA the competition out East and I would argue right here in our own back yard is much better at the AA level. Sure some A schools can consistently compete with AA, my comments are in regards to a general observation regarding both A and AA.
Interesting to note, that the most successful programs have had a strong tendency to have consistency and stability with long term coaches. Schools, that have a constant coaching carousel are traditionally not as successful.
According to administration, several individuals have been recommended for the job, all recommendations have been squashed by board or members thereof. This past week, another name was brought forth, but I have not heard anything else.
Sadly enough, the D.O.E. will probably be brought into this and the front doors of HHS will get a new paint job. The reason that I say, sadly enough, is due to the fact that this was a non issue in this community and surrounding area, but thanks to a liberal agenda it will become national news.
I personally have never been fond of the Rebel Battle flag, but for this to be considered an issue only goes to prove that issues can be manufactured. This is a manufactured issue and those who manufacture it will be the victors.
I stand with HHS and the good people of Hurley who have in my opinion stood their ground and done so in a polite and cordial manner. I urge outsiders to not agitate them into action.
If there is any doubt as to how this story is being manipulated consider the recent headlines concerning the Roanoke shooting and how the White House and certain politicians are responding.
---South Carolina Shooter, a racist, kills 9 innocent people. He is photographed with a Rebel Battle Flag and the media immediately jumps on the "We have a race problem in America," bandwagon. (I am in no way suggesting that we do or do not have a race problem, just making an observation)
---- Roanoke, Virginia shooter, a racist, kills two innocent people, writes a 23 page manifesto stating his desire to cause or continue a "race war," and the White House and certain politicians, suggest that we have a "gun problem!"
The media, the White House and all politicians have a habit of controlling the narrative to fit their agenda or cause. It is a shame, that both incidents mentioned above, are treated differently, when clearly both are race issues. But, due to the fact that each incident helps serve a different agenda, based solely on the color of the perpetrator, we the people are being fed a false narrative.
Local sports writer and friend to many on this board, Lloyd Combs, is in need of our help. Lets rally around Lloyd and help him through this tough time.
Can't wait to see some try to defend this
