  1. Interesting perspective on this. Played in Mitchell Stadium as a G-Man and have watched a few games in R.R. Jones. The atmosphere at Mitchell before the City of Bluefield stepped in would compare to many college campus events, now the "fun police" have taken that away. Not to say R.R. has anything to compare to that, just Mitchell has become a place to play a game. R.R. Jones has an AWESOME view of downtown El Paso and over into Juarez Mexico - at night the place lights up and is magical. The bad part is El Paso High has become a doormat in the overall picture of West Texas Football. So, I vote with my heart (more than once) and know the proud SWVA community will jump in and do the same!
  2. Best part of the radio broadcast, a commercial! I've heard a name for a tackle and a name for a run on the same play - may I add from the same team?
  3. How about Jeff King from Pulaski County/VT/Arizona Cards?
  4. Where are you guys playing in Dayton? Would like very much to drink an adult beverage with you if time allows and the schedules line up! Let me know and then I'll drop you a line with my phone number!
  5. Kingbean - Good to see you back on the board! Would love to make it in this year, but the Pee-Wee schedule takes top billing and then we follow-up with a flag game on Sunday. G-Conman25
  6. Have to get the OH theme in the mix: 9/10 - Bellbrook vs Carroll 10/22 - Bellbrook vs Oakwood Does not hold a candle to Graham vs Beaver, but you take what you can get!
  7. 8,000 to 10,000 people every year is nothing short of awesome! Been to big games in TX and OH, but nothing like the Graham/Beaver game year in year out. I've told people about the game and they do not think I am serious. Then I pull up the BDT on-line with photos just to watch their jaw drop. Deserves a little attention from ESPN no matter the outcome!
  8. They play on turf so mud or grass stain should not be an issue. As far as stories go, in 20 years who's going to pay attention anyway. I thought everyone always played on an undefeated team and ran the winning touchdown?
  9. Got to get the young kids in the game when it becomes this bad! If not, they come back (maybe) next year and have no memory of touching the field the previous season. Play the subs and if the coach standing across the field has any class he will too. As Lou Holtz said "If you don't play the freshmen then they come back the next year as freshmen, only a year older." G-Men sound bad across the internet again tonight.
  10. Big Orange 1, Is this the same Paul Wheeler that graduated from VH in the mid 80's?
  11. Does anyone out there have an update on the PC vs Amherst game? I'm over 6,000 miles away and traveling with Uncle Sam. Last I saw it was 7-7 at half. Thanks in advance for any and all updates!

Thanks Bluefield Rules! If possible can you keep the updates posted?

    updates

Anyone out there have an update on this game? Stuck in OH and can not pick it up on the radio.
  15. Thanks Olewave and futbolking for keeping the updates rolling through the night! Long drive to watch my little cousin and this internet deal seems to work out pretty well.
  16. Olewave, it's like sitting in the stadium listening to it over the loudspeaker! Please let me know if you have additional info in the next few minutes.
  17. Thanks Olewave! Working towards the end of the game and it looks like it is all they said it would be, keep the updates coming as you get the chance.
  18. Thanks futbolking! If you get a chance later on could you post another update for those outside the local area?
  19. Anyone out there tuned into the Salem/P County game? If so how about an update on the score!
  20. I sit corrected willing to admit I have fat fingers and a small case of doing math in public. Some of those teams had no business playing in the classic (Trotwood, Northmont, and Grove City) all have a tough time in their respective conferences. For those guys to compete outside of their level of play is a stretch. Thanks for completing the 7/11 equation!
  21. Having grown up playing football in VA and now living in OH for the second time in 13 years, I must admit there is a difference in high school football. This was the 3rd year for the Herbstreit Ohio vs USA Challenge and the talent level continues to rise. Last year most of the games were played in Columubus, but this year they were played in Cincinnati. Teams from across the country came to OH to play some of the "powerhouses" and the boys from OH did pretty well (4 of 7). Can't wait until next year to see who will be visiting to take part in the event. Perhaps one of those AAA VA teams for the coast can make it up north?
  22. You win the prize, only the last name is spelled Neel. Started as a true freshman and lead the team for four years before moving on to VT. Touched the ball on almost every play (QB, Punter, Kicker, Kick Return, Punt Return, DB).
  23. This thread has been played out months before and there is no need to re-hash what has already been said. The past thread went on to talk about passing yards, rushing yards, and leadership. All of these things make a great quarterback and there have been many to pass through the SWD. Others mentioned before include Coach Sam, Matthews, Davis, Patton, and many more. IMO the best to step foot on the field at QB, taking into account the above traits, wore #10 and led the G-Men into the playoffs against the Bulldogs from Matinsville. He too played, started may I add in the DB/punter position, at VT. You guess the name from there and make the argument about a more complete two way player (two times all state) in the QB position.
  24. Kingbean - I agree it would have been nice to see the G-Men put some points on the board, but it seems RHS is for real. 5 shutouts is impressive and something to hang your hat on. The 89 G-Men started this way and look where it ended. Not certain the same outcome will be in the cards for RHS, but they seem to be well on their way.
  25. Went in to see the first GHS vs BHS game earlier this year and may be in later on in October. Probably will not get to see round 2, but I had to make it to round 1. I understand the hiding in the woods part, but I still think it's fun. I now have 73 troops reporting to me so there is not a lot of time to worry about being in the woods or anywhere else. Have a couple in the sand box and stood 17 up to go to help out with Katrina. Things here in the Buckeye are going pretty well and my oldest son has started playing soccer. Next year it will be flag football and then who knows after that. How are things over in Circle City and how's your business doing?
