Phoebus 104, Jamestown 0 already posted, but here's what happened.

56-0 Phoebus at end of 1st qtr and Phoebus had JV team in with 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter up 49-0 and the JV team ran basic plays from that point on. Jamestown was down 84 to nothing at halftime and offered to have it called at the half. The Jamestown coach refused and they played the 2nd half.

Credit to BOTH the Jamestown Head Coach for not quiting. I like his decision. Credit to Phoebus for doing everything they could to keep the score down. Had starters out with 2 minutes left in first qtr and the JV team was put in and they ran basic plays, runs off tackle, simple dives. Sometimes, these things happen.

Here's the Argument. Are the kids hurt more by the 104 pt loss in 20 years with damage to their self esteem, or.....are they better off in 20 years by raising there self esteem and resillence by not quiting? I argue...better off in the long run for not quiting.

Neither one of those situations is good for Jamestown.

What was the district situation that Jamestown was able to qualify for postseason?

GMan, can Indy beat Hoover or who would be favored? I wasn't as familiar with Hoover.  One of the fans on the WV board stated Winfield was likely as good as Indy, so I thought Winfield might be a tough out.  I hope Indy wins it.

Only team in AA that can beat Indy will be Indy. Their line play is very good and the defense is stellar not to mention how good the Price kid is. I don't believe the rest of the AA teams come close to them.

I don’t know much about the current G-Men, but yes I believe it was 1995. I believe Easley, Banks, and Byard were the 3 backs in the wishbone. I remember watching them play William Campbell if not mistaken. Score was something like 7-3?

I believe this was the state semifinals at Mitchell stadium.

One of my best friends was on that Graham team. I joke with him that I'm not sure Graham wins that title had Byard not transferred from Bluefield. I think Byard set a Graham season record for punt return TDs. Graham was damn good that year. They were down 20-0 to Bluefield and came back to win it 26-20 if I remember correctly.

I didn’t mean to imply they did but wasn’t there a knife incident where a kid got hurt and had another kid bring a gun to school? Like I said what I heard could be completely wrong on all counts.

I know about those two situations. Pikeview had an incident recently too. Princeton middle and high school also have had incidents in their histories but I'd never heard of anyone transferring because of safety concerns. That's why I called BS on the rumor. I witnessed plenty of unruly student behavior in jr. high & high school and one incident of a gun brought to school. That was 30 years ago. Most any kid that's transferring to a different local school is about PT.

Not sure of the truth to rumor but I was told any Bluefield player(s) leaving was due to safety concerns  in part to uptick in violence at the school last year. That could be totally bogus but they do have some real discipline issues at BHS.

I call bullshit on that. They don't have any more safety concerns than most any other high school

What about Frank Beamers son, think he has a shot at VT HC?

Shane needs to stay where he's at and make his mark as a head coach. He's stated publicly he has no interest in taking the VT job and he's not going to be the savior of the program because he's a Beamer. I've read his name mentioned many times on TSL and Hokie nation needs to get that through their heads and drop Shane from the conversation.

  7. Since I moved out of state earlier this year, I can tell you I won't be in attendance Friday night. I'm not even sure when, if ever, I'll get to go to another Bluefield football game again, sadly. It was a Friday night staple of mine for many years. With this Covid era of no fan attendance and/or game cancellations, it has made my transition somewhat easier to adjusting to life without going to the games.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bluefield get beat Friday with the broken amount of game/prep action they've had for the last two months. I wouldn't be surprised to learn they aren't in shape to play this game.

  8. Maybe they should just cancel the whole effing season until they can find a way to "deal with this." This is not helping anyone to have a few practices here and there for one game to be played over a period of what five weeks? Other teams cancel on you because of their covid issues. There's no post season at this rate unless WVSSAC is just fine giving out another paper champion.....

    ame to be canceled

DUBLIN, Va. (WFXR) — The Pulaski County Cougars announced Tuesday due to COVID-19 issues with the Bluefield, West Virginia Beavers, the Cougars home game Friday night against the Beavers is canceled.

Pulaski County High School athletic director Scott Vest says they were told by Bluefield officials that due to contract tracing within the Bluefield program they said they will be unable to play this Friday.

Vest told WFXR News they are actively exhausting all avenues to secure a home game for this Friday or next Friday, Sept. 17.

  10. Bluefield is not as explosive as the last few years and they throw the ball too much in my opinion. I bet Fairmont blitzes a ton and and scores early. If that happens Bluefield struggles playing from behind and they'll have a lot of trouble picking up the blitz.  I believe Fairmont wins 34-15. I hope I'm wrong

Bluefield fans are a sensitive lot.  Can’t admit that Simon has ran up the score on teams, and can’t admit that they get a bunch of friendly whistles in games against Virginia teams.

It’s not nearly as bad as Kentucky, but it’s still noticeable.  If you’re coming from VA to play Bluefield at Mitchell, you better be 7-10 points better than Bluefield if you want a victory.

UVAObserver.....butt hurt over Bluefield High School football since.....??????

I’ve read on here a few times (not this year) but in the past that Simon has ran the score up purposely. If that’s not the case, somebody can correct the misinformation.

Simon doesn't do that on purpose. People have posted that on here because they've been butthurt by a Bluefield football team in the past and Simon was an easy target.  Martinsburg isn't doing it either and their score differences are far worse.
